| Tattoos Posted: 7/21/2006 2:28:52 PM | | when i got my first tat the first thing that came to mind while trying to compare the pain factor was getting scratched by my cat over and over and over again. i have an extremly good pain tolerance, but it wasn't the pain that bothered me it was the anoying feeling of continual scratching that started to get to me, specialy when he was doing the inner forearm. getting a tat has a feeling of its own, some people actualy like that feeling. as for me i'd like to get a couple more, for the art and not the anoying pain. and a good advice for anyone getting a tat, take the time to get a unique one. there's nothing more corny than metting someone that has the same tat as you. be original and make sure that it's the one you want, they don't wash off and it cost a fortune and leaves nasty scars if you chose to get it removed. | |

| Tattoos Posted: 7/22/2006 1:01:20 PM | I like the tribal tats on guys! So hot!!! I have 3 tattoos (shoulder, wrist and lower back) and they didnt hurt one bit Actually, the one on my wrist bled a little For me, the most appealing place for a tattoo on a man is probably arms and for woman on their lower back. | |

| Tattoos Posted: 7/22/2006 5:41:31 PM | I don't know if you already got your tattoo but if not I'd like to warn you that even the fleshy area hurts. I actually found it more painful than the spin area. Also remember that when you get pregnant you might get back fat which yes means stretching. I'm not in the possition to talk you out of it considering i have two myself, one lower back. It's not hard to hide. I hope this helped Cheers | |

| Tattoos Posted: 7/23/2006 9:16:58 PM | Hi Jesse! you've experienced childbirth? no problem then. Isn't it a well-known fact that women have a much higher pain tolerance than men? I like to think so.lol! CheekyCheeca said it best here. Do it for yourself and ignore what others have to say. They are an extremely personal thing. I picked one of the tougher spots for my first one. It's down the top of my foot from the top of the ankle to my toes. Absolutely no flesh there! You'll find after the initial shock to your body, your endorphins (or whatever) zap in..maybe it's adrenlin? Ever had a waxing? Remember that first "pull"? When you wanted to scream "Holy Mother of God!!!!" but by the next, and the next, it all calmed down? It's much the same with a tat. The only thing that bothered me in my experience was trying to put a shoe on for about a week. As far as a role model and what other "moms" think? I'll be going with both my kids in August to get theirs and one or two added to my bod..we're making it a family thing. They both designed their own and they'll have meaning to them. They are both old enough now to make that decision. So Jesse, don't worry about what other people think. Do it for personal reasons. But beware! The saying you'll hear about once you get one you'll want another...it's truer than you'd think! (Personally I'm tired of seeing tribal. EVERYONE has them). That's my 2cents for what it's worth. Pinky (ahhh poop...sorry 'bout the typos folks..i didn't proof it and I've had no sleep) | |

| Tattoos Posted: 8/18/2006 8:15:14 PM | I just found this thread so i thought i would add to it. I have over 30 hrs of work done on me so far and have an additional 3 hrs coming this weekend. My first tattoo was of a wolf sitting on a mountain howling at the moon on my left arm (done by DABZ...r.i.p.). The next one was my eagle on my right arm with a buffalo skull. After that i lost track of which ones came next but they are slowly morphing into full sleeves. On my right forearm i have a grizzly bear, a grizzly paw imprint and another buffalo skull with arrows behind it, a sun and feathers below. The eagle on the upper right arm i added some tribal work and a dreamcatcher behind it. My left arm is my wolf arm, the original wolf tattoo on the upper arm i added a wolf paw ying yang dreamcatcher above it-all my own design. On my left forearm i have a wolf to man shapeshifter, a wolf coming out of the smoke and a couple of paw prints. On the rightside of my chest i have a thunderbird flying over the sun. The left side of my chest is probably my most painful one yet but is the one i am most proud of, it is my own drawing of a Mama Totem Bear with cub as a tribute to my moms memory. Most of the work i had done were either of my own or partially my own designs. I have a 16 yr old daughter who was begging me to let her get one and finally i gave in because i know my daughter and she might just sneak somewhere to get one done, so i took her to where i go so as to make sure it is done safe and proper. She got a mermaid on the right side of her ribcage and didn't even flinch, the artist said she takes after daddy as i have yet to flinch. She originally wanted it on the small of her back but with all the news on that spot lately, i talked her out of it. Anyway for those who read this and are thinking about getting a tattoo be warned as they are highly addictive and for those who have them well you already know how addictive they are. | |

