| Tattoos Posted: 2/12/2007 5:19:27 AM | I personally have three tattoos...
a small siamese kitty on my ankle... a small, yet different style siamese kitty on my lower back... and yet another small, yet different siamese kitty on my upper right hand shoulder (I am thinking of getting it redone though...not sure if I like it so much..we shall see) do you detect a theme here? They all hurt like HELL..!!!!!! I like tattoos..but like any art form, I have my preferences in style...not big on swastikas or the like...naked women and pirate themes I am not big on either...I like arm bands on guys with nice arms....some tattooes are very sexy...some are a huge turn-off..it all depends... piercings , well...I differ on this as well...not a big turn on for me...an earring on guys is pretty much my limit....those big rings in the ear lobes...umm....no....I had my nose pierced for awhile...and my navel, but I quickly tired of them...the tongue piercing (sorry) completely grosses me out...a friend of mine got her hoo-ha done and I dunno...she said it really really hurt and didn't really do much.....she ended up taking it out...I am done with piercing...a pair of earrings in my ears is pretty much all I need....

| Tattoos Posted: 2/12/2007 9:21:34 AM | I have a friend that owns a Tattoo shop in Pickering!
I get all my work done there and my tattooist has 20 years of experience.
I just got a stencil tat of a Chinese Dragon, done around my first tattie which is a chinese ying/yang with fire on one side and water on the other. This is on my left arm. My right shoulder has a tat of the Wolf from the Disney Lil Red Riding Hood Cartoon.
I'm getting a tat across the whole of my chest, the center will be of my Regimental Badge, the left side will have a mounted Horse Guard faded to look ghostly. The right side will have a Sherman Firefly Tank also faded to look ghostly. The only piece that will be in color is the Regimental Badge. I'm working on the stencil for this custom piece as I write this !
People if you're going to get a tat done, make sure that you "interview" your potential "inker" !
If he has less than 5 years experience doing tats, then find someone with more experience !

The bet wa sif they won the gold at thier eastern canadian finals, I would get it, well they won and I honered my bet. But also there's also another reason behind it....I have always said if ya get a tat there's got to be a reason for it and what it stands for.

Did you design it yourself? Whats the Celtic wording? Whats the symbol?
No, I didn't design it. It's the Scottish "Armstrong" clan symbol. Wording is "Invictus Maneo".

| Tattoos Posted: 2/12/2007 4:52:26 PM | They will be part of you for life! Do some soul searching, image searching and artist research for sure. I have two, both designed by me and tremendously meaningful, very tasteful and are pretty much hidden except for when wearing a bikini. Even my Mom loves them!
The first one on my top right hip is in honour of my sister who passed away from breast cancer. The second around my belly button is in honour of my Dad who passed away 13 months to the day later. I am proud to display them, I will never worry about people seeing them!

| Tattoos Posted: 2/18/2007 1:20:48 PM | I have a tat on my left shoulder blade of a panther. I would like to get another but still deciding on what and where to get it done. I'm also toying with the idea of starting a family crest/symbol tattoo of a sort. One which I could get passed on to my kids(should I have any). Don't get me wrong I would'nt force a tattoo on them, but for now I think it would be a clever family bonding idea.
I don't mind woman having tattoos, So long as there are not too many. I don't want to get too distracted when there is monkey love going on.

| Tattoos Posted: 2/21/2007 7:45:28 AM | For me they are an expression of art and the persons personality. I do like some of them, tribal on mens arms, celtic designs and very rare unique ones in general.
I have a few myself that represent something very sentimental to me.
Left inner ankle - Seahorse Lower Back - Hip area - Ankh Symbol Top of left foot near baby toe - Teeny Heart Outer right ankle - Foxy , was 16 and they were my fave jeans Right forearm - Very small cross , of course I didn't think then about getting older and working as an adminstrator.

| Tattoos Posted: 3/1/2007 5:09:17 PM | I love my tattoos. I've got a half sleeve on my left arm that's all Japanese inspired work. I plan on sleeving the arm right up to the wrist. I'll be damned if I worry about whether or not it's acceptable. I work tech support, so customers don't know.
I've also got work on my right arm. On my inside right forearm, I've got a tiger standing over a waterfall. I've also got something on my upper right arm. Once again, I'm getting that arm sleeved up in due time.
I've got a Chinese symbol in the middle of my shoulder blades for the year I was born. However, I'm getting a big tribal piece that's going to cover my whole back. Think Tommy Lee and you get the picture.
I've also got tattoos on my right leg. I'm not touching my legs because those suckers hurt.....lol

| Tattoos Posted: 3/2/2007 9:14:10 PM | Frontiersman: Which studio in Pickering does your friend own if you don't mind my asking?
Yes tattoos are addictive. I do agree with what's been said already about making sure you know you want it and the permanence of it. Also there's the same old song and dance about doing your research and making sure both your artist and your studio are reputable. As for pain...pain is relative. We all have our different pain thresholds. Personally I found my ankle hurt more than my shoulder and I always find the outline stings and the filler burns. I have heard the ribs are a nasty painful place to get tattooed as well as your inner thigh right near your bum.
I currently have 2 pieces (you can see them in my profile) with plans for 4 more. My first two are flash with some customization done to them and the next 4 will all be custom done.
Current ink and significance of:
Left shoulder blade: Ankh, wanted it since I was 16. Is my first and favorite one. Will always be special to me coz it was my first. Thought since it was my first that it was ironic given that it symbolizes eternal life.
Outer left ankle: runic leo sign. Represents my elemental self. Nuff said.
Planned ink and significance of:
Lower back: phoenix. To me it says that I can go through hell and go through the fire and burn up. And even after I've burned up I'll rise up and be stronger and better for it. Have had it planned for almost a year. Will be getting it as soon as I save up the cash.
Inner right ankle: lily, my mom's maiden name translated into english means "of the lily". It's going to be a memorial tattoo for my grandmother.
Right pelvis: still life maple leaf. an homage to my heritage and the country where I come from.
The one I'm going to get next...like as soon as I get the bling...even before the phoenix will be a fouled anchor on my right shoulder blade. On a sailing trip I was on I started to learn the significance of certain nautical tattoos. So in the tradition of sailing this fouled anchor will symbolize home and will say to me that no matter where I travel or how far I go I will always have ties to my home and my family.

| Tattoos Posted: 3/3/2007 3:34:42 PM | | Fortunately I am picture and piercing free, I've never felt the urge or could think of anything I'd want to look at for the rest of my life. | |
|
| Tattoos Posted: 3/3/2007 5:29:16 PM | I like them on ladies when they are hidden or can be shown only when one feels like it. Lower back, shoulder blade, ankle etc - those areas are all ok.
THat said, I have none, I have thought about it, but have never been able to make that commitment (am I commitment phobic??? lol)
Anyway, I can take them or leave them - unless they are everywhere, then I would have to leave them. Inconspicuous ones are sexy, but there is always such a thing as too much.

| Tattoos Posted: 3/3/2007 6:08:32 PM | | I got a tattoo when I was 32. It was the same year that my mom died and I seperated from my husband. I got a lily (for my mom, was her fav. flower and mine) and I got a butterfly to signify my freedom and beauty. Whatever you get, I have to agree with other posters here, make sure that it means something to you, because it ain't goin' anywhere, anytime soon. | |
