Scares the hell out of me. I usually don't seek out individuals who have statements like that in their profile. If they seek me out, I clarify quickly as to whether or not this is a huge part of their life. I've found that it typically is and then let them know that we wouldn't be a good fit.

I'm not a religious woman and don't plan to become one.

As an atheist and a secular humanist, I simply couldn't be in a relationship with anyone who worshiped a deity that preached an exclusivity of the truth, and whose doctrice promoted hatred and prejudism towards a certain group of people or certain individuals.

Their philosophy and mine would be complete opposites, and for me there is just no acceptable middle ground for hatred of any kind. Anything else I would be open to:)

I have been dating a lady who is VERY religious while I am best describe as being an atheist. We had our share of arguments , her saying that I am foolish to renounce God and I stating that she is weak to need God in her life.

Today we both respect each other point of view, do not preach to the other about our believes and enjoy our differences. We are good to the other, love each other and will not have enjoy this relationship if we would have walk away from each other when our differences came to light.

Be mature, respectful and enjoy life.

I am not religious and would really rather not get involved with anyone who is. I've been there and done that and it has not ended well. Nah ... I don't need that hassle again. Life is too short.

Put me down for one who runs when I see that in a man's profile.

It's been my experience that no matter how much they insist it won't matter, believe me it does. Before you know it they're telling you that they can't be with you if you are not "SAVED" and then they proceed to tell you that if you don't go to church or you don't believe, that you will go to "H e l l" and they don't want that.

So they nag you to death about it. Pretty soon, you find yourself sleeping on the couch because they no longer want you near them ... you no doubt have the "non-religious coodies" and they do not want to be exposed to that. It didn't bother them before, but now it does.

Basically, they want nothing more to do with you. Time to move on.

I make it a point not to get involved with any man who lists any type of religion on his profile ... no hassles down the road ... at least not about religion.

amawitch..careful girl..

I got persecuted in an e-mail here on POF. As I was tending to that matter..the sender was in this area..the forum..using it to post a thread using my profile name as a part of the original post. POF..thankfully deleted the thread.

Being burned at the stake is a threat I take VERY seriously..and never mentioned my religious belief on my profile just so that something as drastic as this wouldn't/couldn't happen..but..it did.

From what I've found..most of the people on POF don't seem to be bothered..one way or another..by someone elses religious beliefs..unless they are recruiting for their own.

While I do not consider myself religious, my faith along with my involvement in my church community is a very important part of the person I have become. If a man cannot accept me as I am today, then I will run.....and look elsewhere.

"I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ."
Mohandas Gandhi

I grew up very Catholic (across the alley from the church and school), but the last straw for me was when I realized that divorced remarried Catholics could not receive the sacraments, but pedophile priests were simply moved to another parish where they could continue to molest new children. So which of these persons is a "Christian"?

It seems to me that throughout history, religion eventually becomes all about power and money.

I enjoy discussions about all topics, including religion, and like to hear other people's viewpoints, but do not like to have their viewpoints shoved down my throat. I've found that fundamental "Christians" are too militant for me. But I still try to be open-minded. I tend to be a live and let live type of person. As long as your beliefs don't infringe on my life, I won't let mine infringe on yours.

None of us will know whether or not we have taken the right path in our life or found the right religion until after we take our last breath, but I suspect that if you try to lead a good life (and I think we all know what that means) you won't be disappointed in whatever comes next.

For me, give me someone who leads a good life, with or without religion, and treats me well. The religion comments in a profile would not scare me off, but I would want to know how that might affect any future relationship.

I would like to keep some balance in this discussion. Religion is exploited for power and money, because it is a subject many of us are passionate about. In the search for power and money, humans will use whatever works to achieve their goals.

The Catholic Church has a large number of clergy. In any group (clerical or otherwise) you will find some evil. It isn't fair to paint all Catholic clergy with that brush. I think this is akin to discrimination....stereotyping....

When you are healthy and strong, it's easy to criticize. I am older and admittedly, cramming for the finals, so to speak. I think of the foxhold and deathbed conversions and I know the Church has been around for 2000 years, undergone much persecution, and will prevail. I have erred in my life as all humans do, but there has never been any doubt in my mind about the reality of God. This is just my opinion, of course, but there are many who would stand with me.

