Why don't you age?
Posted: 3/29/2008 11:49:00 PM
I'm not "TV" quality but I'm often told I look younger than my birth certificate says I am. I don't use makeup or color my hair, but I get hit on by guys half my age. Why do I think this is true? A number of reasons. First of all is attitude. I have an upbeat, positive attitude. I walk around smiling, looking like I'm having a good time, and I *am* having a good time. Life is mostly what you make it. In addition, I stay physically, mentally, and socially active. I'm of a healthy weight, I eat pretty well, laugh a lot. I've never smoked and drink *very* moderately. I have good posture. All of these contribute to an appearance and attitude that people associate with someone younger than my years.

I'm usually taken for someone much younger, and even with a shaved head, I get looks from teens to women much older than I. Most presume I'm around 35, and don't believe me until I show some I.D. Although they might wonder why I appear to be as young as I seem, it should come as no surprise if all would just refrain from consuming less alcohol, quit smoking and stop sunbathing. Start eating right and get some regular exercise. Smarten up. ( Sorry if I turned cranky, I'm 51. )

I am 46; I have good Irish genes - thanks, Ma!

Also, I don't smoke, I drink a glass of wine now and again and I do not sun bathe!

I go to the gym 5 days a week, do my best to eat correctly and get healthy sleep.

Most definitely genetics is #1. (70%) I would say . Then the next is diet(cut down or out as much processed foods as possible), EXERCISE. Sleep is also very important to replenish cells, skin care, GOOD vitamins from health store. ..positive outlook on life and being able to overcome-(good friends help) ;)
Dont be an "angry" person holding hostility, unforgiveness( a choice that you make-doesnt mean you dont struggle at times,we all do) grudges-it will cost you healthwise eventually.
People are always telling me how young I look to have kids my age -they always do double takes or ask me again how old I am.
I want to live to a healthy ripe old age. My grandma was 98 when she finally passed on and my mom looks great!!!

Oh yea, Im also around younger people as well alot and I relate to them, kid around, have discussions with them, have alot of same interests. I am more active physically which may be the reason, enjoy learning and trying new things too, which makes me lean towards younger men as well ;0 LOL!!!

hmm well apart from the fallacy that skin products will keep you looking young, personally i think when a woman smiles she loses about 10 yrs off her
all this people think crap is a buncha malarkey
people will say whatever it takes to get a nod of approvl from the object they are talking to
skin products are important to keep the great big wrinkles off and hey at the same time so does facelifts and numerous other surgical procedures

the main things that make people think you are younger than u may really be are generally attitude, behaviour patterns(ie friskyness) and how often u laugh and smile
most people attach an idea of grouchy achy moaning to the elderly, ( by that i mean ppl over 39) hehe
granted i have seen pictures of women over 50 who i must say really make me reconsider lookin at the younger women .there is still something alluring about an older woman who still is young at heart. that is where it really matters tho, the pretend faces and surgeries and forever being unhappy just to look young really is a big turn off in the end
be yourself and be happy with who you have become , never mind what you look like or what you think others might think you look like
being confident and mature and still frisky is more important than any facelift or lifetime subscription to some cheesy makeup company

Everyone ages; it's the nature of life, of our existence.

But then you can age in so many different ways...

I actually get this question a lot.....from 20-somethings....my advice.....DON'T HAVE KIDS!! LOL
And don't marry just to marry. I'm 36 (and proud), never been married, and I don't consider myself desperate, I consider myself smart. Not to put down divorcees (not my intention) but I'd rather grow old alone and happy than to settle and grow old with someone who I want to scratch his eyes out......lol......

I am constantly being guessed as 10 yrs younger then my age of 48. I was told by my dermatologist (who also pegged me at 10yrs younger) that my skin while a little damaged, was in over all good condition due to not smoking and most important staying out of the sun and using lots of sun screen. The other thing he was pleased about was my use of Dove Soap.. go figure!

I don't know why......but I did enter into some kind of contract with an angel that was falling from heaven........

