^^^^^ try putting a space before you start the brackets on the html tag and after the closed bracket before you start the text to end the text

Do this on all of the html tags. Leave spaces always before starting your text and ending it

Now you're just showing off!

I still can't do underline , although I've finally spotted the link that lets me edit my own posts, looking at the page source it shows my posts contain < instead of the < symbol.

Try doing it with < and > instead or the square brackets. I am not sure if that is something only mods can do. I just use the standard html tags and those are always surrounds by "<" and ">" .

I've cracked it!

The answer, should anybody with the same problem happen across this post, is fairly complicated. If I entered any text (including spaces) before the <u> tag, it failed, but if I use the edit function and add a pair of empty <u></u> tags right at the very beginning of my post then all subsequent tags I add into the post seem to work okay.

Previously I have found that font formating had to be done in the edit mode
Is this still true
worked this time in original post!

used brackets in the original post
after using the empty bold format at the start with the symbols
[u]using brackets here[/u] but used symbols at the start with b in between and no spaces
no editing in this post

Try putting <u></u> at the beginning of your post when you go back and edit it.

Try putting at the beginning of your post when you go back and edit it.

Thanks
how do you have the arrows show when you don't use spaces?

mmm Guess you leave out the blank empty format at the start
But I don't seem to remember things working like that
But then I'm just stumbling about

I use the html character code:
&#60; or &lt; = <
&#62; or &gt; = >
&#91; = [
&#93; = ]

But if you go back and edit your post you need to check that they haven't changed to the symbols, in which case they might disappear.
