Wow , now its a matter of self respect, a lot easier to say than addicted, rolls off of the tounge nicer doesnt it, and theirs no feax pas, well done.

Or perhaps.....hmmm , maybe the same chemicals you **** about in the second hand smoke aisle, are the same ones that keep some comin back for more, naaawwwwww thats a stretch aint it???

Knew you were lookin for me gregorian, just to get habitually abused from you lol!!! But on second thought why dont you take that arrogant 16 yr old kid i was into your time machine and bring him to me , and ill tell him not to smoke and you will have nothing to argue about and you life will be empty without this fantastic, incredibly arguable post!

Dude i think your missing the point, i think its trying to say stop smoking your killing ppl. i mean this is extreme but its like saying being the one who doesnt have a gun makes you more likely to be killed.....so isnt it safer to have a gun?
if no one smoked im confident that the fatality rate would drop dramatically

All depends upon what your smoking.

I used to smoke a pack a day of cigarettes, and now supplement it with outdoor exercise all year round. Took me over a year to not want a cigarette, but I feel really fantastic now.

imthinkin' - I'm thinkin' people told you not to smoke when you were 16. I'm sure the "message" was at least out there. And ya still started anyway. As far as being addictive, sure - it is. Well, some people quit, and some don't. I don't find the chemicals in the 2nd hand smoke making me want to start, or making me addicted to 2nd hand smoke - I don't know if that's what you're trying to say, since your posts are nearly incomprehensible. It's not the same going in as it is going out, but whatever. Just grow some balls and save your money and your health. I don't care either way as long as you don't smoke around me. Hell, I don't even care if my friends smoke near me - I have a choice to go outside where it's open air with them or wait for 'em inside where it's smoke free.

Yeah sure! Being a smoker is soooo much better.
I love getting up in the morning and finding I am outa cigs. Its a delight to get in the car in my robe and head to the 7-11.

You're hilarious...lol and also make a very valid point ---> it sucks to be a slave to your addiction...and i don't quite understand why anybody would continue to choose to be a slave to anything, much less having to pay to slowly kill yourself and your loved ones in the process, smelling like crap, having to stand outside in freezing weather to get that nicotine fix, it's like being an outcast or a leper...but hey...what do i know...lol...

Just being a HAPPY & HEALTHY NON-SMOKER...

You'll all quit...sooner or later

Enjoy that next cigarette!!

Besides smoking causing your alveoli to rupture and leaving your lungs without any surface area to exchange gasses, therefore suffocating you slowly, what is good about it? Not good to stink like a burning house! I don't even want to be down wind from a smoker...stay away from me. The last time I went out with a smoker I was unable to breath due to an asthmatic episode the next day. Nasty habit. Never again!

Gregorian ,,,,Just grow some balls, dood wheres the love??? The whitty banter we got on here i think is great but you gotta just jump on the nolove bandwagon and get down right nasty, but always good for a debate. I really have had no arguement since the start except go throw out a little leway the smokers way, and ive mostly been argueing for the sake of rileing you up and seeing what you come bak with , but since your throwin out the harshness ill let you be and wait for the next post that i have a chance of winniing!!

The second leading cause of lung cancer is indoor radon gas.

In the old days when smoking was allowed in the workplace everywhere,
many people did get cancer from second hand smoke. Children get chronic
upper respiratory infections if exposed and even worse. If an employee
in a saloon or restaurant doesn't want to be exposed to second hand smoke
that's reasonable and should be accomodated somehow.

But the fact is that smoke stinks. It gets into your clothes and it's just not
fashionable to stink. People are hella more concerned about cosmetics and ambience, They just use the health issue to get extreme legislation passed. It's like the War
on Drugs. It's really a War on other people's liberty.

Anybody, especially in a relationship, has every right to not be compelled to stink
and be exposed to health risks.

BUT

If you won't permit alternatives to a total ban on indoor smoking, then you better, by
GOLLY, take an interest in Indoor Radon Gas. Oh, that might negatively effect your
real estate investments? There goes YOUR credibility. Voters have been sold a
bill of goods.

OMG, now I want a cigar. This is all your fault. It's zero degrees F out here and I ain't gonna open a window either.

Very health apparently. I don't have to deal with the problems that comes from not having the nicotine in my system. I am not at any extra risk for certain types of diseases, cancers, internal damage. It does not prove smoking is better protection, and that I DEFINITELY know because my business ethics and the scientists and doctors who HAVE been proving the damaging properties of smoking. And I am still trying to figure out where your first statement came from. If I remember correctly, more and MORE non-smokers are getting lung cancer BECAUSE of the number of smokers and how smokers could smoke any and every place they pleased. That is one of the reasons why the government are posing such strict laws about smoking. But, what kills me is that the government is willing to allow the public to get addicted on yet another drug for the sake of money. Lovely government we have, eh?