I consider myself to be a fairly liberal Christian, as I have dated men who have professed to have been agnostic, atheist, Jewish, Buddist, Mormon, Protestant, Catholic, Hindu, etc. My father was a minister, as is my brother's wife, my sister's husband, an uncle, and my niece's husband is about to go to graduate school to study you guessed it, theology. Maybe people feel comfortable with others who have similar beliefs, I do not know (guess you can tell that am the radical in my family) I do believe that my family being so filled with clergy has definitely scared away many men who might have been interested in me, but then if they were too bothered by it to get to know me as a person than that took care of itself. I did date an Episcopal priest once, and I like manly men and he was not manly to me (I always wondered if he might swing both ways, but since I never knew him in the Biblical sense, cannot make a judgment call)

I recently got to the point of talking on the phone with a man who didn't mention how VERY religious he was and ended up getting a sermon. Yes, I shy away from men profession to "Serve their Lord Jesus Christ" or whatever. I was raised in church and for the most part men expect to "have the last word" on decisions. I don't need a keeper. Thanks but NO THANKS

And we still stereo-type this type of person. I am a firm believer in God. I just don't preach to others. However, I do make my morals known and firmly.

I, like others, am far from being perfect.

For me, if someone has a strong faith in God and goes to church that would be a plus. Or if they have a strong faith and don't go to church, it really wouldn't matter to me.

I find it hard to be with someone who has no belief in God, and maybe that is because I was married to an unbeliever. He wasn't that way when we married but became that way after a few years being married, and personally, that is very difficult to live with. JMO

I remember..my parents teaching me at a very young age..there are certain subjects that should be avoided when speaking to people. 1 was politics..2 was religion..as both are extremely personal matters..and points of view..and no two peoples are usually the exact same. JM parents O

redarcangel;

You may have missed my reference to the definition "annoyed" but rest assured I have many dictionaries from 1828 to the present.

My point was simply that I believe "annoyed" cheapens what is really going on in this world concerning "religious persecution". It is not just Christians upon pagans/wiccans, or Muslim upon Christians, or Hindus upon Muslims. It is everywhere and crosses all religious POV's.

I am apalled that someone would suggest you ought to be burned at the stake. It is very disturbing.

Besides that; 'stoning' is the proscribed method. LOL (kidding )

In any case: my point was not that your feelings were invalid. Nor is what has recently happened to you of little concern to me.

My comments i.e. "sweetie, honey, etc" were uncalled for, over the top, insulting, and condescending. I was wrong. I apologize.

Hersheyboy..

OOTD is correct..I never hold grudges. I appreciate the educational process..and have a great thirst for knowledge.

I wasn't offended at all by your comment of sweetie but..rest assured..some others would be..which is why I mentioned it at all. I quoted the dictionary..as you or I may not feel "annoyed" is a strong enough word to be considered a reason for persecution..but..others of a much more influential nature (Merriam Webster for one) does. I never get upset with the meek or mild slurs..as my religious beliefs dictate me not too. I merely try to state the correct definitions as is stated and acknowledged on a world-wide basis.

Thank you for your understanding. I know you are very knowledgeable..and your concern is quite touching. For that..I thank you.

Now..on a lighter note..or maybe not..maybe it should've been a hanging..or an upside-down crucifixion? Hmmmmm..neither of those could feel too good. Being beheaded is at least quick and painless? Maybe? I wonder..even for a split milisecond..would you feel that?

For those that feel all religion is about power and money? Look again. There are some religions that have nothing to do with either..but..of nature..and peace.

I list my religion as Buddhist. But I personally careless of a person's religious background. I respect people of faith. Some people want to date persons of the same faith. That's fine. If you want a nice Christian man, that's your prerogative. But if I see that a woman wants a Christian man or a Jewish man, I naturally avoid them because they will have no interest in me. I am comfortable with my faith. But I won't ask anyone to convert. And I don't like people to have me convert to their religion. The only person I won't date is a conservative Republican.

I run from the Religious Types... After many years of reflection and investigation I have found a comfortable belief system for myself and do not believe in "forcing" it down someone else's throut. I put Catholic on my profile because the word Catholic means Universal...

After Jonestown.. I have been very leery of all organized Religions.. but if I met someone who said.. Hey, come to my church/temple with me ... I'd go! (couldn't hurt, lol) But to make that a requirement in meeting someone is a bit like profiling a partner..

I have studied Buddhism and incorporate the Ten Worlds into my personal daily outlook on life... It is and interesting concept to discuss with a date.. a Kaimokusho..lol (The opening of the Eyes)

But Religion as an introduction and willingness to seek out a partner.. it's very low on my list of requirements.

I do wish to share my faith with another, but his difference of faith would not be a deterant. I would not try to convert him and would want he would feel the same. I have studied comparative theology my entire adult life and have garnered some from each (including Buddism) that I incorporate in my life/faith. There is gentleness and good in all, unfortunately idiots exists in all walks of life.....................
