| Marijuana....Friend of Foe? Posted: 4/10/2007 5:22:55 PM | | Booze and pot have been compared a lot over this thread, and understandably so. I view weed and alcohol as being on exactly the same level - fine in moderation, terrible as a regular thing. There's no way in hell I would want to associate with an alcoholic, but I have just as little desire to associate with someone who is stoned all the time. Personally, I haven't smoked weed in a few years, but I enjoy the odd beer on weekends, during hockey games, etc. I don't consider myself any better or worse than someone who smokes a joint at a party once in while. What bothers me is when someone who gets high every day considers themselves above or different than alcoholics. There's no difference - it is a dependance on a mind-altering substance. Plain and simple, addiction to any substance is a bad thing, be it illegal or legal, synthetic or natural. | |

| Marijuana....Friend of Foe? Posted: 4/10/2007 7:13:32 PM | *you suspect? yet you don't know. Therefore your opinions is as valid as someone who says the moon is made of cheese? First, it was a suspicion not an opinion. Second, the moon is made of cheese...Venezuelan Beaver Cheese...in my opinion.
*Again, based on your limited personal experience. therefore not fact. The only thing clearly presented as fact was prefaced by "I don't deny"
*It is FACT that pot lowers inhabitions and therefore makes one more open and "curious" to exploration to other drugs. Maybe you should try it.
*I have yet to hear anyone argue against the use of pot for medical or therapeutic use. Listen more closely to the government, some law enforcement agencies, pharmaceutical companies and other lobby groups.
*Another misdirection used by potheads. Who mentioned Alc or cigs other than you and what do they have to do with the topic at hand? Alcohol and nicotine are mentioned on the first page of this thread.
*yet you still smoke pot? but arent addicted? lol... No.
*good for you. Both your profiles in this thread say you drink and smoke cigarettes. If you think you are addicted, there is help available to you too.

| Marijuana....Friend of Foe? Posted: 4/12/2007 1:42:09 AM | I have to stand with GTRP. Both because I agree with his side of things, but also because he's the more skilled at debate.
In well over a year of smoking pot I have never, from any of the many people I've bought from, smoked with or otherwise partook in pot-product have I encountered a laced bag of pot. I have once encountered a laced joint. A friend bought it off a guy outside a club, not much was smoked before the obvious lacing kicked in and they tossed the rest.
I have never had the urge to try anything other than pot. Well, I'd like to try Salvia, but that's just me, I've read some interesting things about it. None of my smoking buddies have the urge to try anything different either. We tend to see ourselves as purists, not using chemical drugs because well, we've seen what they do.
I can quit whenever I want. Unlike a cigarette smoker these words are true. I quit for lent, no problem. I take a month or so off every few months because I can. Again, most of my smoking buddies do this. We refer to it as "going on break".

| Marijuana....Friend of Foe? Posted: 4/12/2007 5:46:36 AM | I smoke the occasional blunt. I have ever since high school. I suffer from terrible insomnia to the point where sometimes I don't sleep for several days. So sometimes its just what the doctor ordered. I feel it does me less harm than taking some of these sleeping pills I have tried. I'm well rested the next morning and not groggy like I was from pills. Plus I never take my car out for a joy ride at 4am when I'm still asleep aka Ambien. Never have heard of a single person overdose from the chronic. Can't say the same for sleeping pills, pain killers, etc. If Anna Nicole was just smoking the wacky tabacky she w0uld still be alive today. Perhaps a bit fatter and lazier, but alive just the same.
Its also one of the few products I know of that doesn't experience inflation. In fact I pay less now than I did 10 yrs ago, gotta like that. lol

| Marijuana....Friend of Foe? Posted: 5/7/2007 2:54:52 AM | With regard especially to marijuana and all recreational drugs, LESS IS MORE.
In short, do enough to be happy not delirious, psychotic, or out of your mind.
If you haven't the willpower to have fun on one drink, one puff, one hit, one line, or one pill, then you have no concept of the word MODERATION.
And yes, when your substance use becomes abuse, I hope you find it in yourself to check yourself into the nearest mental health & addictions centre.
This goes for cigarette smokers and hungry people too.
Doing anything to excess is almost a form of mental illness.
YMMV | |

| Marijuana....Friend of Foe? Posted: 5/7/2007 6:26:16 AM | I vote to keep this thread going!!!!
Nothing wrong with smoking pot. I don't drink. I wish the system would concentrate more on the crack and meth problem we have in our country. At least pot won't do to you what that shit does!!!
Those trying to delete this thread obviously have no experience, knowledge or appreciation of the benifits of smoking marijuana. Get your heads out of the dirt, or the whiskey bottle and take a good long look before you judge or decide.

| Marijuana....Friend of Foe? Posted: 5/7/2007 6:31:47 AM | And what do you have to say to the doctors that perscribe marijuana for pain? What is your comment when the medical profession tell us that marijuana reduces cancer growth. You obviously are speaking from the seat of your pants. Have another drink, because there is no doubt in my mind that you drink alot more than you admit. Pot does not alter your mind you fool, pot is a body stone. LSD, CRACK, METH... those alter your mind. Do some research before you beak off.
Cigarettes carry a bigger fine than a joint now. And they cause cancer!!!!

