Posted: 7/27/2006 11:48:19 AM | I'm with you Juliet. Why be with someone that dosen't respect you or what/who you love. And Tiger I agree to the fact that ultimately humans are more precious than pets, but do we give up the pets we already love for someone that may not be around in a year?
I don't see why this is such a big issue. Pet lovers date pet lovers, non-pet lovers can date non-pet lovers. If something is truely worth working out between a pet lover and a non-pet lover, I am sure the two people, being the adults that they are, will probably be able to work out some common ground. | |

Your partner should come first, even if it means before your damn dog! If you let someone who values you above all else know that they come second to your dog, then good luck having a lasting relationship whether they mind your pet or not. Personally I can't stand that people are willing to let their homes become dander factories destroying the environment for some people. This says a lot about a person. It says my dog comes before any humans that may want to be my guest. Not exactly hospitable, discrimination against allergic humans in favor of a dog or cat. Then there are those that have the dog licking their owners teeth clean! what a f****n turn off! If I see a dog sniffing a womans crotch, jumping on their bed, and practically french kissing a woman, I am out there no matter how much I like the girl. Obviously the dog is their primary lover and I am maybe a candidate for some crumbs falling off the plate!
What this says to me in a nutshell is you have jealousy issues with animals, control factors? And you are assuming (from experiences? or just assumptions) that all of what you state is true. You know nothing about doggie behaviour or doggie language. You obviously know nothing about dogs if you think that a dog sniffing any crotch is about being a "lover". You are making assumptions that dogs are humans and should have human behaviour perhaps? Wrongo. Not even close. Licking teeth clean? Wow, where'd you get that one from? 
As singleguy states, it is my choice as it is my home, if you cannot deal with a dog then you do not have to come in, plain and simple.

That isn't to say that there aren't guys out there that build and carry strong bonds of love with their pets, but there do seem to be more women than men in this catagory. Personally, my dog is my radar. If she doesn't like you - don't let the door hit you in the butt on the way out. Her intuition is amazing and I trust her far more than any guy at this point in my life. I don't know that I would ever consider dating someone that openly admitted to not liking animals, either. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but I can't imagine my life without animals as a strong part of it, so that kind of takes care of the compatability question for long term dating. | |

Maybe you need to take a look at the owner and not the dog! Men I dated when I had Charlie would contact me and ask about the dog before they asked about me. Sadly Charlie passed away 18 mths ago. I have not replaced him because he was irreplaceable! | |

I have a puppy, 'Rocky' which will be a big dog when I get back (livin with parents & sister, they love him too, in the house all the time!).. now tell me would that scare a guy away? Doesnt really say hey, lets get a place together with your hudge ass dog that your ex gave you on valentines day!
lol Well at least he's neutured and doesnt hump legs! Oh yeah hes really smart too(everyone says so), shakes a paw, plays frisbee, and is a good gaurd dog, catches moths even! Doesnt drool, lets me bath him weekly..
Id be with a guy who had a dog, I mean if ours could get along..

Well, someone whom would hurt an animal as they are not getting there way will hurt me or my child as my child would come before any man (trust me I know people like this) and believe me, my animals will not hurt me or my child. And ya know, I have plenty of people that can put up with me, the important ones. Those that would not hurt a fly let alone my dogs, and they sure would not think it is funny that there are people tht would. | |

Ive known a very horrible person who was a pet owner, she treated everyone like dirt and her pets were to be respected as her own children!..the worst thing is she treated even her pets like crap!...well it took me a while to figure it out and then I realised that her relation with her pets (she had lots of them) was her problem....she lost her human sense of relation because she only saw her 4 legged friends as her little world..as if they were messing with her mind or something...there are times when I think she was insane... | |

I think you are shallow and have no compassion. Resonsible people don't ditch pets they have spent years with for an a.sshole like you, that's for damn sure.
My dog loves me unconditionally. She is so happy to see me when I come home. She does the silliest things and makes me laugh often. She has more personality than some guys I've met. The man I date doesn't have to like animals. But he does have to like my dog. She has been my trustworthy companion for years, and she will stay by my side. I would never ditch her for a man. Any man worth my love will accept her place in my life and find a place for her in his. | |

A love of animals is a great bond for people to start a conversation over. My sweetheart and I just got a puppy together, and if he didn't love animals I wouldn't have been as attracted to him as I am. It shows his character that he can be warm and loving with all creatures.
Having a pet is a committment for the life of the animal. Period. You just don't discard a pet for some guy who you may just dump in a few months anyway.
And if you are allergic, best to put it in your profile so the pet lovers can see it. | |

The feel hurt, left out, depressed, angry, excited, happy, sad, things like that just like we all do at times. I hate it when people think they are just animals because they are not. Once you get a pet they become a part of your family. Now the only thing I get is a fish. Now that to me is just a fish. But come on people Our pets become a part of the family whether you like it or not they become like our children. | |
