Jack I know plenty of educated women with stretch marks, that is the dumbest thing I have read in awhile.

maybe the standard of pre-natal education is 'different' in Tacoma then in NYC.

| .........Stretch Marks........... Posted: 7/13/2006 7:49:15 AM | Some people skins is more likely to stretch out. DUH It is not rocket science. Depends also on the weight gain, how fast or how slow. Many things go into play...NOT ALL OF WHICH ARE CONTROLABLE. Grow up old man. | |

| .........Stretch Marks........... Posted: 7/13/2006 8:57:31 AM | well, it seems there are some ways to reduce the appearance of stretch marks, by up to 20% in both wideth and length of the mark with various rub on lotions. namely "tretinoin cream", but only if you are not breast feeding a baby. it's not clear as to if after it's absorbed into the skin, if its secreted through breast feeding... so it's a clear thing that is avoided in nursing moms. its the only thing I can find that actually proven to reduce stretch marks.
also, theres a form of laser therapy available by dermatologists that can do alot to reduce or remove various types of stretch marks. theres also new forms of lasers that help stimulate the skin to produce more collagen in areas near stretch marks... which is rather interesting, cause among the other things I learned... collagen is connective tissue that gives you skin it's stretchyness. rapidly expanding skin, gets stretched faster then the skin can produce collagen... and scars form.
but after all I just read... one thing every article seems to mention...
most stretch marks go away on thier own over time, or atleast drastically ruduce in appearance
I get way too curious about stuff sometimes...

| .........Stretch Marks........... Posted: 7/13/2006 9:25:29 AM | I know from personal experience that the application of certain cremes on a consistent basis from the beginning of pregnancy WILL prevent stretch marks. None of the woman in the crowd I hang out with who have had multiple births have stretch marks. They are all very educated women. Maybe the ignorance was on the part of jennlo before she became pregnant.
Take it easy Jack, not all men and women are as lucky as you and the babes you tend to hang out with.
Although I will agree that they can be prevented to some degree. I also know this from personal experience.
As I was growning up and hit puberty, the girls blossomed really quickly leaving some stretch marks. Now when I was pregnant, I was totally afraid of the massive marks I had seen gracing some women. So I used a product called Jafra. I don't know if they make it anymore but it'd be worth it to find out. I used a combo, the night cream and I think it was some kind of hormone cream. I greased my belly up, morning and evening, than while I was tanning I was using Hawaiian tropic oil. So your point although way to blunt for the public in general is well taken. I only got 4 small stretch marks on my stomach and they are so low they are hardly noticable.
Even though my weight has fluctuated over the years a bit, I have hardly any, so the oil does help.
BUT........... as women......... all of us have different types of skin, different elasticity, I count myself incredibly lucky and as you can see there are many women who used the oils and creams, some helped and some well........... didn't.
Don't be such a pompous knob Jack, no-body is perfect, lucky????? Maybe, but not perfect.
maybe the standard of pre-natal education is 'different' in Tacoma then in NYC.
Jack...... I see you're still an arrogant a$$pipe, I AM FROM TACOMA, so maybe you should keep your elitist opinions to yourself. Pre-natal care and knowledge ANYWHERE, comes from the woman seeking it and by the way.... that was 25 years ago. As our young friend fitnessbunny would say.......... DUH!!!

Not true. We see them. We just admire them as a sign of your motherhood. You are a life-giver. And that is an amazing thing.