| Marijuana....Friend of Foe? Posted: 5/7/2007 6:41:37 AM | smoking pot is just another form of self abuse, plain and simple. same as drinking and smoking, of which i participate in. but to say 1 is better then the other is rediculious. | |

| Marijuana....Friend of Foe? Posted: 5/7/2007 8:39:45 AM | I have only had one patient that was on any form of marijuana, but it wasn't the actual herb itself. It was in pill form by the name of nabalone.
I do know of people in Vancouver that were HIV+ that got marijuana prescribed to them. They would take their card thing down to this medical place that in turn gave them marijuana. They often abused this priviledge and shared or smoked up with friends. From what I was told was the medical marijuana was not as strong as what they could get off the street. This was 8 years ago, however, and I am not sure how things have changed since.

| Marijuana....Friend of Foe? Posted: 5/7/2007 6:43:48 PM | I have seen patients prescribed marijuana, but as was previously posted, it isn't high-grade stuff. They would be better off getting it on the streets. I have never heard it stops cancer, but have seen the benefits as far as curbing nausea and also causing a bit more appetite in patients who don't eat well. So, it is an ok tool during chemo. Methadone is also prescribed in terminal patients and is used mainly for pain control. | |

| Marijuana....Friend of Foe? Posted: 5/16/2007 8:38:25 PM | I agree with you markinedm, in the end usinge either drug everyday is bad because you are addicted to a mind altering substance. BUT........and a big but, alcohol is a poison to the body, there are no chemicals found in the body that resemble alcohol and thus no receptors for said chemical. Pot on the other hand attaches to receptors in the brain that are in existence because the body produces chemicals similar to THC. Both are harmful chemicals especially in large amounts, but one is more natural for the body and easier to process, And thats THC. Im not spouting off crap, this has been scientifically tested on humans, not just lab rats/mice.
I do not think pot smokers are better or worse than alcohol drinkers, i would rather focus on the drugs and their effects than the people that use the product. Alcohol in large amounts is more intoxicating to regular users than marijuana in large amounts is to regular users. What im sayin is that a vet pot smoker c an smoke all night an might just fall asleep, a vet drinker can drink all night and reach a level of intoxication that is dangerous to themselves and others. When people stop smoking pot, they get irritable, lose appetite an sleep. So do alcoholics, but heavy drinkers can get the shakes and also experience delirium tremens from the withdrawal and that my friends can be fatal, yes, it can kill them. How many drunk driving accident reports do you hear about and how many pot related accidents do you hear about?
Its bad to be addicted to a mind controlling substance no matter what it is, but some are less dangerous than others, all chemicals are different an produce different effects. Heroin is worse than morphine, morphine is worse than codeine, codeine is worse than alcohol and alcohol is worse than pot, pot is worse than caffiene and so on. there are a bunch of drugs in between that i missed but you get the picture, Later.
VERDICT: Pot=friend Alcohol=foe

Im lookin for proof of what i said in my first post because everyone on here wants to see it and i dont blame you. We are all making some bold statements on here. The fact that alcohol is a poison and thc is not due to the fact there are receptors for thc located in the brain and there are not receptors for alcohol is hard to find clearly stated like that. You would have to understand biology an chemistry to understand the articles. If you care enough to really know, youll research it. I have no reason to lie, but im still lookin an if i find the other links b sure ill put them up. I have given the last 6 years of my life to the study of cannabanoids and the plant itself, i know a little something about pot is an understatement. The same goes for alcohol, i have had this debate too many times. If u wanna know somethin message me, good day!

Yeah, there are probably no people on here capable of something so hard as chemistry or biology.
Any substance that isn't used by your body for nutrition is a toxic substance and your body will do it's best to rid itself of it. Alcohol, pot, prescriptions, cocaine, magic mushrooms, etc, etc, etc. What it comes down to is a choice to alter your reality. Some of us choose to keep that within the realm of legal substances, some of us choose to not take anything to alter our perceptions while some don't really care what it is as long as reality is no longer part of the picture. Nitpicking over the receptors in the brain isn't the issue. Was that your first thought when you first smoked pot? I'm guessing no!
OE: you can't really think the spider video was meant to be serious!

| Marijuana....Friend of Foe? Posted: 5/17/2007 5:47:25 PM | i am a user of medecinal marijuana and was given no other options....i have a fast moving form of MS. I was offered pills and some mouth spray to use instead of smoking but i find that much more effective. I also suffered with addiction as a youth and really struggled with the idea of relying on this drug to live in a little more comfort. Ive been retired....not by choice and some people just handle the dope different. I am proud to say im not a junkie but i wouldnt b walking today if it werent for my old friend MARY JANE Lisa | |

| Marijuana....Friend of Foe? Posted: 5/17/2007 6:34:26 PM | Smoking pot is such a waste on me, all I want to do after smoking it is eat everything in the fridge and go to bed. Not sure why but everything is so tasty, even that week old pizza that I was going to throw out is just out of this world. lol Haven't done that in years and won't be doing it again. Just not for me, I know people that actually smoke it like a cigarette, oh well, doesn't bother me at all. Its their choice not mine. They enjoy it, they pay for it, who cares.

Posted: 5/17/2007 6:40:10 PM | not my thing, but I do believe it can help people with chronic pain....I prefer people to not do it around me or in my presence....being in the health care field for over 20 years...there's pros and cons to almost everything...just like there's usually 3 sides to every story.....not into it.....and most people are respectful of my opinion...I don't make a big deal out of it, especially if it is being used for health related reasons...

More of my money goes towards herbal supplements than recreational drugs.
