@nothinleft

His name is DJ Deuce...not sure if he's a member of PoF but Ken (PerfectlySmooth1) should be able to provide you with some contact info.

THe Dj was a man named Dj Deuce .. as far as i know he was not a POF member but you would have to ask the co host that as that was his domain .. i had nothing to do with booking him or the music or anything as i obviously had other things to worry about .. You can mssg the co host ( Ken ) perfectlysmooth1 and ask him about Deuce if you have any questions ...I believe from what i was told by Ken that Deuce is a Regular Dj on a rather popular radio station in the area .. i just cant rememeber which one .. too much sun i tell ya !!

Thanks for holding the fort down while i was gone hugtherapist.. i missed your hugs at your party last night .. hope it went well !!!

To everyone else ....

Ill get to your emails .... tommorow !!

Until then sweet dreams and pleasant wakings in the pond.

And no I did not attend....I didn't know about it until it was too late.

Would like to make a suggestion to "clear the air" on some of the negative comments and tension that seems to have surrounded the aftermath of this undertaking. I am under the impression that between 1200 - 1500 people were in attendance...each paying an entry fee of $10.00. This would mean between $12,000 and $15,000 dollars was collected. Perhaps a "basic" posting of where the money was spent and how much for each item (ie rental of location $$, photocopies $$'s) would clear up any misunderstandings that "no one was paid" for the event. I think those in attendance deserve to know where the money went. I know there are probably many other things still to be taken care of, but I think this would be beneficial should such an undertaking arise in the future.

@nothin? Your attitude is one of the biggest reasons people shy away from having any get togethers! You paid $10 for a whole day and now want a report back from the "Wall Street Journal"???? I can only shake my head at the sadness/silliness of some of the posts here....

^^^ ditto to Wizard & Kit ^^^

I understand the cost to attend a speed dating event can run anywhere between $50 to $75 or more per person (Kris can probably confirm this). So who really gives a rats a$s about a flippin $10.00 that more than likely had to stretch like a rubber band to cover costs for this event !!!

*** sigh ***

I seriously have had it to about my ears ..

I took MY time , Ken took HIS time , Bigfish took HIs time and the manyyyyyyyy volunteers took THEIR time to host this event, FOR WHAT ? to be whined at by children ? I am completely and utterly disgusted waking up this morning and realizing i pretty much didnt enjoy my vacation because there is soooo much whining going on . The first few days i didnt check my POF i had 50 some odd emails screaming at me about going on vacation because they needed their matches and they needed them now ! Well guess what people ? DIRECTLY ON THE CHOICE SHEET IT STATED THAT IF YOU MET SOMEONE THAT NIGHT EXCHANGE EMAILS WITH THEM SO YOU DEFINATLY CAN CONTACT THEM ! If you read the instructions like any adult would you would know that . Dont contact me now and yell at me about someone not picking you . I AM NOT GOD . I do not PERFORM MIRACLES . We did this event to see people meet on a scale that indeed was not typical of a regular event. And again -- over HALF the people who signed up and preregistered DID NOT SHOW UP . We knew and anticipated this .. your counts of between 12-1500 in attendance are WRONG . It was actually less than that . WE had a second room upstairs no one knew about in case everyone who said they were showing up showed up .. They did not . In fact in the end LESS THAN A QUARTER OF THOSE WHO SIGNED UP SHOWED UP ! I am not going to sit here and calculate for ANYBODY where all that money went. What i know that by the end of the night when i left that place there wasnt a penny left. WE RENTED THE HAMILTON CONVENTION CENTRE PEOPLE ! this isnt a bar or a club where its free to walk in . its THE HAMILTON CONVENTION CENTRE. If you have any half of a brain you will realize that it is NOT cheap . It is an amazing facility that provided excellent service. In fact setting up the chairs alone cost close to a thousand dollars . each chair was exactly 24 inches apart and 32 inches behind . For fire safety requirements each chair had to be mathematically measured by a ruler for the fire marshal to be ok with the setup . Ohhh another thing you didnt know .. but as i keep repeating .. as the organizers we had hundreds and hundreds of things to do that you wouldnt have any idea about. LEt alone the convention centre security guards that were required to be in attendance due to the sheer number of guests, rental of the facility , prizes , some were donated others paid for, photocopies, etc etc etc etc if you were in attendance you know we took that convention centre and COMPLETELY flipped it around in 20 mins from a speed dating mecha to A FUN - EXCITING TABLES AND ALL DANCE HALL INCLUDING A LARGE PROJECTION SCREEN THAT SHOWCASED POF EVENTS FROM AROUND ONTARIO. So you think that we didnt have to pay the 20 odd people who were in that place from the convention centre to flip that room ? Of course we did . The convention centre is a unionized environment so we are required by law to use their employees while using their facilities before anyone starts asking why we couldnt ask for volunteers. They were and still are an amazing facility . They indeed very much want POF back there.. I on the other hand am not so sure that some of you deserve even one more minute of my time. I have my fish -- why do i stay you ask ? Well .. i have some great friends here now too .. and not to mention i truly enjoy hosting parties where ADULTS are in attendance. I have been chastized for yelling at the event . IF YOU WERE ALL ACTING LIKE ADULTS I WOULDNT HAVE HAD TO YELL LIKE YOU WERE 3 YEARS OLD. There were clear rules that many of you broke . You knew what you were coming into we told you numourous times ...

