it actually made me mad....Page 3 of 4    (1, 2, 3, 4)
I have to agree with the OP. This is not merely a controversial opinion, this is a hate crime. For those of you who do not see this as a civil rights issue, I might remind you that homosexuals vote, raise funds for political parties, and have joined the military. If a group of people participate in, and help defend with their lives, a society, why can they not enjoy the benefits of that society like the others? Its true for blacks, latinos, left-handed Mohican beekeepers and gays.
Someone else's EQUALITY does not equal your OPPRESSION.

And at what point do you draw the line between humor (which is subjective) and political-correctness??

When you advocate the denial of rights of a group of lawful citizens. No matter how funny a joke that has the "N" word in it is, I won't repeat it.

Man this went left! I don't always agree with the stickers I see, nor will everyone agree with the ones on my bike (you ought to see the faces when I pull up to church on Sunday!) However! isn't a need to be free and express ourselves in a way that wasn't determined by someone else what this country was based on?
You want to really make a differance? Find out why I got a ticket for having on a shirt on that said "hang up the F***ing cell phone" right after I picked up my bike that was rearended by you guessed it, a blonde soccer mom gabbing on her cell!
Sorry off on a rant, lol. But I personally think cell phones are a bigger problem than my right to express myself so should I just sart a new thread against cell phone?
By the way if you are wondering, my ticket was 52.00 for breaking Tampa's obsenity law and so was the lady's for "following to close" gee...and we are worried about bumper stickers, get a grip!

This is not merely a controversial opinion, this is a hate crime.

"Marriage is a man and a woman" equals to "I hate homosexuals"!!!!!!!!!????????
I know about professional victims, but this is outrageous.

Anyway, since you think the OP had the right to go to a stranger in the street and berate him, would anybody who does not agree with you have the right to go to you in the street and berate you? Or this right only applies to your ideas?

About equality, hetero and homo have the same right: If they are single, they can marry a person of the opposite sex.

Well dearies...let's get a few things straight shall we???

#1-I said I felt like...did not actually do anything-I am not like that and while I do disagree with what this close-minded creep had on their VERY expensive car($80K last I checked)-and it was the ONLY sticker on the car-it is their opinion but it is one that is bordering on racism. There is enough of people judging "different" people in this world and it is SOOOO wrong.

#2-hell no I'm not on meds-why should I be? Because I know there is more to life than the staight and narrow minded? That there is more to life than anyone understands? That I think outside the circle?

And I don't have bumper stickers...you know why? Because there are people out there who WILL pull a gun and BERATE you for having an opinion. You guys in most of your replies have just proved that.

Wow, some people around here have waaaaay too much time on their hands!!! :)

I'm guessing if some people here saw my truck they'd get pretty pissed! Some things on my truck include;
1. Confederate Flag (National flag, not the battle flag everyone knows)
2. Jesus fish (actually on the truck when I bought it)
3. God Bless America Sticker
4. Support Our Troops Magnets

I can tell you this, I'm happy I have the freedom to display what I like on my truck and no matter what, I won't ever put anyone down for doing the same even if their opinions are not my own. I could care less who someone marries but believe if you allow gays to marry and alter the "definition of marriage" then the US government has to leave all those polygamists alone in Utah and let them marry who they want...who should we limit it to 1?

I'll respect your rights and you respect mine. And if anyone ever came up to me berating me in my truck, well I might just have to open my glove box and show them that I also have the right to keep and bear arms! :)

while I do disagree with what this close-minded creep had on their VERY expensive car($80K last I checked)

Once again, this guy didn't say that if you don't agree with him, you are close-minded. His bumper sticker represents his OPINION. You know what opinions are, right? They are the things that each and every human being has a right to have. You are the one that says that people whose opinion differs from yours are automatically close-minded.
And also...what does the price of the guys car have to do with anything? I hate to judge you based on one thread, but you make yourself sound less and less intelligent each time you post.

it was the ONLY sticker on the car-it is their opinion but it is one that is bordering on racism.

Gay people are not a 'race' so racism is not appropriate for this discussion.

Democracies work when everyone expresses their opinion and and the majority of the society sets the standard. It doesn't work when you ignore people that think differently than you and call them close-minded and racist.

You think he's a creep. Others may think you're crazy. What's the difference? And what does the car's price tag have to do with anything?

There is enough of people judging "different" people in this world and it is SOOOO wrong.

Then STOP judging others and calling him "creeps" because their ideas are different to yours.

#2-hell no I'm not on meds-why should I be?

Because you're prone to anger attacks because of trivial reasons?

Because I know there is more to life than the staight and narrow minded? That there is more to life than anyone understands? That I think outside the circle?

To think outside "your" circle is ok. To insult and berate those still in the circle (specially if the size of the "circle" is different for everybody), is not.

And I don't have bumper stickers...you know why? Because there are people out there who WILL pull a gun and BERATE you for having an opinion.

So if you go to somebody who is in his own car, in the middle of the street, minding his own business, and start to shout and insult him, he must simply cow in his car and hear your rant? Would you react the same if somebody went to YOU?

