| What do you find beautiful?
Posted: 7/1/2006 11:49:15 AM | Out on the water in the late afternoon in Deep Cove, the breath rushing steadily in and out of your lungs, icy shards on the way in and white mist on the way out, even in time with the bite of your oars at the catch and the the liquid tug at the smooth finish. You're in a single, less than half an inch of hull between you and the rushing water, and the fierce concentration you once had to use to keep your handles level and shell balanced has faded with long practice, so the balance is in your centre, not your calloused hands. The water is calm, there's not a breath of wind in the air. The sun hasn't set, but it's slowly reaching down to brush at the tops of the trees on the surrounding hills, setting glass windows afire. You let it run and square your port blade, and as the stern swings around your view shifts from a small, rocky island with a crown of evergreens, to the sloping shores of the cove. The boat house beckons you back with the promise of rest and warm, bulky clothing, but for now you're comfortable in thin, close layers. There's one particular tree on the shore, a king of trees in fact, that's wild with an autumn fire of leaves. There's smoke pumping from a chimney somewhere beyond, and on a slow breath in, you smell that scent what's only there in the autumn, that crisp, faintly spicy scent of woodsmoke. The blue of the sky is gradually deepening, and you once again point your bow towards 'home'. Once you're in and the comfortably routine chores of washing down and putting away have been completed, you know it's only a matter of time until a berry scone from Honey's, a hot shower, and a crackling fire and comfy couch.

Coming down off the nova somewhere near the boiled egg that is the Royal Albert Hall, we watch Paul's sun crossed with John's star and hold ice cream hands.
Someone slipped on a cassette as the one you wanted left with someone else but somehow it was cool because as the music filled the shadows, you heard a sound that was a million miles away from fakery and a step away from your heart.
Just like it always did, this sound puts the swagger back into your step, the rush into your blood but somehow, and I don't know how, they had become deeper, wider, soulful, better at their craft, inspired by so many things like a world that is tilting who knows where and the applause they always knew was theirs but waited so impatiently to receive.
Words cut you from all angles, back up by a monumental sound that rises high, high and high to crash against your rocks and then changes, majestically and magically to soothe the wounds inside.
As you are dragged inside on this trip abandon, you hear a council estate singing its heart out, you hear the clink of loose change that is never enough to buy what you need, boredom and poverty, hours spent with a burnt out guitar, dirty pubs and cracked up pavements, violence and love, all rolled into one, and now all this.
At the end you flip over and start again because now you are not isolated. They have gone to work so that you can go home.
High above the day turns pink and you feel your feet lift above the ground as new roads open up in front of you. In this town the jury is always rigged but the people know.
They always know the truth. Believe. Belief. Beyond. Their morning glory. | |

- God's sense of timing
- a droplet of water on the pointy tip of a pothos leaf
- the song of the mentally challenged man that walks the path in front of my building
every afternoon; heading down to volunteer at the food bank (smiles)
- looking across the valley at 5 in the morning and watching the sun crawl across
Golden Ears and the hills behind Mission.
- the magic of the friendship with the people in our walking club (formed of POF'ers)
- the generosity of K, SS, REM, Indi
- the specialness of OD

Posted: 7/2/2006 9:42:22 PM | the mountains at any time of the year, particularly at sunrise and sunset (love the alpenglow).
july in the mtns, when you wake up with the sun at 6am, grab a tshirt, shorts, a cup of coffee and your doggie and head out for a walk along the trails.
also, the rainy season in the mtns...the most beautiful scene is when the clouds look like cotton being dragged across the trees, leaving the whisps of cloud all over the mtn. to make it even better, be IN that area at that time! everything is so green and clean and beautiful...ahhh...blisses me out completely! | |

there are many many many more things i find beautiful..but right now, this is enough.

We've been spending great times together this summer and she has been helping me through some hard times, I'm so greatful! I find her beatiful and all my friends! Thank goodness for good people | |
