When some people find out I have them they are shocked...they tell me that I wasn't the type (whatever that type is) of person they thought would have them.

(I know that is a "bye" graemlin but for this post - it's a "hello") - I've gotten the same comments from many people, especially considering what/where/size of the one I got, lol!

Yep. Definately too boring for many.

Life is like that. Some like tattoos, some don't. Some have good jobs, some don't. Some like trailer parks, some don't. There are lots of people in this world and we each get to be what we want. It is what we present to the rest of the world which governs how or if they want to deal with us.

The original poster had a question which I answered. I know the topic has come up at work, from time to time, and most of my co-workers felt the same way about tattoos.

Get a tattoo? Yes or no. If you do, there WILL be those who will make a judgement about it. Some positive, some negative. Don't get a tattoo. They have to judge you on your merits.

You may say, I don't care if others judge me. If they do I don't care. That is your choice, just as everything else in your life is a choice. I (And many of my friends) prefer a more traditional look. We refer to it as classy (not the lack of tattoos, in and of itself) and like women to look and act a certain way. I see very few professional women (Drs., lawyers, dentists etc...not hookers) with tattoos. They are generally well educated and....classy. It's just what i like. I'm not alone in this.

Be what you want and date people who go for your type of person.

One of my female school teachers had a tattoo. It was very delicate wreath with roses that went around her wrist. I actually thought it looked very classy.

Look at Bif naked..she looks good to me and she is covered in tats..it's all personal choice.. some see them as unclassy, some deem then unsightly..and some love them as I do. It's like saying only redheads look hot, or I like the colour Blue.. all and all It's just preference.

Sensible..I don't mean to rain on your parade or sound rude at all but it sounds a bit unrealistic in this day and age. So many people are individuals now and alot of women just aren't how they used to be in the 20's. The women who don't have tattoos are still judged on their merits as well as ones who don't have tattoos could be judged on the fact they have crooked teeth or a lazy eye or their ears pierced. It sounds to me as if you're looking for the standard of women that just isnt around anymore..or no i shouldn't say that..but rare is more of the word i am looking for. I know alot of classy women with piercings, tattoos and different colour hair. Class isnt just wearing a dress and having your hair in a bun. It's how you present yourself. Class to me is being yourself and being an indivdual and not letting someone judge you and break you and taking it with a grain of salt. That is true class. Not being sarcastic or anything..but where you work I'm sure the same people who have said tattoos are non classy are the ones visiting a dominatrix at night wearing women's clothes begging to be slapped in the rear. The more close minded a person appears to be in public is sometimes the more they are into stuff you wouldnt believe behind closed doors.

This is the first time i have ever ranted on here and I don't mean to offend anybody in any way and i hope i didn't.

edit...yeah Bif Naked is pretty hot :D

Heh... I think bif and pam are both gross, personally. Bif looks like she should be asking to clean my windshield for spare change, and Pam looks like she belongs in some seedy biker bar wrapped around a pole. Yuck.

No offense, but class to you and class to the rest of the english speaking world are two different things. Class isn't about being an individual, independence is about being an individual. Historically, lower class people work with their hands, upper class people groom themselves to represent groups of other people as diplomats. Class is ALL about thinking about other people. Individuality was historically denied to people of higher class. You don't see royals running around with punk hairdos and piercings, do you?

To look classy is to look like you belong in the upper class. To be classy is to be able to function in upper class settings without giving offense to anyone who is there, regardless of what their sensibilities are. It has nothing to do with being good, decent, honest, having integrity, or any of these things.

I really don't understand why so many people who clearly highly value individuality and self expression walk around insisting that their tattoos are "classy", when it's clear that the very idea of their being asked to fit into a class structure would offend them.

Just be proud of your tatts and your individuality.

Apparently what you consider to be class and what i do are different so what?? I really don't care if as you so rudely put it "The rest of the english speaking world" thinks different from me..I know it's not the case and i think that was a very rude and shallow comment. This is my last post on this thread.

That is part of it as well, because if you erupt in public, then you are not showing much class either. So both comments have some truth

Well, I don't think that I was rude, and I certainly didn't intend to be. But if you look in the dictionary, that's what the word means, and the fact that everyone here has different ideas about what the word means is where disagreements seem to be coming from. But I am sorry if you took offense.

And getting back to Pamela Anderson, Yes, she can look hot at times. But you'd never call her lovely or beautiful. Christina Aguilera in her chaps looked Hot. Just isn't the type of woman that any of us looking for nice, symbolic tattoos are really aspiring to! (I don't think)

if a chick IS lovely and beautiful, and gets tattoos, she becomes MORE lovely and beautiful

if a chick is NOT lovely and beautiful, and gets tattoos, she becomes LESS lovely and beautiful

And to me a tattoo is a long stick covered in gelatin. Umm. What I mean there is your definition of class is about as accurate as my definition of a tattoo. What you THINK it means and what it actually means to the rest of the world are totally different. When I see professional women like doctors and lawyers and executives wearing tattoos, I might slightly agree with you, but for now, they have too much 'class" to do so. They are also the kind of women that many men are attracted to. Usually, women like these are attracted to the same kind of men who aren't attracted to women who wear tattoos.

While Frost may use your dictionary, many others don't.

As for what type of men I work with, I'm pretty safe in saying they probably aren't any more likely to be looking for what you suggest than they are to be dating people of your...ummm....class.

So you can tell a persons profession just by looking at them(assuming they are dressed is "casual wear" and showing any tattoos they have). And you know for a fact that that because they are doctors and lawyers and executives that by virtue fo that they do not have tattoo's and wouldn't date people with them. What do you base that upon besides ignorance...Hell let's lay down other blanket statements..all white people are racist..all guys who have nice cars have small d*cks... all women are after is your wallet/bankaccount... if you see a black person in a nice car they must sell drugs...

Give me a BREAK! Your experience with professional women is obviously quite limited. I am a well-educated professional woman and work with other well-educated professional women. Some of the professional women (and men for that matter) I know have less class than 'hookers'... Putting a man or a woman into a professional role and giving them education does not make them classy. Heck... some serial killers are/were well-educated, well-dressed upstanding members of the upper/middle class. An expensive suit is just that, an expensive suit. Expensive suits cover up trashy people very well.

I don't have a tattoo now... but I work with some awesome women who are also professionals, who are respectable and real. And have tattoos. Tattoos don't make people trashy, attitudes make people trashy.