What could possibly go wrong with that.

Wow..it's been almost 2 1/2 years since I posted on this thread!
At that time,I thought I looked pretty damn good for my age.
But,sometimes life has a way of throwing you some unexpected and unpleasant surprises(usually all at once it seems. )
So,at this point,I look in the mirror and I see every day of my 45 years, and,I'm okay with that.
As long as I can be happy within myself, looking younger (or not) seems kind of irrelevant now to me.

I totally agree with you! I am the same way. I have never had kids and never been married. I always get told I look younger than I am. I still get asked for ID and I am more than happy to pull out my DL to show them!. I've seen women 10 years younger than me look way older than me.

Stress is the number one factor for wrinkles, I don't care what anyone says. I don't think genetics have a ton to do with it. My sister who is a year older than me, looks about 10 years older because of the lifestyle she leads (read:married with kids).

Also, I can't stress enough about sunscreen and drinking lots of water and don't do drugs. Also don't wear tons of makeup. Let your skin breathe.

There's just people who don't age fast biologically. They take care of themselves and lead healthy lives.
Then of course you also meet the opposite: people in their 20's and 30's who look 2 decades older.
Ouch.

How many times have you people opened a poster's profile, when they said, "I look younger than my age." And didn't agree with them at all? You only look young for your age, when you're compared to someone who looks old for their age.

I AGREE WITH HDK---I KNOW A GAL THAT IS 55, THINKS SHE LOOKS 40 AND WONDERS WHY MEN IN THEIR LATE 30'S OR EARLY 40'S ONLY HAVE SEX WITH HER AND DON'T COME BACK. SHE SAYS SHE DON'T WANT TO DATE MEN HER AGE BECAUSE THEY ARE WRINKLED AND TOO OLD. HER LOSS. OLDER MEN MAY HAVE SOME WRINKLES, BUT WE'RE NOT DEAD. ALSO MANY WOMEN ON HERE WON'T RESPOND TO A GUY WHEN THEY SEE HE IS OLDER. PRE-JUDGED I GUESS.

I know I may get a lot of bashing for having the nerve to step forward on this. I don't think I'm all that, but I do get a lot of ppl in their mid 30's to early 40's say "you're too young to remember this," or "people our age...", so I may have something to share.

Yes, good genes is likely to be a factor, but I think even "bad" genes can be overcome.

What I did when I finally snapped out of my couch-lock was start a cleanse (Master Cleanser) after reading about it on another forum. I will post it in its entirety if anyone is interested. I did it for 14 days and felt an amazing change in my eyesight, skin and energy level (went up, up, up). Then I did detox using zeolite (it's a multi-level marketing product, so I won't recommend a distributor because I don't care about that aspect of it - you can google for a source). It has an interesting molecular structure that traps and pulls toxins out of you and it's a natural, harmless mineral. It gets out uranium, mercury, aluminum, pesticides, the list goes on and and it DOES work. It was extremely unpleasant to get rid of the stuff and took months, which was costly, but much cheaper than cancer. The mercury was the worst. It felt like a had brittle swords being pulled out of me, especially around the jaw. I had all my mercury fillings replaced years ago and was shocked to discover how much was still left in my soft tissue.

Then I had rolfing (deep massage that breaks up fascia) to clear my frozen shoulder and carpal tunnel. I had a series of massages a few years ago and I'm still releasing fine nerves all over my body. Apparently, the affected nerves traveled down through to my feet, especially the right side.

I used Oil of Oregano, an amazing natural antibiotic that naturally contains carvacol, the strongest antibiotic known. It's very important that you use the right oregano, because there are a lot of products that contain the wrong one (mediterranean vs. wild mexican - you want the wild mexican.) The best supplier I know of for this is at www.se!.us. I used this for two weeks (3 drops in a bowl of steaming water with a towel over the head) to clear out my sinuses, lungs and everything else. You can also cut this 1:12 parts OoO to organic olive oil and use it topically for cuts and infections and under the tongue for prevention (cold, flu, etc.).

