| Favorite bar in Vancouver?? Posted: 12/26/2006 6:11:56 PM | | Most of my friends are married with juice monkeys now, so I don't head to the bars very often. But back in the day one of my favorite spost was Babalu's at Nelson and Granville. Great music, people were always nice, and I never felt that testosterone overload that places like the Roxy and Kits Pub had. I even saw Michael Buble perform there before he made it big! But the best bar, without a doubt, was Santos Taverna on Commercial Drive before the owners (allegedly) burned it down. In its place now sits the fancy Belgian beer place which name I can't remember. There was a 3 man and drum machine band playing Latin music on the weekends. The stage was in front of the main window and they would play to a dance floor the size of a postage stamp. It hosted a cross section of the city, from pensioners wearing suits to underage kids wearing Nirvana tshirts copping a feel of their dates on the packed floor. Always a good vibe, great chorizo, and the perfect place to go for a fun night. Stellas! That's where it was located. | |

Shenanigan's on Robson Jaguar's on Kingsway at Tyne Hippo's Sports bar/Chandelier lounge S.E. Marine Dr. @ Fraser
I go out for karaoke maybe once a month with my friend.

It's definitely the Blarney Stone. Such a nice relaxed atmosphere where you can sit and have a beer and then when the Irish music comes on you can dance your pants off!
That and I've NEVER gone to another bar where the bartenders (downstairs only :p) are as friendly as Trevor, Jan and Alvin are. The Blarney Stone just has absolutely excellent staff. NO snobs whatsoever.
You are right, there are no snobs there. And yes, I recall friendly and cute bartenders there. Have photos to prove it! Hee hee

Now we go to a lounge for drinks as my friends aren't big into dancing and we usually are getting together to catch up with each other.
Although I really miss the Rose n' Thorn and more recently the Fricken as it was walking distance home.

The Cambie is good if I'm meeting friends in Vancouver.
Wings on Granville is a good place to watch the hockey game and then head out for some fun afterwards since it's right in the middle of everything.

Posted: 2/22/2007 1:17:11 PM | * The Cambie is always a great place to meet new people, just randomly sit down at a table where there is room and strike up a conversation. * Club 23 West is sometimes good, I’m not much for sin night but they have interesting other nights. * The Railway, lots of room with places where you can hide out from the rest of the crowed, Live Music, local bands.

But Mugs and Jugs in New West really knocks my socks off.