I've had a loved one who passed away at the age of 34 due to heart failure and he was a heavy chain smoker. I found out that he did have heart problems, but did not tell tell anyone. Even his own family didn't know about this. I'm sure the cigarettes helped him along with his demise on a faster pace though. What pisses me off is that his dad and sister still smoke cigarettes. It's as if they didn't learn their lesson and decide to quit after losing him. They say it's stress which is a sorry ass for an excuse. I've never tried a cigarette in my life and I'm not about to pick up smoking now no matter how stressed I'am. It's a disgusting habbit and yes it does kill you. It's a slow death. I know a few people who work in hospitals and they've even confessed to me many times that a lot of their patients suffer from illnesses due to smoking. It's also unhealthy for your wallet and it's funny the people I know who smoke seem to complain about money. They don't even have enough money to even buy food which is sad. If one would stop smoking they would be surprised of how much money they will save. Hmmm...do the math.

first of all I am not or ever will be a smoker. I have accute asthma and everytime I am near a person that smokes I wind up having to go to the ER. I don't deprive them of thier right to live thier lives the way they want. I don't care if they smoke or not. I do mind that when I have to go to the ER two days in a row and it costs me anywhere from 1500 to 2000 dollars a visit it tends to be expensive. I have had times where I went to the hospital six times in one month due to smokers coming near me smoking. I tried to get away but they had to talk to me and continued to come. Until I became rude and told them to get the hell away from me with the cigarette. To give an example here I spent two weeks in the hospital not long ago due to a smoker blowing smoke my way. They could not regulate my oxygen levels in my blood. to stableize it took that length of time. Blood oxygen dropped to 81 and accusionally hit 79 % until they managed to regulate it. Bad part of it is usual visit to ER for this is 12 hours of breathing treatments. not counting the meds to help open my airways and lungs.
I just ask if a person is going to smoke then at least respect those of us that don't or can't be near it in any way. Oh and before any ask if I am sure it was smoke that caused it yes I am and there has been only one other thing I have found that has set off my asthma and thats pepper. I found that out today while cooking since it was the first time I used pepper while I was cooking since I don't care for the taste of it.
another thing I can't stand is when I go out to eat and the smoker has to light up as soon as the eat. I know that is a crock of BS. My mother smoked 3 to four packs a day my father two. My brother still does two and his wife two. My brother in law is a three packer but when we go to eat they wait until we are outside to lite up and they don't lite up in the vehicle I am in. And for a little info both my mother and father died of cancer as did my step father and step mother. I was told if they had not smoked then they would not have had as much chance to get the lung cancer they had.
I just wonder for the ones that are young enough to have children are they causing the child to have lung problems later in thier lives.

What someone else does to their body is none of my business. If I don't want to be around it, I don't go where there are smokers. It's pretty simple. Stay away from those who smoke. They have the right to do whatever they want, I have the right to avoid them. (smoking = low self-esteem? OMG we are a generation of over-therapy.)

sunbirdus it isn't a question of smokers and non smokers where dating is concerned to me. It is respect my right not to be near it is all I ask. I don't deprive the person of using the nasty smelling things and I don't really care. I just wish to have the respect given to me that I give to them that do smoke. I personally don't think that is asking to much since I am allergic to it and it places me in deaths way. some on these posts make comments on how much smoking is so called helpful in certain ways hell my brother and mother used the same excuses for years. I on the other hand can honestly say if I am not careful around someone that smokes then I will not be around. for an example the last post I made in this thread was on the 4th. this is the 12th and just yesterday I happened to walk by a person smoking and I happened to get a whif of the smoke. In less than an hour I was having problems breathing and still am this evening. had to do six breathing treatments due to a person smoking. Not once did I say a thing to this person on thier smoking I just walked on and have dealt with the problem of not being able to breathe completely free like I should. I just ask why should my life be at risk when walking thru a restruant after eating a meal. Thing is I was with a lady that does smoke and she is extremely careful not to have the smell of it on her and she refuses to smoke when we are together. so smokers and non smokers can date as long as respect is there between them.

I don't really care... If someone chooses to smoke, then that's their business. I personally don't do it (anymore), but I wouldn't mind dating a smoker if she smoked outside (and ONLY outside). Really, I don't want the house to smell bad... It's also 100% TRUE, people who smoke also STINK (I found that out after I quit smoking, because my sense of smell actually returned... lol), and finally, we all know smoke builds up soot, which leads to nasty dust particles lingering in the air, which in turn tends to make cleaning up house a pain in the @$$!

Like I said, I don't mind a smoker, so long as they keep it out doors... And what the hell... if I found a smoker chick, I might even be tempted to have one with her (once a week... or maybe once a month of course). Life is too short, too fickle and too "unreal" to worry about everything, so for the "perfect" person, I suppose I wouldn't mind smoking once or twice a month myself...

I smoke - smoking sucks.

People that don’t smoke have every right in the world to not be around the crap. And it IS crap.

It is also crap that smoking is anything but bad for you (and others) - bad bad bad.

I am considerate of others in all areas and that most definitely includes smoking.

I have tracked my number of cigarettes every day for years. I (every day) hold it down. I am not exactly a chain smoker by any stretch but sooner or later I may actually be able to quit.

I saw the words “self esteem” above. That very thing may be my ticket to quitting.

I’ve been on a major self improvement journey for the last eight months. I have regained my self confidence/esteem. While low self esteem was not the cause of me smoking - high self esteem could be the ticket to quiting.

As a matter of fact - I’ve already reduced my smoking about 25% recently - and it was not that high to start with.

I am in a perfect frame of mind to stop smoking. I have the will power - I have the know how - I have plenty of self esteem (now) about all it would take is a cutie pie non-smoker in my life. Not wanting to STINK with smoke (to her) would finish off the necessary motivation.
