| Photos and the older person! Posted: 6/28/2006 7:53:29 AM | | While I agree that personality is number one, photos are the things that catch your eye. I chatted with someone whose pic I liked, but when he mailed me, someone else's pic was attached to his mail. Turns out the photo he shows on his profile is a lure and while he admits to being 6 yrs older than he says, he is actually about 16 yrs older. How the heck are you supposed to trust someone who lies like that? I won't be meeting up with him, that's for sure. | |

| Photos and the older person! Posted: 6/28/2006 8:25:15 AM | All photo's are welcome. They give the viewer an idea of the person that posted it and a tiny insight into their mentality/humour. EVERYone ages. Do it with dignity! Pop up a normal photo for the profile. Keep any saucy ones to send to someone special No drama. Everyone is happy. I'd rather see any pic than no pic. p.s. If any ladies want pictures to SCARE someone away, i have a couple of corkers lol! | |

| Photos and the older person! Posted: 6/28/2006 8:27:50 AM | Men..learn this one quickly. Women hate men that lie. Dont bother. The bit you're lying about probably doesn't matter to the ladies anyway. Be up-front. Trust me, it WILL improve your chances of meeting the right lady. Jeez..I sound like an agony aunt! | |

Men..learn this one quickly. Women hate men that lie.
That is so true. And this cuts both ways. Your Mama was right: the truth ALWAYS comes out. Is it worth losing a chance at the brass ring? I am blatantly honest. Sometimes it costs me, but if the thing I am being honest about scares someone off, better that happens before becoming emotionally invested. You cannot trust a liar.

| Photos and the older person! Posted: 7/7/2006 7:01:05 AM | OP. Put a pic up, but say when it was taken. Mine is about a year old. It's the only pic of me in a .bmp format. I, personally, don't like having my photo taken. It reminds me what I look like, instead of the mental image of myself I keep. I like seeing the younger/older photos that ladies sometimes place. They looked good in youth, they look GOOD now!!!!!
Scintillating Angel. ^^^
The truth is better. It hurts sometimes, but is better. I try to be honest about all things, besides, if you tell the truth you don't have to keep up with various versions of your 'story'. Now, I may tell a lady that yes, those shoes look great with that dress. (even though I REALLY don't have a clue! haha) But on big things, yeah, you'll get the truth.
With that though, you have to remember. Ask me a question and you will get an honest answer. But, it may not be the answer you want to hear!
That my 6 pence. Scott | |

Message: I believe the point the OP was trying to make was....don't mislead people by letting them assume your photo is current if it isn't. If it's not of you recently, you should say so. Otherwise, it's not really you. It's what you used to look like. It's not shallow at all to demand that people respect you enough to be honest about this if nothing else. I met a guy once that told me he was 49. He sent me a pic of a very handsome, well-groomed, well-muscled cowboy (my personal weakness). This guy's personality suited mine to a "t". We had great fun online and on the phone, so we made arrangements to meet. When he showed up, I honestly didn't recognize him. And then I thought maybe he had sent his father to tell me he couldn't make it. This guy was wizened and looked at least 20 years older than his photo, he had told me he didn't drink or smoke but he had a beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other when he drove up. His shirt was stained and his pants even worse so. And he left our lunch in the middle because I wasn't as "funny in person as he thought I was." Hell no I wasn't funny, I was spitting mad...I might have gone out with him anyway, because our personalities did mesh, but....he proved he was a liar and the King of Denial. I asked him, before he left, how old he really was. He was very arrogant as he replied, he was really 64, but he still looked 49 and he didn't want to be stuck dating a lot of 'old nags.' Harrumph!!!! If our profiles are gonna be considered "advertising" then a WHOLE lot of people should be prepared for some "false advertising" suits! :) (Speaking of advertising, I keep wondering why women put on pics of nothing but boobs and legs and then ponder and whine when men only write them looking for sex) Sapph (whose pics are all a year old, but I swear it looks just like me *grinning*)
(This is my first time trying to quote here so forgive me if I mess up) BUT........ THIS POST ROCKS!

| Photos and the older person! Posted: 8/18/2006 11:19:10 PM | | After hearing all the complaints from men about women who post younger pics of themselves, I was determined to be as current as possible. I got out the old digital camera and just took pics of myself. Of course, I only put on the best ones, not the ones that make me look 100 years old! So all my pics are less than one month old, but it still seems hit or miss to get emails. Sigh...wish looks didn't matter, but the desire for chemistry is all too real for nearly all of us, even if traditional "good looks" don't matter. | |
|
| Photos and the older person! Posted: 8/18/2006 11:31:57 PM | It's not, at least to me, that looks matter. Dang, the last guy I dated made Frankenstein look good. It's the LIE.
I would much rather have someone with a true and good heart over good looks any day. Good looks would only be a plus. It's the lying that upsets me.
And I sure don't see nothin' wrong with putting our best pictures up. Dang, now with digitals I can just erase the bad ones of me, way cool not havin' to pay for getting ugly pix developed of me. hehe

