Hey ShyTech, Great idea and it sure is a lot closer to good old G-Ville. I'm glad you stuck in there and are having another get together.
Well if this one works out I might even try to have another, either at Illusions or somewhere else, Kat had a good idea of another location.
Wow!!! This thing is really taking off!!!! It's now up to 41 folks. (Hope this place is large enough!!!!)
This place is large enough to hold 240 people :)
I do not drink...so keep the coca cola and sprite coming Baby See ya' there Elden
I'll make sure they are well stocked
THANKS ShyTech FOR PLANNING THIS,I'LL BE THERE.
No problem, I hope to plan another get together depending on the turn out this time.
Okay, for those of you that are asking about motels in the area, this is what I've located for you:
Days Inn- 510 Lane Ave South Ramada Inn- 460 Lane Ave South (904 394-4500) Holiday Inn- 6802 Commonwealth Ave Diamond Inn- (formerly Super 8) 5929 Ramona Blvd Hospitality Inn- 7071 103rd St
Hope this helps! Kat
Thanks for helping out in all the questions Kat, much appreciated!!!
Yea, Jim, you are so right about "the more people, the more fun"! Everyone.......if you have any single friends, neighbors, work buddies, etc.......plan on bringing them along, too. They don't have to be a member of POF to come.....just be single and ready to have a GREAT time with a bunch of fun people!! Kat
Great Idea! Everyone that can bring a friend male or female along please do so, be nice if everyone who showed brought at least 1 friend but this is not mandatory, though it would be nice!!
Hi Kat, Nice to almost meet you lol. Are you going to be there at 8? Is anyone going earlier? Are we going to wear user name tags? Let me know if there is anything I can do.
Well last get together I showed up at 7:00 PM to welcome the early birds and I will most definitly do the same this time, guess you could say the meet up could start around 7 lol but that's a bit early for some people.
User tags would be nice it would be easier for me to recognize the fishers lol, though I will have arm bands once people see me to get them

| Jacksonville Area Meeting August 6th at 8:00 PM Posted: 7/14/2006 3:00:26 PM | Hi All~ I am so excited to see so many of you signing up to attend. This is the best way to meet the people on the POF site........face to face! I just got back from the POF get together in West Palm Beach and let me tell you.......what a great time we all had! Some people look nothing like their picture they have posted.......they look SO MUCH BETTER in person! And, everyone there was sooooo nice!
So everyone.......start making your plans to attend this get together in Jacksonville. We can make it happen! The more that come, the more fun we can have! Be sure and bring some of your single friends with you, too!
Movenone........yes, I plan on being there right at 8:00pm! The last one, it was almost 9pm before I finally showed up, but I'll try my best to be there at 8:00pm this time. It will be nice to meet some women in my age group too, with the same interests.
Okay.........make your plans to attend! I promise.........you WILL have a great time!!! Kat

Kat...I tried to work my way over to you in Lakeland..but you were just toooooo busy;') Looking forward to meeting you here.

| Jacksonville Area Meeting August 6th at 8:00 PM Posted: 7/17/2006 5:39:24 PM | Hi "Ontheloose".... Yes, didn't we have a great time at the Lakeland event? I think some of them may be planning on showing up at this one, too. They said they were going to try!
Sorry.......I stayed pretty busy on the dance floor. I know what you mean......there were so many people there, I didn't get around to meeting everyone either. So many singles in one place and so little time! Sigh!
I'm so glad to hear you're coming to this one, too. I'm working on trying to get more ladies to show up. Then.........the men will definitely come. Look forward to seeing you there!!! Kat

| Jacksonville Area Meeting August 6th at 8:00 PM Posted: 7/18/2006 6:31:22 AM | Hey Kat -- want to meet you and the others who might come to Jax.
You are probably a lot closer to me than Lakeland was, and this looks like fun too, and I am always ready for a party. Oh. Sorry. Meeting. (lol) But this time I know to ask. Is this a smoker's bar? Sorry. I don't like to feel I should need to apologize for being a non-smoker. Or, have to defend why it is very tough for me personally, to be in an enclosed room full of smokers -- even the really cute, and fun ones-- but I think you really do need to advise every one beforehand, so they can make that choice. No surprises! Also, you will have a lot less unhappy and disgruntled ppl posting afterwards, if they know in advance what to expect.

