I recently got a "rosary" on my back (left shoulder blade to be exact). It didn't hurt but more annoying I found.

Your right its is "ALL ABOUT THE PAIN" I have 7 tattoos and I love the feeling of getting tattooed.I plan on getting alot more tattoos in the future.Everyone feels pain differently and it does make a differance where on the body you get the tattoo and also on the artist doing the work.My next tattoos will be black light tattoos(can only be seen under black lights). Then I will definatly look like some kinda freak at the bars.

I have one that starts in the middle of my back, goes to my right shoulder, then trails down my right side, all the way to my tailbone. It is not done yet, but a huge beginning:)

I love tattoos, think they are hot on most people....the one you are going to get (OP) is very common with women, and very attractive (i think anyways). The only reason I started mine where I did, is because it was a coverup from one that I had (which turned hideous) when I was 16. As for pain...well, mine was a cover up so I had a lot of scar tissue, hurt like hell..but I actually found the worst of it, was down around the sides, closer to my waist..Yeowch.....

I'd love to get one, but I'm scared I'd be too impulsive and get a giant skull or something

i have one on my ankle.. it was a breeze to get done.. and a total biotch to have it touched up.
one on my chest bone.. its small.. so it really wasn't that bad.
one on my inner wrist. that one hurt like hell. OW. and it didn't take long at all
one on my hip.. didn't hurt at all.. took bout 3 hours.
my lower half of my back.. took bout 5 some hours.. and it hurt. lol. like.. pretty bad.
and one on the back of my neck. and it wasn't bad at all.
now im starting a sleeve soon.. and im really really excited about it. and well.. pain is just kinda part of the process.
i think the spots you have chosen are good spots for if you want to hide them you can.. show them you can.
I could care less if mine are hidden. I love my ink. it makes me feel pretty. :)

LOL!!! I think I am pretty good with pain I did experience child birth "oh natural" no drugs at all. So I think i might do good.I plan on getting 3....my lower back, the back of my neck betreen teh upper shoulder blades, and between my hips. I don't know anywhere that I myself find appealing.

I know I shouldn't but i am always worried about what others "moms" may think of me.

well i have two pieces ..one on each arm..im planning more, but im such a perfectioist theyre not ready yet...and by now theyre almost 22 yrs old ..first thing ya gotta remember..its permanent... as for placing it comes down to who do you want to see this tattoo....shoulders, upper backs are best as are legs (ankles usually) are all prime spots girls prefer for the ability to "hide" the artwork if needed

also, i just read in last weeks toronto star this kerfuffle here now with nurses refusing epidural needles to pregnant women who have tattoos on their lower spines (yes even a two inch butterfly got refused) for fear of driving ink and other foreign bits into the womb

as for any tattoo...care is of the essence..its going to itch but get over it..you CANT scratch it.... a good medical ointment is good for healing it (polytopic or polysporin) as opposed to say natural cures like vitamin e and or aloe as both of those will suck the colours out, and keep it covered with some kind of saran type wrap when you shower, and keep it out of the sun for at least two weeks..happy inking

I have 2 of them. one is the grim reaper holding an hour glass showing that your time is almost up. The reason i got is was just for that reason being that nobody is here forever and we could go at any time and has nothing to do with satan worshipping which many people automatically assumed..I even had to take my one pic down because people automatically assume the worse.

The other tattoo is of cartoon character Yosemite Sam that I had done over 10 years ago simply because I like his attitude and get a kick out of him.

JessElise, don't worry about what others think, it's your body. I had my own reasons for getting them done and it was a shock to some people, but they got over it.
Just took me awhile to find the right design and artist. Being extremely fussy as it is permanent, I tried henna first to make sure it was what I wanted to do.
I talked to a few different places, went shopping around until I found a place where I felt comfortable and finally had it done.

Thanks bluedew, I will definitely be looking around for another month or so, I've already found the place, and met with the people there. I've always thought about it but people were like "you are a mom" you got to be a role model....lol.....you're right for some people it just takes time to understand.

I have 3 tats in total, but since they’re all together it looks like one. The first one I got was a little heart on my lower back off to the left side (since I can’t really see it, I always forget which side it's on and end up twisting and turning trying to see it lol). Then I got an identical heart next to the one I already had. That was about 5 to 6 yrs ago. Last year I started to thinking that I should add something to the 2 hearts to make them stand out a little more, I felt they were just too tiny, so I had a tattoo artist custom design a side view of a butterfly and the 2 hearts fit nicely inside one of the wings. It’s a little over 6 inches long and took about 50 min to do. Most of the time it felt like a very mild electric shock but the lower she went the less it hurt. The tat reaches down to my butt cheek and since I have lots of flesh down there, it hurt a lot less lol.