You guys in most of your replies have just proved that.

NOBODY here is berating you for having an opinion on gay marriage. They're criticizing you (NOT the same as berating) because you deny others the same right to having an opinion. Until now, and unlike you, NOBODY here has called you "creep". THAT's berating.

Summarizing:

EVERYBODY has the right to their own opinion.

NOBODY has the right to "to get out of my car and go tell this close mided person exactly what I thought about them and their "sticker"." And if you do, don't expect sympathy if the that person reacts.

And once again...(honestly I think alot of you need glasses) I did not do anything-said I felt like it...geez...guess that even having a thought in this empty blond head of mine means I musta done it.

I just want to thank most everyone from blowing this SOOOO out of porportion to what I was upset about-what I didn't feel was right and for making me out to be a crazy raving lunatic who is now happily whistling as the white coats drag me away-I'm not the one needing meds here methinks-and it really has shown what certain people are like.

Closed minded, racist, and biggoted people have and will always exist worldwide. If I got upset every time I ran into one I would be a very miserable person.

to OP ---- Maybe you only FELT like it, but if a bumper sticker really pi$$es you off that bad, what happens when someone TRULY hurts you or your family?!?!?! I mean, there are a lot worse things to be pi$$ed off about in this world, a lot worse than a bumper sticker. Focus your hatred, racism, bigotry and close-mindedness on those worse things.

And, if you didn't want to have people tell you what they thought about your actions (or THOUGHT of actions), then maybe you should have never posted in a public forum. Or maybe you were asking justification and approval for your action? Or were you hoping to find that ALL people shared your close-mindedness? Maybe you figured that if you told us that we should have been pi$$ed about it as well, that we would have bowed to your wishes, regardless of how we felt otherwise. I don't know, only YOU know the answers to those questions.

And, one other point of thought, although kind of far-fetched ----
Has anyone considered that this is how Nazi Germany got started? By 1 person (or a small group of people) telling everyone else that their opinions didn't matter, that the ONLY opinion that mattered was the one they were told to have.

OR

The Taliban?

OR

The terrorists that destroyed the Twin Towers on 9-11-01? America's opinion was different than what they thought it should be, and look what happened ---- a group of them got pi$$ed off and
get out of my car and go tell this close mided \country/ exactly what I thought about them and their \beliefs/.

This is not merely a controversial opinion, this is a hate crime.

How is it a hate crime?!?!? I mean:
<< If someone has a bumper sticker that says "Girls Rule!!", does that make it a hate crime against men?
<< If someone has a bumper sticker that says "Bush", does that make it a hate crime against Gore?
<< If someone has a bumper sticker that says "God is my co-pilot", does that make it a hate crime against Judaism?
<< If someone has a bumper sticker that says "Harrah's Casino", does that make it a hate crime against Caesar's Palace?

I mean, come on people, the only ones that would view this (or any of the above examples) as a hate crime are the people that we, as a society need to watch out for, because they could be the next Timothy McVeigh or the next Columbine or the next Unabomber.

I think if you truly think about it, what I'm saying make sense, at least to me, maybe someone else. Whether it does or not, it's my opinion. Take it or leave it, but it's mine, made of my own free will. NOT because the OP (or anyone else) told me to have that opinion.

Seeing as how everyone has gotten so riled up and upset over the OP... and I know she's having a good laugh over all this...

Can we please get on with our lives?

You all make very valid ponts but enough with psychoanalyzing the issue. So we all have an opinion that differs from the next... that's what makes us all unique.

diggy03: I don't think we are 'riled up', as you put it. We just like to clarify the hypocricy of the OP and her subsequent posts.

That fact that she can't get her brain around what we are saying (after I have read at least 4 or 5 people state similar sentiments on here) is a little frustrating, but not enough to upset me.

OP: I can't figure out why you have responded twice to say that you didn't do anything to the guy with the bumper sticker after saying it clearly in your first post. We all get that point and i don't think anyone ever challenged you or said you did do something.

Perhaps I should re-read this thread, because it seems to me that the responses have been extremely proportionate. Did I miss the part where people berated you for advocating gay marriage, or pushed their anti-gay opinions?

What I'm seeing here are responses that have to do with free speech (even if not everyone agrees with it) and the relative triviality of a bumper sticker that a total stranger chooses to place on his car.

So she was pissed off at some words and expressed it. Why did it go into attack mode?

Probably for the same reason a lot of them do.

People misread a post. People misinterpret a post.

People get offended by other peoples responses and have to reply.

People are bored out of their minds so they pop in and throw some gas on the fire.

BAN BUMPER STICKERS!!

Abortion rights etc...again-they are close minded enough to not realise the situation a person is in to have to do this-walk a mile in their shoes before passing judgement. Their are abortion "picketers"(for lack of a better word) in my town and yes they make me mad too-who are they to judge? Who gave them the right to shove their beliefs down ANYONES throat???

Well I finally figured it out and was furious! I actually wanted to get out of my car and go tell this close mided person exactly what I thought about them and their "sticker".

you don't see a contradiction here.

displaying what you believe on your car vs. telling people what to believe, and what not to...