Speaking from experience....my priorities before, during and after my pregnancy, was the health of the baby. So any creams that were not inert were not an option and I would suspect that any sane mother would do the same. I would have a hard time respecting any mother that would forego breastfeeding due to the fact that they wanted to apply some cream to 'reduce' the visibility of their stretchmarks by only 20%, which were inevitable if their skin was not elastic enough. Given that the stretchmarks that cause the most insecurities are the ones that turn a pregnant womans belly into a road map, that cream is essentially useless.(I believe you were saying that in your post griffen, just didn't come across strong enough if you ask me, which nobody did I know!)
Keeping with the priorities theme.....the laser treatments sure sound like the way to go but once again, as a mother, when faced with the option of feeding and clothing your children and ensuring that money is saved for their education and the continued costs that even the most prepared parents couldn't possibly have planned for, the cost of laser treatments are pretty prohibitive(hmm, just how much was that cream anyway!?).....so we still have the problem of skin that doesn't stretch, unsightly marks, women's lowering self esteem and more and more men who desire perfect flat tummies on their woman, even after she sacrificed her beautiful belly to have his child.
I personally think the answer lies in women having their own personal airbrush artists who will fuzz out their stretchmarks, just like the babes in playboy and on the pages of cosmo.... Oh, yeah, that might be a tad expensive too.....
as previously stated,it's just a bit of stretched skin, get a grip folks. (it is nice to see that there are some quality men, with realistic expectations! kudos!)
|
| .........Stretch Marks........... Posted: 7/18/2006 8:52:15 PM | | ok, stretch marks rip from the inside out.....therefore there is not a whole lot of sweet *&%$ all you can do about it. Cream doesn't really work, the people that use it and don't get them are just the ones with more elastin in their skin. Suck it up princess, no big deal. If someone doesn't want you because of a mark on your body........*&%$ 'em. | |

| .........Stretch Marks........... Posted: 7/18/2006 10:07:58 PM | | well....since I don't have anything to loose, I will give my opinion....one thing you ladies....have to realize........is that MEN DO NOT SEE WHAT YOU THINK THEY SEE!...I know many of you you will judge me....but just bear with me for a moment....typically....women are very "detail" orientated.....where men....are usually...seeing things as a whole/////not so much details......men see an hour glass and they are turned on.....women see tiny wrinkles....and are appalled....take alook at the movie....as good as it gets....see the wrinkles.and stretch marks....they are beauty marks... I love older women.....women in thirties.....are hot........but in their forties./////wooooooooowwwwwwwww and fiftiessssss....encredible....and any man that says different........is not worth their salt//////to blow him............AWAY | |

| .........Stretch Marks........... Posted: 7/18/2006 10:32:14 PM | This is an excellent question. To be honest, it never occured to me to feel badly about my stretch marks until I dated a man who had never been married and had no children. I wasn't sure he'd be thrilled with them. After our first time together, I asked him if the roadmap on my tummy bothered him. (He's a fitness buff whose body is hard and beautiful.) His answer? "Well, I wondered if you might have been involved in ritual scarring at some point in your life but it's not going to stop me from enjoying your body." I cracked up. Never once in our time together was my weight or the flabby stretch-marked tummy an issue. He knew I carried three children to term and had three sections. Not an issue. He even enjoyed playing with the stretch marks - letting his fingers trail over the ridges - as part of the magic of great foreplay. He openly kissed my tummy on his way to other places too. :-)
None of my other partners has ever said anything and the one I've enjoyed the most loves to look at me openly. It's quite the turn on. I'm guessing he wasn't too concerned with the marks...he was too busy thinking about touching the rest of me. lol.
Honestly, the best thing to ever happen to women was the advent of those reality shows where they redo you. I don't mean because we should all run out and have cosmetic surgery but because we get to see that other people have saggy bellies or other issues, just like us. And isn't it great? You're NORMAL.
|
| .........Stretch Marks........... Posted: 7/19/2006 4:24:50 AM | Normally no. Lets face it as a man gets older and so do the ladies they date then they are bound to have had children and therefore stretch marks. Its normal.
Of course having a perfectly flat stomach is the 'ideal' but not realistic.
Jonathan.

Stretch marks are not attractive and yes they are preventable with the proper care during pregnancy.
For some it works and for some it doesn't. That’s an unfair assumption to make. Everyone’s skin is different... You can butter yourself up all you like during pregnancy...and it works for some people, doctors will recommend some things Ie. Coco butter cream and what not but for those the do not have great elasticity in their skin it's a futile attempt, all you do is smell nice and feel like a greased piggy, but you will have super soft skin and the rubbing on the belly, thighs and hips is soothing for sure...
