The answer, should anybody with the same problem happen across this post, is fairly complicated. If I entered any text (including spaces) before the <u> tag, it failed, but if I use the edit function and add a pair of empty <u></u> tags right at the very beginning of my post then all subsequent tags I add into the post seem to work okay.

| Text Formatting (Quoting, Bolding etc.) - Practice Thread Posted: 6/10/2011 2:53:25 AM | Try putting at the beginning of your post when you go back and edit it. Thanks how do you have the arrows show when you don't use spaces?
mmm Guess you leave out the blank empty format at the start But I don't seem to remember things working like that But then I'm just stumbling about

| Text Formatting (Quoting, Bolding etc.) - Practice Thread Posted: 6/10/2011 5:26:09 AM | I use the html character code: < or < = < > or > = > [ = [ ] = ]
But if you go back and edit your post you need to check that they haven't changed to the symbols, in which case they might disappear.

| highlighted text - test thread Posted: 7/22/2011 10:20:18 AM | I guess it's fun to learn your way around forums, but for some people it's there to just add comments, etc. Would it not have been easier to add the option button to respond to a post and then have a text editor appear to add Bold, italic, etc? The question may have been answered here, but I don't have the time to troll through 35 pages looking for it.