I only eat organic and use meat as a condiment, run 4+ miles every other day (or try to), do steam saunas (another great detox) and let's see --- stay away from teevee and meditate. I do smoke all natural cigarettes, Nat Sherman Hint o' Mint, about a half a pack a day. It is one of the only vices I hang onto. I don't drink. Never had plastic surgery, never will. I detest conventional medicine and believe we are all very powerful beings and have the internal technology to do anything, once we tap into the source. I think having a strong belief in spirit, along with a study in energy (such as yoga or martial arts) is also key.

I think something snapped in me that made me want to be healthy more than ANYTHING. I just went at it.

Hope this helps!

LOL.. well as an 'older woman' and not one sure of being TV quality, i would think it is either good genes or easy living! For me personally, as some say i look younger than i am, i guess it maybe genetic... and not due to layering on too much make up too young and then using heaps of lotions, potions, tonics and miracle de-wrinklers to take it all of again every night.. I use water, that's always been my schedule! As for lifestyle.. lot's of stress, incredibly late nights and always being busy seems to do the job, with smoking and drinking of course added to that! ha ha

I've been told that I look like I'm 27 or 28 and I'm 37 for crying out loud!
So, I'm not complaining about that one bit. I do have just a bit of grey coming out of my "sideburn" area which I'm not fond of at all.
I'm sure the following points have been discussed over and over but I'm repeating them and possibly adding some new ones. Anyways if you want to look younger longer...
1. Eat LOTS of fruit / vegetables and drink lots of water. It will flush out a lot of impurities. If tap water turns you off, get a Brita pitcher or something.
2. If you tan whether it's by the sun or in a booth or whatever, do so in moderation and keep that skin moisturized! If you tan everyday, you will regret it on down the line.
3. Smoking will age your skin bigtime. Don't smoke and if you do, STOP!
4. Don't drink like a fish either, and stay away from hard drugs.
5. Eat junk food sparingly. Or better yet, don't eat it at all.
6. Consume fresh food and avoid processed food when / if possible.
7. Get out of debt. Debt will stress you out bigtime and stress will age you faster than anything
8. And on and on...

When I was in my 20's I was really too busy to go to tanning bed ...in college I spent most of my time studying and then had a child in my early 20's(no time to tan)....so I think that preserved my skin a little.. Also my parents didn't smoke so think that has alot to do with it...smoking takes oxygen out of ur system and causes wrinkles...I also haven't smoked most of my life (well I have picked a few up lately some friends can testify to that..lol) . My skin is also thick so gives it smoother appearance...

In my 20's I was a highly stressed workaholic who lived on caffeine and cigarettes and maybe ate once a day if that. I traveled three weeks out of a month leaving every Sunday and coming back on Friday night. Just long enough to do laundry, pack and leave again. I was with my ex-husband from 17 years old and from 22 to 30, he didn't work or clean or do much of anything except harrass me about working too much (any reason to get away from a bad situation). I finally got up my courage and left at 30.

I have always had a positive outlook (not delusional, just trying to make the most of whatever situation I was facing). I laugh a lot. I do not have kids. I do have an awesome dog and I have had her for 4 years. I am close with all three of my siblings and my parents (even though they are all crazy). I have traveled and lived in places just because I thought they were cool and fit who I was at that time. And this may be ridiculous.....but.....when I was 16 my Dad told me the only thing a woman needed to stay beautiful forever was noxema to clean her face and Oil of Olay to keep it soft. I know....it is totally corny - but he gave me my first bottle of it for my birthday and I have used it every day since (although we are now using the Regenerist line ).

Anyway - here comes 37 and it doesn't hurt a bit!

Dark beer and frequent masturbation. OK, seriously. I'm 39 and have ben told I look a lot younger. I stay active, I wear clothes that look youthful but not teeny bopperish. I keep a general idea of what's in stayle lookwise. IE. you could be 27 and if you're rockin' a Burt Reynolds stache you will look MUCH older.