| Jacksonville Area Meeting August 6th at 8:00 PM Posted: 7/18/2006 11:39:48 AM | great idea shytech! i wasen't aware that there were so many people in this area using plenty. i will bring at least one elgible batchler, so make sure you don't miss this ladies. i agree about not tagging ourselves... the "my name is" tag tends to be cheesy. it'd feel like an aa meeting. most of us use pics of ourselves on here anyway. oh well, i'll play along as well i guess. | |

| Jacksonville Area Meeting August 6th at 8:00 PM Posted: 7/19/2006 12:17:46 AM | Charlie Girl: I'm always ready for a party, too! I do hope you are able to come to this one. I'm going to answer your questions about it being a smoking bar or not, but the answer will not be directed at you personally. Just consider this a "Public Service Announcement" for everyone, so that there will not be any confused people.
In the state of Florida, there was a Smoking law passed in 2003 that said smoking is no longer allowed in restaurants. However, this did not include bars unless there's food served. I'm not really sure why so many people were so surprised that there was smoking and drinking at the bar in Lakeland since that's normal for a bar or night club. Now, I don't do bars very much, but everyone I've ever been in, yep.......there's smoking allowed.
I'm also a non-smoker and I really don't care to be indoors with a lot of smokers, but it's something I tolerate in order to socialize and have a good time. It really just comes down to each person making choices.
However.......I can't see it being as bad as it was at the Lakeland event. There were soooo many people there and seems like most of them were smoking. At least where I was....every one around me was smoking. That's why it got so hot....so many people and then they opened the door to let some of the hanging smoke escape.
So, just in case anyone on the list is wondering........yes, when you go to a bar, there will be smoking and there will be drinking. That doesn't mean you have to smoke or drink, tho.
I talked to Shytech and he said he's going to see if we can use the dance floor, too. Some of you that went to the Lakeland event know that I do love to dance!!!
He's added me to this forum as a co-moderator, so I'll try to field any questions anyone has in his absence. Right now, he's working a lot of long hours, so it's hard for him to stay on top of this as far as questions that come up. If I don't know the answer, I'll find out for you.
Oneandonly: Yea, I know what you mean about name tags. However, don't count on being able to recognize people from their pictures! At the Lakeland event, I was shocked at some of these people when I saw them. They looked nothing like thier pictures! Everyone seems to know me right off, so I guess I look like my pictures! The main thing is trying to match up who the Fishes are so we will know each other. Remember.....there will also be locals there at Illusions, too.
Reminder......if anyone has changed their minds about coming, please remove your name from the list on the first page. That way, we'll have an idea of how many are actually coming. If this event is a huge success, I have a couple of ideas of where we can have the next Jacksonville get together outside instead of in a bar. Shytech and I have talked about it. But it all depends on if this one is a success or not.
Charlie, I hope you still come and don't let the smoking keep you away. And....bring a few ladies with you! I'm also working on getting more ladies to come. Kat

| Jacksonville Area Meeting August 6th at 8:00 PM Posted: 7/19/2006 2:40:11 AM | Hey Gal,
Thanks for the warm invitation and your explanation was well taken.
I know of the law, having lived in Florida most of my life and working in the travel industry. But, like you said, whether restaurant with bar or just a bar -- no smoking is allowed if food is served. That's the question and the answer. So whenever these events are planned, just saying bar doesn't necessarily mean, yes or no. And just saying "bar" doesn't describe it either. Is it really a nice club/bar with a separate smokers area? Or a Roadhouse Grill type with no smoking? Or a neighorhood, strip-mall, smokers bar? You should just say what it is; and forgive me, not trying to make a big deal out of this -- just say, without all the qualifiers of, "if you want to have a good time, tolerate it --everyone else does." That makes people like me feel like yesterday's hang-over if we are non-smokers who really do like to socialize and to have a good time -- but cannot physically tolerate being enclosed in a room filled with smoke -- which is exactly what took place in Lakeland-- and I truly felt left-out! And Docs, as fun of a place as it turned out to be, was early on, in that thread, described as --a real Dive! That was later changed to "very" nice place. Docs is a neighborhood smoker's bar. Period! What made it nice were the people -- not the place.
Yes, I know you directed your remarks as a public announcement, but you still made it sound like, sorry, but if an non-smoker wants to meet other Pof'rs and have a good time -- they'll need to stop crabbin' about the smoke!
I am a social animal -- I LOVE meeting new people and LOVE having a good time -- but will have to continue to do so within environments I can safely tolerate. And that's too bad, as I would love to come to Jacksonville and meet you folks; perhaps another time. But I truly do thank you for wanting me to come and for making me feel welcome. I really do wish I could participate.

