| Why don't you age? Posted: 12/20/2007 7:16:37 PM | No one talks to me about how old I look. I think most days I look 37, and I am 37. Some days I look 30 and some 42, but for the most part, I think I look my age. But, like a lot of people on here have said, I exercise, drink a lot of water, try to eat a balanced/healthy diet, sleep enough, avoid stress, get lots of fresh air, drink tea, etc.
As someone else said, I don't need to look a lot younger than I am; I just don't want to look older.
What I do notice, however, is that EVERYONE seems to look younger for their age than they did 20 years ago. People are living longer, so when you're 35, you aren't as close to expectancy as you used to be. My parents are in their 70s, and I think they look younger than the average person in their 70s looked 20 years ago. Plus, people are more aware now of what causes premature aging, and as a result, some people are much more careful.

| Why don't you age? Posted: 12/20/2007 9:15:02 PM | Beats the heck out of me , I smoke and have since I was 18 . Don't really drink more than an occasional bloody mary . I don't like the heat since I don't sweat so I stay out of the sun most of the time. I've never worn makeup . I eat pretty much what sounds good to me at the moment but have a real liking for dark chocolate. Never had any major diseases. I stay active and don't sweat the small stuff.
Or it could just be genetics lol. My mom is 77 and looks great .
One thing I do know tho is that most of the men (not all ) my age that I meet seem so much older than me .

| Why don't you age? Posted: 12/22/2007 11:23:52 PM | Look at my photos on my profile and you will see how I got the nick name "Baby face"! I still get carded when I buy cancer sticks for my friends! I attribute my youthfull glow to lots of laughter! I refuse to hang around with people who require a "Professional corn-cob extraction"!!! No sun or I will be more of a connect the dots game than I already am and No cancer sticks or drugs, makes the skin look yellow and haggard! Then there is killer DNA from my 70 year old Mom who looks 45! Emotions that are bottled make a person age too, so laugh when its funny, cry when life sucks and choose your battles wisely and don't be an ass to people for no reason or you maybe screwing yourself out of a great friend! | |

| Why don't you age? Posted: 12/23/2007 1:13:59 PM | | It's definitely a gift from Mom & Dad. I smoked from the age of 15 'til 30, exercise only if it's fun, drink coffee daily, love wine, and still have no wrinkles at 40. Get hit on by younger men and carded regularly. The only thing I can take credit for is wearing sunscreen on my face daily for the past 20 years, eating mostly healthy food and getting 8 hours of sleep nightly. Being child free might have something to do with it, I dunno. | |

| Why don't you age? Posted: 1/15/2008 10:09:31 PM | The life you live in your 20's will make a big difference when you reach your 30's. I grew up in a military Family so exercise was something that was the norm. Exercise carried on in my life after I moved out on my own. I try to eat right, doesn't always work but for the most part I'm un top of my game. | |

| Why don't you age? Posted: 2/19/2008 8:39:05 AM | | I wouldn't say that I'm "TV quality", but because I'm often mistaken for being younger (I'll be 38 this weekend) I feel safe in answering: It's luck. Luck and genes. I don't work out, I smoke, I drink and I eat fast food more often than I should (3+ times per week). So in my case...it's luck and genes, I guess! | |

| Why don't you age? Posted: 2/19/2008 1:09:01 PM | I have to agree with CabnSyrah. Being child free is part of it. I have friends younger than me who have kids and they now look older than me. Lots of sleep too. I thought Brad Pitt looked really good for his age, but now, with his 12 kids, he looks really run down. | |

| Why don't you age? Posted: 2/19/2008 8:49:04 PM | | well I have always been told I look younger than my age. I have a girly face which makes you appear younger, I have never smoked , drank or done drugs I live in a rural community also. But genetics plays a tremendous part in the way one looks my pics are recent also........ | |

| Why don't you age? Posted: 2/19/2008 10:18:16 PM | Genetics help. My mother looks very young, too. It's part skin type (oily), part bone structure and part coloring. I have blonde hair and dark eyelashes and brows. No gray and no wrinkles. The basics are such that I don't have to mess with them much.
Beyond that, I was never a party girl and hate being around cigarette smoke. My diet is really good and I've been doing Yoga for nearly twenty years. I swim when I can, too, so you have clean living, good food and moderate, regular exercise. Hard to beat that.
Sun protection matters. My younger sister sails, and she now looks like my older sister.
I think it helps to not care much, or not put much effort into it. I don't bother with my hair beyond shampoo and conditioner, and I don't bother with make-up, either, except for special occasions. My hair is incredibly soft, but it has no heat damage, or damage from the chemicals they use in salons. I don't even use styling products on it. My skin lacks the kind of damage done by peels or too much make-up. I wear sunscreen, treat my acne, and that's it. I really think most beauty products and treatments cause more problems than they solve, at least in the long run, and as I get older, I'm starting to avoid even soap, preferring cream or oil-based cleansers.
Another help is weight, and I don't mean keeping it down. Past a certain age, people start looking like crap when they're too thin. That's part of my dad's problem. He's so lean that his skin has nothing holding it up, and it ages him a good twenty years. I'm not overweight, not by any definition, but I do have enough weight on me to fill out my cheeks and my bra. I'm slim, but not thin.
Personally, I think having kids keeps you young. At the very least, it gives you an excuse to build snowmen, play Mario Kart and go to water parks. My child was also responsible for my hips and bosom. I was built like a pencil before I became a mother.
A friend of mine says that the only place you can see my age is my hands. He's probably right, since my hands are into everything and they've been a bit banged-up over the years.