Placement of tats depends on a lot of things, personal preference most of all, but you also have to take your profession into consideration.

Good luck with your tats

PS I'm a mom and my son thinks my tat is cute

Im a mom. and well yeah.. like I said, I have a handful and going to get much more.
me being exactly who I am.. is the best influence I can be on my child.
My kids are really the most accepting kids ever! and I love that about them.
judgements reserved for me because of my ink, are nothing more then a bunch of idiots that dont know SQUAT!
my ink does not mean.. im not responsible, it doesn't mean im not kind and giving and loving. It doesn't mean.. I dont have the house, car, dog, cat.. 2.5 kids and all the other things people have. it just means.. Im a bit more colourful then most. :)
Always remember, tattoos are or should be put on you.. for you and no one else.... if you are judged because of them.. those are the people you dont want in your life anyways. :)

Myself i have fourteen tattoos to date. i've just started collecting old cartoon characters. At present i have tweety, huckleberry hound, mickey mouse, mighty mouse, casper the friendly ghost(new this week), betty boop. I draw the characters , and my son is tattooing them on me. I have a design on my left shoulder i drew up with my sons names in it. my right shoulder is the montreal canadiens symbol complete with the years they won the cup, and a few others.

well lets see if they are an extention of ones self , and being that i'm putting cartoon characters on myself, does this make me looney tunes, or just plain daffy. Luckly for me in my line of work it's acceptable.

LOL.. In MY opinion..an extension of one's self...meaning why we got the tattoo and what the tattoo is and the meaning of it..as it is permanent..THAT'S what I mean..so you like cartoon characters..obviously they mean something to you or ya wouldn't have put them on there permanently..not saying you are looney, a clown, a joker...on the contrary..and in my line of work as in with the public..appearance is everything..meaning in MY job..MY work persona...It does not go over well with MY employer ..simple as that..

Just my two cents worth..

I have 2-the goal was one a year but I missed last year so I guess Im gonna have to do 2 this year lol.
The first was a baby dragon from the Robert Munsch books with the sign for cancer on its haunches-represents the chinese year and regular month of birth for my son.
The 2nd also came from the Robert Munsch books-Flutterby-and she is on my lower back(yeah that was lots of fun)-if you've ever read the story it totally represents me.
One of the ones this summer will be a lion-representing my month-seeming to be attacking out of my shoulder with the chinese year of my birth etched in his mane. I've been working on the drawing of this one for a while.

I'd also like to get an ankle bracelet one-heaven't decided on a design yet-but thoughts are filling my head. I like the idea of it being words or perhaps a very powerful quote.

i'm drawing up the musical notes from a line from the song freebird to put on as an arm band. the line is "if i leave here tomorrow will you still remember me". It's my favorite song. The cartoon characters, are something i have always been facinated with, they way they were done years back, and simplicity of the drawings. looney well in a good sense i am, it represents the child in me, and they fun i enjoy

I haven't got a tat yet, but considered it as a sideline biz. I have a friend who has (I think) 17 to date, three of which are cover-ups that I designed. Kinda cool to see your artwork on somebody's body. He was going to be my guinea pig while I learned, and the deal was going to be he bought the gun for free tats.
My thing is I know if I start getting them, being an artist I know I'll have to expand them and prob'ly won't be able to stop! (Ithink) I have a pretty good pain tolerance, so I'm not too worried about that. It's more a "where to start?" thing.

well i have a few tattoos and they do hurt anyone saying diff is full of shit some hurt more then others because of the area when your getting needles pocked and dragged over your skin ummm yea it hurts but i think of the finished look and that takes away from the pain ,i have a total of 8 and yea they all hurt but if it was real bad i would have only gotten 1 , i love women with tattoos its what i find an easy way to walk up and talk to her and they look good in the right places

I still say it's the artist doing the work. I have a dragon on my low back right up my spine and it didn't hurt at all.
But then again, men don't give birth, must be their low tolerence to pain.

Only 1 of my 7 tattoos caused me a little pain. It was the zipper I had tattooed over a scar from where they took my kidney out that I donated and the scar hadnt fully healed

Tattoos seem to provide a safe ice-breaker as well. Everyone that has one likes the attention it provides....otherwise they wouldn't have one I suppose. It's easy and polite enough to compliment a tattoo.

WOW designing one is hard I am always changing something about it!!!! And yes some tattoos do attract attention cause they are nice to look at. I've complimented many tattoos....I have seen several really nice ones...but I want my own. It'll represent a part of me and no one else.