| Jacksonville Area Meeting August 6th at 8:00 PM Posted: 7/19/2006 1:30:22 PM | Charlie....I'm not sure what you want me to say.
I am not the Host, the one that initially set up this get together, or the one that picked the location. With Shytech working such long hours, I have offered to step in and help with any questions that come up in the threads and to acknowledge people's posts for him. Also, the party in Lakeland.....I wasn't the host of that one either. I only attended that party and had a fantastic time. Hopefully, they are planning another one at Doc's very soon. I met some really wonderful people there and can't wait to see them again at the next POF party.
What I do know from getting to know the hosts of these Get togethers......it's a LOT of work trying to coordinate something like this. Especially when you really have no idea just how many people will actually show up. Will people only sign up and not show......or, will they sign up and bring 5 friends with them? You just don't know how many to really plan for.
Last month, I had commented on maybe planning something outside.....like at a park. Of course, there were several people that came up with negative comments on that as well. They said it was too hot and if it wasn't held indoors, they wouldn't come. Sigh! Most of the big halls, you have to pay to rent and if you charge people, then some won't come. So, all in all, Charlie, I commend the hosts that plan these things. It's a lot of hard work! And, we all know that you can't please all the people all the time....you just can't do it.
With me being such an upbeat person and having such a optimistic outlook on life, I always try not to add anything negative about these get togethers. Negative comments tend to make the party go down hill fast and I don't want that to happen. On the other hand, positive comments keep people interested. But, that's just the type of person that I am.....always looking for the positive side on everything in life. If I see one that I don't think I would enjoy, then, I just don't sign up for it.....period. I see no reason to write on their thead to tell them why I wouldn't enjoy going to it. We all have choices to make with going to which Get Togethers we want to go to and with everything we do everyday. Life is full of choices.
Hey.......Charlie, I have a great idea. Why don't you host another get together after this one and we'll all come to your's? There's no limit to how many we can have. In fact, I think the more we have, the more people we're apt to meet in the different areas of Florida. What do you think? Are you up to planning the next one? Kat
PS......Just for clarification.....I'm a non-smoker, too. (Smile)

| Jacksonville Area Meeting August 6th at 8:00 PM Posted: 7/19/2006 2:28:46 PM | Charlie girl...
And Docs, as fun of a place as it turned out to be, was early on, in that thread, described as --a real Dive! That was later changed to "very" nice place.
I'm gonna have to put my nose in this one.
If you had read the post's all the way through, then you would know that when "DIVE" was used, it was describing a TOTALLY different place, named "LUCKY'S", that happened to be hooked onto the local bowling alley. And I'd also like to add that out of MORE than 225+ people, only a handful, (5 or 6) complained about the smoke/drinking/A/C. Pretty damn good if you ask me. To accommodate all is NEVER going to happen, no matter what you do. Smoking keeps being referred to..... I don't understand why.... There are smokers and there are non smokers. Either way you go, you're not going to make people happy. I say leave it alone. Get on with the next one. IF you're not happy with the event that's planned, then DON'T go. How simple can it be. I'd much rather please 220 then 5.

| Jacksonville Area Meeting August 6th at 8:00 PM Posted: 7/19/2006 9:41:04 PM | | I know its difficult to please everyone when planning an event , but I am so with Charlie girl on the smoking thing. Nothing makes for a more unpleasant evening then being surrounded by smokers, even if they are the nicest people. Most of my friends smoke , but thankfully they are very considerate and take their smoking outside , even in a bar. I know it would be unrealistic to expect this from most folks since alchohol and cigarettes seem to go hand and hand. It sure would be nice for those of us that chose to keep are lungs smoke free but still love getting out and socializing. | |

| Jacksonville Area Meeting August 6th at 8:00 PM Posted: 7/20/2006 10:19:06 AM | To the planners of the Jax meet.
Yes, you are right, cannot please all the people all the time, but I did have the right to my opinion and that is to ask planners to tell all about a place. I think that was an honest question and one that should have been addressed.
Yes, you are right again -- I would love to host a group of POF'rs near where I live. We can all go on an airboat ride on the St Johns -- kayaking on the intercoastal and swim in the Atlantic from a pristine beach (wildlife refuge) -- there's plenty of nice places to hang out to have drinks and to smoke (designated areas) and all would have a great time. Smokers and non-smokers-- alike. All good people.
I have occ. smokers okay on my profile because they are okay! I just can't be confined in a room full of smoke. I think we need to have mixed parties -- some neat people smoke! And we all want to meet them. Likewise, some neat people don't smoke and we all want to meet them too! -- which of course has been my whole point all along, but unfortunately, keeps being deliberately overlooked as a put-down.
YOU can never say that I found fault with any of the people who attended, or any of the bar folks, or of ANY of the people who brought it all together. And contrary to what keeps popping up -- I DID have a good time and I DID meet as many as I could before having to leave.
I will however, bow out of this altogether. I understand that you no longer make me welcome.
You are a nice lady bachelors heaven; my opinion is one that I am entitled to, but I NEVER flamed anyone -- not even you. I am sorry that you took it personally.
Y'all have a great get-together. Oh. I'd already said that.

| Jacksonville Area Meeting August 6th at 8:00 PM Posted: 7/20/2006 11:20:38 AM | I have received personal emails from several people saying that they will be there, but haven't signed in yet. Especially you ladies......the men watch to see how many ladies sign in, so BE SURE and sign in on page one. Generally, the more ladies that come, the more men come, so bring your girlfriends, too! If the situation changes and you see that you cannot make it, there's also a place on page one for you to remove your name.
Everyone that I've talked to is really excited to have the chance to meet other local POF'ers. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions! Thanks, Kat
