People have been telling me interesting things about Waking Life lately. It sounds like a true dreamscape...so I plan to sit down and check it out very soon.
"The Tingler" (circa 1958), starring Vincent Price sounds fascinating! I haven't seen one of his old movies in ages...and I never heard of this particular one. Sounds quite avant-garde for the time too. Thanks for mentioning the movie...I love hearing about obscure movie titles that are worth checking out.

Po :
The "tingler" was an entity that lived within all humans that would grow bigger and more powerful when it's host was frightened. It looked like a centipede, and it thrived on terror.
William Castle made lots of cool, schlocky horror films in the fifties. He was fond of gimmicks. He would have life sized plastic skeletons fly around the theatre on suspended wires during the scary parts of a film.
"The Tingler" was his crowning achievement. He installed a powerful buzzer in many of the seats in his theatre when he screened it. He would give the occupants a jolt at the creepiest parts of the movie.
"Matinee" was based on him. John Goodman portrayed him in that film.
Oh, and be sure to take a look at the truly creepy "Carnival Of Souls" (1962), a low budget indie by Herk Harvey. It has an almost nightmarish feel about it. | |

Are his films easy to find? I may have to pay a little trip to the Boite Noire (best indie/foreign film source in town) and see which ones of his films they have in stock.
The John Goodman film does ring a bell. I may have seen something about it somewhere.
I love those old cool, schlocky horror films...they are such a treat to watch!

Actually, I have used ebay to good effect to locate hard-to-find films....and got some great bargains too. There are tons of ebay stores that specialize in DVDs, that's for sure.

Good, bad, real, mediocre....what did you think of it? All-time best favorite movie? Worst B-Movie ever?
I'll have to admit I had to actually look this one up...amd who knew that Sylvester Stallone and Henry Winkler starred in a movie together? Hmm...that's interesting!
Seeing as this movie was shot in 1974...I guess you didn't see it recently? Or maybe you rented it/have a copy of it?
Tell us what you thought of The Lord's of Flatbush!
That's the spelling I got from the Internet Movie Database site by the way...interesting that the title was mispelled on purpose.
Inquiring minds want to know why you mentioned this movie!

Well I for one have no interest in seeing a movie about 9/11. Just too brutal a subject matter. But I do enjoy watching Nick Cage's films sometimes....Have you seen Bringing Out The Dead or Raising Arizona? I really liked him in those 2 movies!

| Are there any local film buffs on POF? Posted: 8/24/2006 11:21:59 PM | hey Gilgamesh,
Thanks for your input! :) Gee, it's been awhile since I saw Equilibrium, but I love movies like that. Dark brooding futuristic Sci Fi....lots of fun to watch. I'm not a big fan of Christian Bale, but he was pretty good in this movie.
Good choice! Thanks for sharing!

| Are there any local film buffs on POF? Posted: 8/26/2006 9:17:03 AM | | Last one I saw courtesy of zip dot ca was Cobra Verde, sort of Fellini meets Bergman, Klaus Kinski with a massive case of dyspepsia! I rented it because I so admired Herzog's Aguirre: The Wrath of God... | |
|
| Are there any local film buffs on POF? Posted: 8/26/2006 12:40:43 PM | hey alyosha,
It sounds like Cobra Verde was a truly hellacious experience for you, too bad! I don't think I have ever caught one of Herzog's films so far, but there seems to be lots of good thing said about the collaborations between Herzog and Kinski.
Where do you find Herzog's films to rent? The Boite Noire? Somewhere else? I would be interested in checking out his films some time.
Thanks for sharing!
