Look, people..is it possible that two things happen?

1) When you post a thread, that you include as much info as possible, so that future thread searches can pick up on the relevant aspects?

2) That when you start a new thread, you conduct a thread search?

Don't blame me for this..Hams made me do it!! lol

Someone who I respect enormously started a new thread today and it was up for deletion. The point being made is please put in the correct title, then people can find it easily. He did a thread search and turned up nothing but in fact the subject had been done before under different words,

MSG 28 This is precisely the sort of situation that can be avoided if people used titles properly.

Too often, we get idiots who post " A little help", or "what would you do if".

I recently reported a poster whose three thread titles were obscure, and thankfully, he hasn't bothered to post any new ones.

If you haven't got the intelligence to include all the relevant words in a thread title, you plainly haven't got the necessary intelligence to understand any of the responses...so stop fcuking posting thread titles with words missing!!!!

I would have to agree,if a newbie and yes I was one of them needs to do a thread search it makes it a lot easier if the correct words are used Makes life very difficult if topics ar egiven obscure titles..

I will be a bore with you then Hams!

It is irritating and annoying when people cannot be bothered to post a decent title and old timers are just as guilty of this as newbies...

Doesn't help in a search and also is just plain grrrr....

If you can be bothered to go tot he effort of posting a thread, at least be bothered to give it an informative title!

I would have to agree !
Not hard to put a thread title that matches the thread content .Makes searching through archives a lot easier.

I couldnt care less what the title says. I just click on most of them to see what they're about and if I like them I'll comment if I dont I wont. Not a problem for me.

Have to disagree with you Sprite.

The whole purpose of a CLEAR PRECISE title to a thread is to stop the repetition of done to death subjects & of course to help us find what's been done before in a thread search BEFORE posting a new thread.

Believe me, it really does work if it's done properly!

Ok i get the drift of thread titles being clear and relevant. And believe I have been as relevant in my threads as i can be.

But quite frankly.. my dear, i dont give a damn. I'm with sprite.
I go with the flow ..

The clarity to be fair was obscure

I dont often start threads so I do on this occasion agree with all you deleting chuffers

I will in future think long and hard afore posting summat of worthiness or if I am in pissedupness land I will put the child lock on the ole' mouse

When I first came on here I made mistakes - isnt that was everyone does when they
start something new. Really dont think its a matter of intelligence. Ive had two deleted but thats because I didnt do a thread search so my own fault. I think about what Im about to put now and Im not saying I wont make mistakes but I'm getting better

Im disagree with the "thread clarity" lovers here... What makes perfect sense to someone might not make any sense to someone else...
Unless you are going to have a thread clarity mod that goes around telling people off and renaming all the threads to suit absolutely everyone then you will get accidental duplications now and then.
I can understand it when there is a thread that clearly hasnt been searched before and it has the exact same word in the title, then yeah it might annoy some people...

But chill out about this...

TTG, i have been here for a year now and there has always been confusion with thread titles and duplicate posts...

Sorry but it will only work if no one ever is allowed to join POF and only the regulars are allowed to post, and lets face it A) that aint ever gonna happen and B)None of us would want that anyway

A year next week for me Leanne!

Let me try to explain if I can, I see it like this.

If the thread title is accurate then a search will reveal that BEFORE new posts are created which will CUT DOWN (note not stop completely) threads being duplicated. I fully understand that certain KEY words vary (ie. Coke or Coca Cola) then if that happens it's a simple job to point that thread in the right direction & delete the duplicate.

Of course the "newbies" will have to get used to doing a search using several key words & "grace" can be given to inexperience but NOT to ignorance when the "rules" are known & the methods to apply ignored. Markus has made his rules & interpretation of them VERY clear, tis a shame sometimes we disrespect his welcome in this way.

Hope that makes my point clearer.

PS: Where's "our Vin" when you need him lol

See there is an example of lack of clarity... You should try posting that comment in the sex and dating forum with maybe the title "how uptight people in the UK forums make me want to Bum them"

Then that explains exactly how you want your thread to be discussed etc

A fully qualified psychologist (Nottingham University, 2:1 Hons) speaks:

Anal Retentive is actually a scientifically defined state of psychosis engendered by a state of thread envy, whereby those with very short threads feel threatened and hit out by voting to delete others' threads. Also manifests in various other forms such as sarky comments and extensive use of quotes boxes!

Si

(And yes for the first 4 years of my working life I was actually employed as a psychologist)
