| Is Being Gay Genetically Determind Or A So-Called Lifestyle Choice Posted: 2/14/2007 3:45:56 PM | purely hypothetical scenario
an equal mix of sexually active humans 20 male 20 female
and somehow you could zap the sexual preference conceptions from the brain of all of them (but leave the urge part in place)
What would happen ?
How much is historical conditional imagery & experience ?
my guess is that it would flip around a bit as there was no historical guidance from the society as each person grew up.
masculine / feminine character I think is definitely guided by hormones But then men get a sex change to be a woman and still fancy women & vice versa
My current view is that it is not just one of these reasons (hormones, conditioning, genetics) it can either be one, or many that defines a persons sexuality.
I do also think that some do just toy with their sexuality, maybe down to personality or conflicting reasons from above.
+ homosexuality is not just exclusive to humans http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2004/07/0722_040722_gayanimal.html

I know if it was a lifstyle choice he would almost certainly choose to be straight, far less complications, and he wouldn't be left coping with HIV. Fortunately for him, he has a great supportive and loving family, but it debilitates us all, not just him. Hopefully they'll find a cure soon for this wicked wicked disease.

| Is Being Gay Genetically Determind Or A So-Called Lifestyle Choice Posted: 2/27/2007 4:10:25 PM | oh god I love nature vs nurture
I think some people are born gay and others just turn that way because of external influences ie maybe abuseor first sexual partner was same sex etc. I know quite a few women who are about 40 and had kids who have ended up gay. I also think that sometimes when ppl are vulnerable they can be manipulated into thinking they're gay but someone who is, showing them affection something they possibly missed. I also know from my own experience with friends that they sometimes misinterprete genuine friendship for love or lust thus quite a few of my girl friends have tried it on with me I think and nah they weren't all bi but I am wey heyyyyy cos I'm greedy and like the best of both worlds xjx

He can be quite effeminate, I can hear it somewhere in his voice, the way he moves, and I suspected before he told me. He has lived with his male partner for 5 years and is very happy.
I would say its genetically determined.

| Is Being Gay Genetically Determind Or A So-Called Lifestyle Choice Posted: 2/28/2007 1:31:46 PM | | How is being gay a life style choice, my cousins gay, he's been married and had kids, but, he said, he always felt different he just didn't want to be singled out, when he cames to terms with the fact he was gay, he took a big step and informed the family, all of us in one hit, he did of course get the surprise of his life, as we shrugged our shoulders and asked him if that was it, we do of course take the mick out of him, ask him if he has the right shade of lipstick and does it go with his handbag, but he knows we accept him for who he is, and not what he is, mum and my uncles nephew our cousin and his mum and dads son, and his sisters brother. | |
