Nothing wrong with posting photos, we are what we are, we don't all age the same, and it's not one of the things we can really control. i would rather see the real person, and have no problem posting my own photos. You can't always tell a lot from a photo, but it's good to see, especially from the people that smile. love happy people.

You can't always tell a lot from a photo but it's good to see

A friend of mine had an experience recently with a man she met for coffee.
Upon meeting him she realized he was probably 10 yrs. older than his photo. Instead of having brown hair and being clean shaven, he was bald & had a moustache. He also decided to leave his teeth home in the glass that day.
In addition, he stated in his profile that he was 5'10" but was really 5'6". He also stated that he lived in a city 50 miles south of her when in fact he lived about 100 miles north-west of her. His profile stated he had a certain profession....you fill in the blank....and you quessed it...he didn't work at what he said he worked at. So, when she asked him why he hadn't posted a recent pic and why he had been dishonest about his profile (location/height/age) he said he didn't want his friends, family & co-workers to know he was on a dating site.

So, I've learned from her experience that a picture may only be half the story.

exactly right , i had been chatting, for quite a while with this guy , and of course he couldnt back up what was on his profile , and it all turned out as you have learned , luckily there wasnt a meet , age/pic/job/area/, down to having bad health ( not athletic and ready for anything) was all wrong, what annoys me more is that he was still living in the same house as his ex, and being on the site was totally misleading,as being free and single .....you live and learn yea......

"A picture is worth a thousand words" (author unknown)

Maybe not a thousand, but a few hundred...I want to see a photo before I decide to
contact anyone..It is, to me, an indication as to whether or not I want to pursue my
interest.

A recent photo or two, preferably, a facial photo and a full length one, would suit me just
fine.. I won't answer non photo profiles..I have been fooled twice by this, and, I won't
be fooled again..

Fooled twice..Shame on me...

you should still have a photo to give someone a general idea of what you look like.

Well, I do... but they are pictures of some old fat guy with a white mustache and sometimes white beard. I'm trying to cover up that I am really BRAD PITT. I just don't want my significant other to catch me... cause she'll probably ban me to Africa or some place... so the old guy pictures will have to suffice.

Hi Sapphire,
I had to respond to your comment. I, too, have talked to men on POF who had very nice pics posted on their profiles, but when I met them, I had no idea they were the same person. At least 10 years older, and like you said, wizened and wrinkled. I always arrive to meet someone at my best, and I want to make a good impression. I think it just shows respect. To have somone show up in dirty clothing, unwashed, unshaved, and no apologies, whats up with that!!!!
In response to the comment about woman displaying pics of boobs and leg, I have to totally agree with you. I've talked to woman who say men on these websites are all out for one thing, I have to disagree. I think a man will respond based on the way we present ourselves. I haven't had that happen to me. I always am totally honest about my principals and what I'm looking for in my next relationship and men I meet have honored that. If you put yourself out there looking like a ho then thats how men will respond.
By the way my pic is 9 months old. I look just like it.

Wow I am behind on the times, I have an old Polaroid sitting around here somewhere. Do you think if I shake it that the film will still be good?

The photo game, ever notice the amount of pictures , that the person is ant size about 150 yards away or so blurred you can't make out if the person is male or female. About the age of the photo, those glasses from the 50's are a dead giveaway.

sapphire's post sounded soooooooo familiar. a friend of mine just had an almost identical encounter... was your "liar" danny?

it always makes sense to use a fairly recent and accurate photo simply for the reason that i'm sure nobody likes rejection at a first meeting based on their appearance. i put my best shot as my main photo but always include a few less flattering shots so that someone can put them all together and then form their own opinion. my intent is not to mislead.

more like F BI , I R S , Exwife , interpol and C I A were looking for him, and the friends and relatives who loaned him money..

and part of comment in 254 about him still living with ex wife, she probably placed the ad, she was hoping ...

sometimes its a confidence issue ...Im 50 ..i posted recent pics ....I say who likes my look does ..who doesnt ..thats ok too ..because bottomline is i like myself and that is what matters ..a pic is a visual stimulation that creates an image of how we want to portray
our self ..
...my pics are not the best quality pics (they where taken on my cell phone ) ...but just imagine with a real camera and great photographer taking them .. he could airbrush me ..remove my well earned fines lines and make me look like ......a wowow 20 yr old supermodel ...
now imagine that ..

I agree that a pic may not always tell the whole story, you are not going to see every line wrinkle or pimple, from a pic that is just a couple of inches, am sure if someone was looking at me from a few feet away, like the disclaimer in the sales flyers says, actual items may not be exactly as shown. am almost 50 and don't 30 anymore, would not to portray myself as such. but not sure all the flaws are going to show in a pic, but if it is recent, you will get the general idea, But then there is nothing wrong with people posting pics of their earlier yrs if they identify them as such,,,,..

Here's yet another honest woman...check it out. 55 years old...still knows how to laugh out loud...I'm short...I'm round...and if you met me in person, we might fall in love...and then again maybe not. But, we'll have alot of fun. No grouchy's need apply.

Bubba...I'm inlove...I just had to say it after reading ALL of your profile and looking at ALL OF YOUR PICS

LOL....my photos are recent and untouched...however, I know of noone who feels that confident about how they appear to the masses. I've never known anyone who wouldn't like to look better, but as you said...the "older" person being male usually thinks he looks good at any age...female, just feels as though she looks .."old". I find that very few men have recent photos, either....their profile says 53, pic is of someone who could be their son.

Granted, looks fade, but that's something you have to grow into together. Then it isn't so noticeable. Putting a picture of yourself on these sites is basically giving it your best shot and hoping that someone out there likes what they see. Not everyone is pleasing to the eye, but if initial attraction is important, then no one forces anyone to talk to one who isn't what they're looking at....I mean for...lol.

On a final note addressing your statement about legs, I think that people use what they have and if they don't have it now, in the present time, shouldn't show it......after all the person they think they are fooling may be fooling them, as well.

your photo grabs me; youth is not an integral component of incredible sexiness.
