Posted: 7/12/2006 1:26:12 PM | I have a webcam and recently deleted/blocked someone because the first thing they said in IM was... "Do you have a cam"? Not... What's your name. Nice to meet you. How are you. What's your favorite color, etc. (of course HE didn't have a cam)
And I sure get tired of men thinking I want to watch a "rooster show"
My cam is for the sole purpose of having a great discussion with someone while watching/displaying facial expressions and manerisms. It's nice to see who you're talking to. | |

I have a cam. When I talk to somebody, I generally turn it on automatically. NO, I'm not wanking - my computer/office is in the living room, and there's a small matter of a 16 year old daughter running around here. I turn it on so that whoever I'm talking to can see that I am who I say I am.
Any idiot can say anything. But it's a lot harder to lie or deceive when you can be seen - few people can control their body language to that extent. And as a matter of fact, I seldom talk to anybody more than once or twice if they *don't* have a cam, for those reasons - it adds a LOT to a conversation when you can watch somebody giggle when you say something funny, or see them think when you say something they never thought of before, I can see that they are who they say they are, and it's more difficult for them to deceive.
Yes, I've talked to girls who've shown me their boobies and pink bits. And I've talked to girls who *haven't*. But then again, I've also been asked to show myself fairly often, as well, so it's not just an "all guys are pigs" thing.
I talk to people with cams because it's a more COMPLETE conversation. Simple text doesn't allow you to convey subtlties very well, and inflection is non-existant. Seeing the person on the other end adds those things, and makes misunderstandings much more infrequent. | |
