| Is Rock and Roll dead? Posted: 1/1/2007 8:29:34 PM | Just when people think that rock is dead, a band like Van Halen or GNR or Nirvana will break out and capture peoples attention and imagination.
I was still in high school when VH exploded. It was right in the dark days of disco. I mean geez, even The Stones and Rod Stewart were doing discofied tunes. Van Halen came out with an attidude and gave rock the kick in the ass it needed at the time.
Rock will never die. | |

| Is Rock and Roll dead? Posted: 1/24/2007 5:26:33 PM | Rock and Roll ain't gonna die!! (ac dc)
New bands like wolfmother are appearing and doing what groups were doing many years ago. The great thing about rock is that it is always changing and there isn't much of a formula to it. Pink Floyd are considered one of the greatest rock groups ever but I wouldn't call their music rock. To me it is just music.
Is rock and roll dead?? Depends what you call "rock and roll".

| Is Rock and Roll dead? Posted: 3/1/2007 6:40:32 PM | | I would conjecture that rock n' roll died back in the 1960's, new forms of it have grown from the remains of Rock N' Roll, and the influence is easily heard, though one must acknowledge that more recently, with the worship of idols (celebrities) music has taken a down turn. What is now considered to be popular music would more accurately be described as "popular entertainment" as it depends more on effect and sexually suggestive dancing, music has gone down to the lowest denominator - though the positive side contrasts that aspect strongly with the reemergence of older, "timeless", music such as Johnny Cash, The Beatles, and Bobby Darin, for example. It is my belief that the genre will either die or some talented new bands/artists shall surface and bring back the creativity into music, or music genres such as Rap, Hip Hop, and Rhythm&Blues shall over take it completely. | |

| Is Rock and Roll dead? Posted: 3/2/2007 3:53:30 PM | Nope, not dead, just mostly sucks the hairy one at the moment.
Gotta get away from the radio and go looking for stuff that's a little off the beaten path. There's good stuff happening, just not on Clearchannel.

| Is Rock and Roll dead? Posted: 3/4/2007 3:29:16 PM | Nope, not dead just less popular. Classic rock, especially. I go to a lot of shows each year of bands that have members from the 60s and 70s. The audience size is small. But to me that's fine. Instead of the hockey rinks or amphitheaters, rock music is happening now in clubs and theaters. Places where the musicians and the audience can connect since the shows are more intimate.
In particular, I'm fond of rock bands from the SF Bay area. I recently toured with two old rock bands, Jefferson Starship and Quicksilver Messenger Service. I am friendly with these bands, on a personal level. The audience is make up of middle aged folks like me. Friends of mine flew here from the UK and Midwest to join me on the tour. We had a blast, driving from city to city, checking into hotels (suites) and drinking exotic beers. I tape these bands and trade their music around the globe. So, no rock&roll is not dead. Its just reduced in popularity due to the people who have either died or dropped out of the scene. As long as out musicall heroes are still alive and playing, I intend to continue to follow the music.
IMO, the people who like rock music are the most musical people of all. Peace&love...

| Is Rock and Roll dead? Posted: 3/5/2007 12:55:53 PM | Okay first off...Sarah McLachlan, secondly...John Cougar Mellencamp. Like I've posted in three other forums asking the same thing about hip hop, jazz and of course, "what's wrong with country music"
Music never dies...there is nothing wrong with music. Either you like it, or you don't. Simple as that. You can either get it, or you don't. Music changes and evolves with the time. Ten years from now, someone will re-invent a sound or will remake the classics that you and I consider to be rock hits, today. Dj Sammy came out with Heaven, anyone remember Bryan Adams when he first came out with the ballad in the 80s? I do. Cake redid an Aretha Franklin hit, Survive, and another popular rock band remade Joni Mitchell's Big Yellow Taxi song from the 70s. Sarah McLachlan, also remade a rock/pop version of Joni's Blue. Rock in the 50s used to be the Beatles...in the 60s it was bands like the Everly Brothers or Jerry Lee Lewis...then came the 70s with Joni, Janis, Jimi, and so on.
I will keep posting the same responses for every forum that asks this question, it's rather redundant. Sad to hear pop icons like Sarah McLachlan making such remarks.

| Is Rock and Roll dead? Posted: 5/30/2007 10:40:09 PM | "If there is ever a nuclear holocaust, two things will survive, insects, and Keith Richards!" from post 30 thats a good ONE! instead of chuck norris tuff ass jokes we need Kieth Richard's will never die ones lol...too funny! anyways, my 2 cents...Rock n roll will never die , myself personally Im not into radio , commercialized "rock n roll" I couldnt tell you a song thats on the top of the charts right now,but its still here stronger then ever, its just branching out with the genres like it always has, just today is getting worse.but as long as there is drums, bass, guitar and a singer thats knows how to let loose and electricity to plug into..it will always be around, driving parents crazy, pissing ppl off thats what its all about right?? .... | |

| Is Rock and Roll dead? Posted: 6/1/2007 5:54:24 PM | People have been saying that since the 1950s. No, it is not dead. It changes, but it never really dies out. | |
|
| Is Rock and Roll dead? Posted: 6/1/2007 7:11:10 PM | | Nope. We were worried when "Love to love you baaaaby" dominated the radio but it survived that and many other deviations and permutations since then. As long as we can still fill TWO stadiums full for the Stones. As long as the first few chords of a song can still take you back to that night in high school. As long as I still have those 200 albums in my basement lol . . . . . . . | |