| Why don't you age? Posted: 2/19/2008 10:22:15 PM | msg. 335>>> But genetics plays a tremendous part in the way one looks
Absolutely! My mom was 79 when she passed away and her skin was like peaches and cream right up to the end. She looked as though she was in her early 50's and never had any plastic surgery. There are a lot of factors that contribute to the way people age. Ethnicity, eating well balanced meals and drinking lots and lots of water everyday keeps the skin hydrated. Having a good disposition and laughing everyday is said to help slow down the aging process. If you're happy on the inside then it shows on the outside. A smile always seems to make people look youthful. Sometimes it's easier said than done I'll admit. But, if you think about it, worrying and/or walking around harboring anger doesn't change anything but your health and creates lines on your face.
Living in a climate that requires indoor heating systems for months on end can dry the skin out if a good moisturizer isn't used daily. On the flip side, the sun does a lot of damage if proper precautions aren't taken. Everyone is aware of the threat of getting skin cancer from the sun. Using a good sunscreen is imperative if you live in Florida or the tropics. Leading an active life vs. a sedentary life, exercising daily and having good sleeping habits - all of that contributes to keeping youthful looking.
As a few have already posted, coming from a good gene pool plays a huge part in the way one ages. It's a blessing for which I'll be forever thankful..

| Why don't you age? Posted: 2/20/2008 1:15:27 AM | Without having read all 335 previous replies and taking into account personal experience, I think another large contributory factor is stress and trauma.
Personally I knew that I looked younger before I had Leukaemia and that those 2 years aged me about 7 or 8 due to the stress and worry and trauma that you go through. Either that or maybe it was just my time to deteriorate rapidly!
If you add into that a divorce or two, stressful job, losing a parent, moving house (all cheery activites) and I'm sure they will take their toll.

Posted: 2/20/2008 1:01:29 PM | | i look younger than i am by at least 10 years, and that's because i take extremely good care of my skin. i don't like people to touch my face, or my skin for that matter. i use regular soap, and wash my face every day. when looking for a girlfriend that is something i definitely look at is beautiful skin.

Just my opinion........

| Why don't you age? Posted: 2/20/2008 9:35:42 PM | /\ /\ /\ I did't really want to say that, but that's what I was thinking. Mind you, I did see a profile of a 54-year-old woman on another thread a couple of days ago ( NOT an age related topic), who had candid, natural, not "glamour" photos, and ANY reasonable person would have guessed she was in her late 20s or early 30s. So "younger looking" people are definately out there. So far, though, it's rarely (in my experience) the ones who say it. Most of them are just buying the well-meaning blarney all of us get from kind friends. | |

| Why don't you age? Posted: 2/21/2008 7:25:25 AM | I've been told I don't look my "age" but I'm not sure exactly what that means. until about 5 years ago I was still getting carded. (OMG that is such an ego boost)
But my mom looks young also...she's 64 and I wouldn't put her a day over 55. So genes have a big factor I think.
I'm Canadian...maybe there is less air pollution(?) I don't tan regularly and always wear sunscreen. I'm not a big junk food fan, but I dn't eat healthfood everyday.
I smoke, but I don't drink or do drugs. I maintain my weight... but was blessed with a high metabolism so I don't really work that hard at it.
Ultimately I think it has a lot to do with attitude... I've never really considered myself a "grown-up" and I approach life as a marvelous learning experience. I've seen it in older people too.. the happiest and most positive look younger than their years. Our attitude gets etched on our faces.

In my case, it's getting carded trying to buy fireworks a few years ago. More recently, it's been medical professionals taking a second look at my chart and me, and then commenting.
I think it's funny. | |

| Why don't you age? Posted: 2/21/2008 1:29:08 PM | You are what you eat. Eating junk will make you junk... eating live food will make you alive.
Attitude is everything. It doesn't matter how much you wrinkle, if you smile a lot your wrinkles will just make you more beautiful. People with bitter wrinkles automatically look 10 years older (to me). Wrinkles are like a promise... if someone has a lot of happy wrinkles, it's a good bet they will be fun to be around. If they have bitter wrinkles, it doesn't matter how they act at first - their true face will show itself eventually. I do believe people can change, but most of the time they don't.
Disclaimer: I know nothing, this is only what my brain tells me right now and is subject to change.

And they look young even in recent photos. Can anyone volunteer stuff like what kind of life you lived? Daily schedule while you were in your 20s? Alcohol is a preservative. ...I knew this in my 20's and made a long term investment for my future.

| Why don't you age? Posted: 2/23/2008 4:04:23 PM | I inherited my youthful appearance from my mother, who was often mistaken for my sister when I was in my teens. The fact that I don't use harsh soaps or any makeup on my face may be a factor too. A healthy diet, with lots of water and vitamins helps.