DISCLAIMER - that was total BS above - it was not the hat that made me

| Photos and the older person! Posted: 8/19/2006 6:20:49 AM | Maybe they should include a category when you fill out your profile stating how recent the pics are that we post? That would solve the majority of the problems I suppose. Although there's be alot fewer pics, I'm sure.
There's also the category that asks about body size/shape/whatever.... I don't think some people answer that one honestly.
I find that I look very different in most pics than I do in real anyway. When pics are taken for display (posed pics), you can angle your head just so to disguise the jowls, and get the lighting right to disguise some of the lines and saggy bits though. lol I did decide to post the one that made me look my worst though, just to be TOTALLY honest. But hey.. what you see is what you get. And I always bear in mind the saying... BEAUTY IS ONLY SKIN DIP, BUT UGLY GOES ALL THE WAY THROUGH!
BTW.. mine are all taken within the last year, with the most recent one taken about 6 months ago (the red hair... It was the result of an experiment that went horribly wrong ). I'm back to more blonde now and feeling more myself... and no, I haven't cut my hair, despite the fact that my mother (she's 89) keeps telling me I'm too old for long hair because I'm a "matron" now that I'm in my 50's. Ugh.... I'm hoping there's nothing "matronly" about my outlook.

"Maybe they should include a category when you fill out your profile stating how recent the pics are that we post? That would solve the majority of the problems I suppose. Although THERE'D be alot fewer pics, I'm sure."

Ah.. that feels much better. (Nahhhhh, I'm NOT a perfectionist)

| Photos and the older person! Posted: 8/19/2006 3:25:11 PM | My photo was put up last week, the recent one, the others are no more than 6 months old. I don't think it matters much, and how do you know if they are recent or not? Just my 2 cents worth :)

Everyone, who is comfortable with themselves, should post a photo. It is a starting point.
It is nice to see what they look like, rather than be embarressed by mailing them and finding that they do not the type of physique that you prefer. Everyone has preferences, whether or not they admit it.(IMHO)
My photos may not be attractive, but, they are recent, and they are me!
I look at photos, and then I go to profiles of the ladies that I would deem attractive. - I am not talking about friends here!
I have friends of every colour, nationality, size, shape, and religion. I am talking about someone I want to spend the rest of my days with.
I would prefer to spend it with a lady that I find attractive, pretty, and/or beautiful..
She may change, after time, but she will remain attractive to me..
My two cents worth..An' I'm stickin to it..
Nice to see you, Redd Fox ..
Peace to all | |

I am happy to note that the majority agree that posting photos is the way to go.
Tell ya what, Prwtlf.. Hard to imagine you looking better than you do now..
But...I have a pic of me, when I was 27, that don't look too bad

It really is amazing that half the people on this site are all secret agents who would lose their jobs if they posted their photos...

I think it would be cool to have ONE pic up, properly labeled, of course, of when you were in your prime. For me it wouldn't be 20's, I was too thin then and looked anorexic, but I have some good ones from my 30's.
Maybe they should include a category when you fill out your profile stating how recent the pics are that we post? That would solve the majority of the problems I suppose. Although there's be alot fewer pics, I'm sure.
I would be very much in favor of that. My main one was taken last September, so it is close to a year old, and the others are up to a year before that. I don't have any recent ones, got to get someone to take some, I hate the "camera and mirror" ones. In the folder where I have the photos I uploaded I named them with the date, like 090905.jpg, but the name gets changed when you upload them.

Colin,
Can I copy and paste that to the 'Humour" forum?
There are a lot who don't post photos, and it makes me wonder..Why?

| Photos and the older person! Posted: 8/19/2006 4:42:52 PM | So I post a gag photo as my lead( no it's not MY truck the picture is on a greeting card) and this afternoon, after quite a dry spell, lo and behold I have 2 new emails... I actually am trying to get something set up for a friend to take some ugly pictures of me, (say after I just got done giving the dog a bath or helping someone chanege a flat tire) But yeah, photos that are 2 or 3 years old, at this stage of the game, might be OK but 8-10 yr old pictures are just dumb. I don't understand quite what the issue with showing a little leg or cleavage is,-except if the last time anyone saw legs like that they were holding up telephone wires LOL! Should we all put on ankle-length dresses and sunbonnets( meaning no offence to any Amish or Mennonite womenfolk who might be reading this)
I'd like to see someone start a dating site where photos WEREN'T allowed and you had to "sell" yourself strictly by the written word... Cindy O

I have been told by several men that they don't post a photo because people may know them. When I get the photos I'm still laughing, what is a stud anyway ?? Classy
