| Is Rock and Roll dead? Posted: 8/1/2009 1:22:11 PM | Rock n roll will never die. People have been saying it's dying/dead since the early 70's maybe even before the 70's. LONG LIVE ROCK N ROLL. | |

| Is Rock and Roll dead? Posted: 8/27/2009 1:49:40 PM | Uh huh...Sara McGlaughlin and John Mellencamp, real authorities on rock. Kinda' like Dwight Yoakam and Madonna saying that opera is dead. Of course rock and roll will never die...Ozzy said so. | |

| Is Rock and Roll dead? Posted: 8/27/2009 11:37:54 PM | I am almost 53 and am here to tell you that rock is alive and kicking. I have been going to concerts for over 40 years . I saw Zep play the second night at Knebworth, went to both US Festivals, watched Oingo Boingo play the Halloween shows at Irvine.
One of the post's in this thread stated that rock isn't dangerous any longer. I beg to differ. If you want to see a fired up crowd, go see Rise Against play.
So many folks stop LISTENING to music in the 60's, 70's, 80's , 90's... whenever they decided that there was no more good music coming out. There is great stuff being put out by young bands. I listen to Rise, Eyes Set to Kill, Flyleaf - hardcore, new punk, screamo. Rock is NOT DEAD!
If it’s too loud you’re too old, may as well break out the Tony Bennett albums.

It's not dead: it's just old, tired, and keeps repeating itself. Hit the nail right on the head. Rock and roll hasn't been vital or original for almost twenty years now. It's alive in the sense that the blues are alive -neither genre are growing or changing, they're both simply repeating the same old formulas over and over again.
Sure, Rock and roll is alive -it's just braindead and hooked up to life support..

| Is Rock and Roll dead? Posted: 10/12/2009 4:50:05 PM | Of course it's not dead! Even though it hasn't been as good since the 60's, 70's, and 80's, so many of us boomers listen to the classic rock. Even many teenagers and people in their 20's who are disgusted with rap these days are listening to it. Even if I live to be 100, I'll still listen to those classic groups. | |

| Is Rock and Roll dead? Posted: 10/15/2009 5:01:34 AM | | Well rock isn't what it used to be people get used to how a thing is and then when it changes they may think it used to be better. However whether you speak about rock or metal these forms of genre I see a lot of bands going further then what classic rock musicians did. A stronger sense in tonality and grasp of the instrument. Although John Mellencamp may not have understood what music is really about. Music whether it be rock or whatever is about you finding your own to express tonalities and supply a rythmn structure that will create a strong sense of time. That's it the rest is a matter of taste really. | |

| Is Rock and Roll dead? Posted: 10/15/2009 7:50:35 AM | | IMO rock and roll's last hurrah was the early 90's grunge era. Ever since then it all sounds recycled. R and R needs a fresh era to emerge but until the Corporations release their play it safe stranglehold I doubt it will happen before then. | |

| Is Rock and Roll dead? Posted: 10/15/2009 8:36:49 AM | Nope not dead, It has gone underground regrouping and recruiting new young strong men and women that are ready to enter the good fight One night they will emerge out of the shadows walk on stage and blow away an audience that was expecting the same old same old. When nobody remembers who Chuck Berry was or Little Richard. When nobody is amazed at the manic piano playing of Jerry Lee Lewis that is when you Rock is on it's last legs. Besides Mick Jagger will never pronounce it dead. I also see some ever interesting things happening in the the fringes of the world of music. Many artist are exploring the older roots of rock going back to the source. Not just rehashing the music. Great musician Singers Song writers are adding something new to Country, Bluegrass, Jazz, The Blues. Bringing new life to root music. Some call it Americana music. What ever you label it there is some good stuff out there. | |

| Is Rock and Roll dead? Posted: 10/20/2009 2:17:51 PM | I agree with Artz, Rock and Roll isn't dead. Its underground, you all just have to look past what you see on the t.v screen, go out and explore new bars and clubs. Check out those posters you see on light posts. Rock and roll is as alive today as it was when my dad was rockin out in the 70's. yeah its not the same, but stuff changes over time. doesn't mean its bad.
p.s Rock and Roll DEFIANTLY didn't die with Elvis.
