| Bagpipes! Posted: 6/20/2006 2:24:05 PM | its one of the best sounds...... im part scottish (about a million generations ago ) but it brings out this wild patriotic part of me.... mind you im part irish as well and somehow the tones of daniel o'donnel do not have the same effect on me.... | |

| Bagpipes! Posted: 6/20/2006 2:35:08 PM | So how long does it take for a national strain to be eradicated from someone's make up? We had this on the BNP thread, where those of us who are white and English don't consider recent "visitors" to be English. We got shouted at for saying that, yet it seems that people can go back as far as they want to hang on to previous nationalities.
OT. MY favourite sound is that of rock guitar, but a saxophone can run it close.

| Bagpipes! Posted: 6/20/2006 2:41:23 PM | Gary you are so confrontational for the sake of it
so what if i am proud of my heritage??? My grandad was scottish, my paternal grandfather is half scottish and my great grandfather was from cork
i dont care what anyone thinks, i am proud of my mixed heritage....

funny that i only read earlier how nice the forums had been lately...
what is your heritage? half leather half motorbike?
|
| Bagpipes! Posted: 6/20/2006 2:45:30 PM | It's not a question of being confrontational...it's a question of addressing the hypocrisy of some of those who post on the forums. One of whom is you, LA.
And why is that those who care about our national heritage are deemed to be morons?
|
| Bagpipes! Posted: 6/20/2006 2:47:41 PM | what is your heritage? half leather half motorbike?

|
| Bagpipes! Posted: 6/21/2006 1:33:17 AM | MSG 58 In MSG 25, there is no suggestion of a putdown towards the Scots - it was merely a reference to the way the Scots think that the bagpipes sound wonderful.

I'm not sure that a Scot is qualified to make comments on how the English feel about being English. Would he care to tell the Irish how they feel about being Irish? Of course England has a national identity, starting with the very language that you use every day of your life.
And Paul, whilst I don't like your use of strong language on the forums, you were fcuking spot on, mate.
Half leather, half motorbike? You must have seen my leather motorbike.
Anyway, as Fernilee may recall from our earlier chats, I quite like the skirl of the pipes, but they are not my favourite instrument, as noted in my MSG 52 in reply to the OT.
And, I don't have any problem with the Scots, Scottishness, or Scotland. I just get slightly annoyed by those who turn so many threads into "Let's knock the English" sessions.

Actually Gary, on this occasion you are wrong. English as it is spoken today was developed by a group of businessmen in Edinburgh to enhance trade between Scotland and England. The dropping of that "eff" looking character that sounds like an "ess" and getting rid of "thou", "thine", "doth" etc was all invented by your worst enemy
Nice try tho', Gaz | |
|
| Bagpipes! Posted: 6/21/2006 1:10:12 PM | MSG 71 Please re-read MSG 70 again, very carefully (you can mouth the words if you need to), and then explain who you consider my "worst enemy" to be.
Clue: it's in the penultimate sentence.
And you consider the amendment of a printed letter to constitute the creation of a whole language? What a strange person you are!

I suppose you're invoking the Alexander Graham Bell Theory now? LMAO
| |
|
| Bagpipes! Posted: 6/21/2006 1:17:40 PM | MSG 73 So, once again, you are unable to answer direct questions. What's the point of posting your opinion, when you are unable to explain how you reached it?
Who is my worst enemy, and does the amendment of a printed figure constitute creating a whole language? And don't forget, there are those who still use thy and thou, despite you Scots having got rid of them.