| Tattoos Posted: 8/18/2006 10:39:53 PM | I have 5 tattoos and have been considering getting more. | Tattoos Posted: 8/19/2006 8:44:52 AM | So... i am booked to get my forarms inked.... Now .. my back stung like a nest full of hornets... and i am a little aprehensive about the forarms ;)
Has anyone had that done and can compare the pain to the back? This is the inside of the arm from elbow down to the wrist ....
|
| Tattoos Posted: 8/19/2006 8:49:23 AM | | When i had the underside of my forearms done the pain wasn't that bad. I have none on my back but i would think the pain would be considerably less as you would have less things to irritate the tat during healing. I am booked for more work tomorrow on the opposite side of my upper arm, now that one i am a bit worried about. | |

| Tattoos Posted: 8/19/2006 10:18:14 AM | I have a natural tattoo that's on my leg and it didn't hurt when I got it | |
|
| Tattoos Posted: 8/19/2006 10:24:28 AM | Hey thanks Pinky!!!!! and Robearon thanks for the offer.
I have always thought about the lower back stretching, but considering I didn't get any stretch marks I am not so worried.
I am still looking at different design patterns in the middle or creating on just for Me

| Tattoos Posted: 8/19/2006 1:16:26 PM | WARNING! WARNING! LOL.. once you get one you will want more!
I have 3 now and getting another done next week, about a 4 hour job. My advice to anyone is .. make sure what you put on your body MEANS something to you now and forever. Tats are not a faddy thing.. they are there for life.
As for the pain, another poster described it to the "T", the nerve endings is where is hurts the most.. and also the smaller the needle seemed to make the pain heightened. I just had one done on my calf down to my ankle and that part was painful, just about jumped off the bed. Its all good now and looks great. The next one is going to be a challenge .. pretty big and covers the shoulder.. I am looking forward to it though.
Have fun and get something you like oh and get an artist you trust and ask lots of questions about hygene and what tools they use etc etc..

| Tattoos Posted: 8/19/2006 8:37:08 PM | I have about 10-12 hours of work done on my lower back and, overall, it wasn't bad. my artist was pretty impressed with how long I could sit for on my lower back work - I guess she tattoos a lot of girls that wuss out?
I also have a small tattoo on my foot that I expecter to hurt like a f*cker, but really wasn't bad at all.
You can see both in my profile.
I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE tattoos. There is basically nothing hotter to me than giant, traditional style pieces (pinups, pirates, etc.) Bonus points for sleeves.

| Tattoos Posted: 8/19/2006 10:20:24 PM | I'd like to get a small Chinese dragon somewhere, all in black.
It's one of those "I'm going to do this some time" things that involves time and money.
But I'm definitely going to do it!
Kudos to all of you for braving the needle and expressing yourselves.

| Tattoos Posted: 8/20/2006 2:53:20 AM | In total, I have over 14 hours of time put into my tatoo's. Which, one would assume that I'd be covered with tattoo's, yet I'm not. No one at work knows about my tattoo's, and most of my family still doesn't know that I have as many as I do. Why? More so by choice. My tattoo's can be covered without really trying to cover them.
I have ink on my... Lower back Between my shoulder blades Top of my left foot Top of my right foot Back of my right ankle Around my belly button Outside of my right hip Outside of my left hip
I honestly don't really know how most guys take it once they find out that I'm tattoo'd, but at the same time - to be honest I really don't care. Each tattoo that I have, I am extremely happy with, and has some sort of deep meaning or reminder of who I am and where I've been in life so far.
Out of where all I've been tattoo'd, the only real painful spot for me was the top of my right foot. The artist told me that one side of your body responds to pain more so then the other, which would explain why my left foot didn't hurt one bit, where as my right foot did.

| Tattoos Posted: 8/22/2006 4:03:32 PM | | I have one tattoo of a tiger's head on my left shoulder balde, there is a pic of it in my profile. I plan to get more some day. If they are tasteful then you will not regret them later in life. | |
