No way what Cam Cameron has done to the Dolphin Defence and the offence is a hell of a lot better than Nick Sabin has done to destroy it... Play Offs... Just Wait & See...

You lost a very good player in Wes Welker. I just wish that Jason Taylor would have went with him!

NOT IF YOUR AMERICAN ITS NOT MISLEADING! Soccer is played with the feet. Dont start trying to put our names to your sports, and then try to argue about it.

^^^^^^^^^Sweetie, you're way late on that response. And while I agree that reading the first post should clue people into which sport is being discussed, the rest of the world was calling "soccer" football long before our game of American football was even invented. They didn't put our name to their sport, we put theirs to ours.

^^^^^^one of the best posts i have ever read, coming from an intelligent person, well said

texasangel2382,

we do not put your name to our sport, the word 'football' comes from Europe (Britain) and Football has been played for centuries over here, and the name of football refers to the sport played with a round ball and using the feet.

have you never asked yourself why some teams are named 'Liverpool Football Club, Glasgow Rangers Football Club, Manchester United Football Club, Real Madrid Club De Futbol (meaning Football as our Spanish word 'futbol' is just the way we pronounce Football).

it is you who took our name to name your sport. of course i respect it but your sport comes mainly from rugby

Just out of curiosity where did the name "soccer" come from? I realize we call it that here in North America as to not confuse it with American Football but, whats it's origins?

On a side note I'm a 49ers fan. GO NINERS (haha even though I don't expect much from them this year or for a few that is) Long gone are the glory days of the niners but, I will continue to be a fan!

"where did the name "soccer""

It actually came from the very same english who deride the term. Many years ago Englands football clubs split into two groups(why I can't recall)...one such group came to be know as the Association and their game "association football". Soccer is a somewhat **stardized term for that game.

bowman, don't be so quick to write off your 49'ers. They darn near made the playoffs last year. They showed real signs of being a good, if not young and inconsisttent, football team. Expect them to win more than they lose this year and to give Holmgren a run for his money in that division.

Browns ? not this year and not next year but look out for the Cowboys if Romo turns out to be the real deal the Cowboys will be tough to beat if not they have two 1st round draft choices in 2008 to get what they need to be superbowl contenders. like Jimmmy Johnson said "mark my words and put it in 3 inch letters we will win"!!!!!!!!!!!!!

dbowman,

the word 'soccer' comes from Britain and it is an abbreviation of Football Association (as-SOC-iation).

in the middle of the 19th century, the English used to put the ending 'er' to some sports. that is because rugby is also called 'rugger' (rugg-er).

so soccer is just the ending 'er' after 'soc' from Football AsSOciation, that is all

there were only two kinds of football at that time: Football Association and Rugby Football (the first using a round ball and feet and the second carrying the ball with the hands).

american football or also known as NFL, gridiron, etc comes mainly from rugby, although at the beginning it had some football rules as well.

so that explains what you call 'football' in North America is just a form of rugby to me (with helmets and pads), whereas what i call football is 'soccer' to you.

anyone has the right to call a sport using any name (depending on each culture) but it is fair to say that the word of football comes from the sport played with the round ball and using the feet, at least if we talk about the older sport amongst them.

eman should know, Phillips coached his brokebacks into the ground. He was hired because of his "yes man" mentality. He is a nice guy, to a fault. He has no backbone. He sort of reminds me of Pete Carrol when he took over for Bill Parcells in NE.

Phillips IS a good defensive coordinator though, I have to admit.

american football or also known as NFL

Pedro, while it's true that football does have many different nicknames, it is actually grammatically incorrect to refer to it as "NFL," as the NFL is the name for a league where the sport is played professionally...one wouldn't say that a bunch of High School kids are playing a game of NFL, just as one wouldn't say the same kids are playing a game of EPL-they are playing soccer, or futbol, or football, or footy, etc. There are other leagues where professional football is played: CFL, NFLE, and AFL.

It's much the same as referring to a automobile as a car, but one cannot refer to every car as a Ford.

Considering the development of gridiron as you call it, it would also be historically innacurate to refer to football as NFL, as up until the 1930's, it was the college level that set the tone as far as development, innovation, rules, etc...many great college players -and coaches- of the early era felt that "professional" football was not respectable.

^^^^^^^then under your logic why do you only use the word 'football' to refer to american football?

until 1930 forward passes were not allowed in american football (as it is not allowed in rugby) so would it not be better to call it 'american rugby' or 'american rugby football'?

Pierre, I'm not looking to start another semantics ****-session; I'm just pointing out that calling it "NFL" is grammatically incorrect-not whether or not to call it football. The NFL is not a sport-it is a league that plays a sport...and I can guarantee you that if you were in Calgary for a game between the Stampeders and Roughriders, you wouldn't be too popular if you referred to it as "Canadian NFL."

bullfighting being a ballet? thank you for the laugh, please feel free to have some beers as i will pay them

the bullfighter has a sword and fights for half an hour more or less, it is a beauty and splendid art.

although i admit the bull gets exhausted after being speared by both the rider and 'banderilleros' so the bullfighter finds it easier to kill it.

who the phuck does the bull fighter fight? he has a gang and and they all give the bull a beat down. so calling it bullfighting is as much of a misnomer as football according to "pedros laws of logic" and i'll take that beer. i'm surprised you have any money left after spending on that little fat chick. who shall remain nameless.but her initials are jo

I think Phillips in Dallas will work and work well, the problem last year towards the end came down to how stubborn Parcells was speically on defence. He would not got out of his base 3-4 on 1st down even agains 3 and 4 wr sets and allways go to a cover 2 on 3rd. other teams took advantage of this and Parcells never ajusted. Phillips is a d**m good defencive coach and that is exactly what the Cowboys needs.
