| Writing to Candians from an American a turn off? Posted: 1/2/2007 12:57:16 PM | Hi there leading edge, been here done that. At the time she was in Michigan, I was in Toronto.
There are practical issues to think of before you begin. An hour away means a two hour round trip and a passport for each traveler.
Then there is the Homeland Security scrutiny of 'frequent passage for no commercial reason?"
If it turns in to LTR
there is the sponsorship issue where the American posts a 10,000.00 bond among other things that include green card applications and so on.
Going Canada ward much the same stuff, and after the 'affair' cools, the Canadian may arrive on some sort of watch list? Some of us have furrin' sounding names.
Bummer, dudes.
I heard of the open border system similar to the European thing, but it seems not to be acceptable yet, and full union is impossible, Canadian full bore nationalists cannot count past 10 and thus would never accept fifty new provinces.
The US Senate would never accept 20 more senators from 'away'.
So I ignore Vermonters and up state New Yorkers unless they are really cute.

LOL !!Stupid you ask that.Guess you never fell for anyone yet.

| Writing to Candians from an American a turn off? Posted: 6/2/2007 8:20:56 AM | I tend to like Canadian women better than American women. I find that Americans are more up in your face. I am also "half american" if half american means that you have dual citizenship. | |

| Writing to Candians from an American a turn off? Posted: 12/17/2007 11:23:33 AM | | as an american(actually mostly a vermonter) living in montreal i believe i have a unique perspective. some will find it a turn off and some wont. there is an existing racism against americans that is even greater in montreal. i never even realized this existed until i came here but it does. in montreal there is a percentage of people who dont like english speakers, anglophones or something like that. add american to the mix and a even greater percentage of people will automatically dislike you. the majority of montrealers are wonderful people but it is a sad truth. racism in any regard is ridiculous and frankly i am glad that some people are so willing to express it so openly. just like anywhere you go there are going to be the minority of mentally challenged people who hold on to racial stereotypes. thats life | |

| Writing to Candians from an American a turn off? Posted: 1/1/2008 6:45:34 PM | Hi Slave to Love, I want to renounce my Canadian citizenship as well, because I also am sickened by Canada. I am sickened by the BDC, telefilm and the communist taxes here. 34% on gas, 15% sales tax, 40% income tax. We may as well live under a cross between the USSR and Hitler. Plus our head of state is a throw back to medieval times. The Queen of Canada is nothing but a leeching b1tch, and so is her governor general. There I said it. I am sorry I ever paid taxes to this govt and her "majesty", and boy did I pay. http://www.canadianheritage.gc.ca/jubilee/e-biography.htm Canadians didn't have the balls to beat away the Monarchy and I'll be damned if I stay in this loser country for any longer than I have to. I took this crap for years. No wonder Americans don't want to write here. Thank god I was born and educated in the USA or I would be the same. I drone pion that pays through the nose for sh1t services to the govt. without questioning and without proper representation. | |

| Writing to Candians from an American a turn off? Posted: 1/10/2008 1:12:23 PM | I would hope that the border between hearts in these two countries can always be crossed easily and without fear! As a homeowner in both countries I see some good and some not so good stuff in each one. For generations people have been back and forth and names and ancestries are quite similar. I do think Canadians are more aware of the United States--its history, government and even geography and weather than most US residents are of Canada. Maybe this is because more US stations are broadcast in Canada. I am so sorry--and ashamed that not one Canadian station is carried on cable here---and I am less than 3 hours from Montreal! I would hope that love would have an easy time in crossing the border. A turn off? Heck no--what was that song "love can build a bridge"? Of course there are issues like who moves, distance, etc. But, that would be the same from east coast/west coast within either country. Just give it a chance--it is something we all deserve! | |

| Writing to Candians from an American a turn off? Posted: 2/4/2008 7:51:33 AM | Just about a year after I posted to this thread (#16), it caught the attention of a thoroughly gorgeous Amercan. We began e-mailing, then telephoning, then we met once, and we just spent a fantastic weekend together in Montreal.
I adore her!
Thank you, leadingedge04. We would not have met, if it wasn't for your fortuitous spelling. You da man!
Oh, I guess I should also thank Sammy Davis, Jr.

Most would prefer a local meet, something close by. If travelling 1 hour is ok then I see no problem. Hell, it takes me 35 min to travel 40km from Laval to my place on a good day! In traffic it can take upwards to 1hr.
As for those insulting or critizing the Americans or any other nation or people, try creating a thread on that topic instead of veering away from this simple one.
Cheers | |

| Writing to Candians from an American a turn off? Posted: 2/9/2008 3:38:30 PM | Dear OP
As long as the Americans writing are not Republicans in todays office or Democrats from 2 terms back "Think of Monica" I have Noooooooooo Problem. In fact I have many friends south of the border.
But one has to really think today...What is American or Canadian anymore? Both countries are so integrated and diverse all that's different is the politics. So it comes down to not where you come from but, what & who you are! Cheers to all.