On that note i have better things to do today than sit here and listen to any more whining. There is a reason some people are single . It is rather obvious in some of you.

I highly doubt that anyone will ever throw something like this again, If you try - good luck - Today when i mail out that package it will be the culmination of 5 and a half months of long hard work .. 5 and a half months of missing my family and neglecting my regular job . Why did i do it then ? To see ungrateful people whine and complain about how things didnt go their way ? or to see amazing , funloving, selfrespecting people have a great time. obviously the later. Over 250 couples were counted leaving the event HOLDING HANDS ! THIS IS OVER 500 HAPPYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY PEOPLE !!!!!!

POf as a community is amazing, BIgfish is a genius who has made a mark for himself in this world like no other. THe New York times hails him as an Online Dating God and this all coming from one man with a dream . This is now the largest free online dating site in the WORLD. Now someone tell me again why we cant just all be decent , respectable human beings? Im not saying dont give me constructive critisism. Im saying do it in a manner that is condusive to respect and dignity . Yelling and screaming at me in emails is NOT condusive to that.

Now im off to do what i really want to do : Spend some time with my family now that ive said my peace .

Ill look forward to all the hate mail this generates : oh : one last thing :

I knew going into this we would not please everybody . That is a given . I would say that before you have walked a mile in my shoes ...... maybe its time to close your lips and open your eyes.

My final word

@sweetshar?
Hun I could care less that you type in caps which makes you look like you are screaming at the entire pof population! That is your choice, and trust me, I have better things to worry about than what you do! Was just a suggetion to you is all. Obviously you took offense and for that? Well what can I say?
**Do not** Put words in my mout Shar! Never in either of the posts I placed here did I call any members "idiots". If you don't remember, please just scroll up. You will see I am right.
My entire point in this thread, without screaming I might add, is to just say that people should let up on Kris. The fish community is sitting back shakin their heads at the bashing and accusations some have made regarding this whole thing! Events like this and the aftermath, are what discourages people from ever going out of their way to host events! Nuff said!

In defense of Kris,Ken,Bigfish and all the others that helped put on a great party,I'd just like to say that it was an amazing feat pulled off with great precision and timing!!Just watching the whole night unfold with a minmal amount of glitches was well worth the 10 bucks.
Its very difficult to phathom the logistics of an event of this proportion. After reading many of the negative posts,I can see Kris is getting pretty ticked off.Can ya blame her!!Even the photographer(who did a great job) seems to be pretty peeved.
Have a little patience.Let these guys sort things out in due time.Besides, results are always better when they're not rushed!!
Having said that, someone should start a new thread *I SURVIVED THE POF GUINESS WORLD RECORD BASH...NEGATIVE POSTS ONLY *
Atleast it would keep the praise and respect most people have for these fine organizers in the proper thread.
It was also great to see most people checked they're inhibitions at the door and proceeded to be very open and responsive.Again, well worth the 10 bucks.
Thanx for throwing a great bash, and I hope you guys wont be too discouraged to try and top it one day.

Ok I admit I made a profit at the Guinness Party.

Ok folks confession time.

MEA CULPA

I made a profit at the party.

I paid my $10.00 and I also bought a bunch of fishy sitckers and lots of pens with my own money which I then handed out to anyone who wanted them.

I did however receive a fancy Plenty of Fish T-shirt and a fancy name tag for free. Which were worth quite a bit it appears. Just for standing holding the doors open for 5 hours.

SO IF YA ARE ALL WONDERING WHERE THE PROFITS WENT?????

------They are in my laundry basket.------------

Phew! I feel so relieved that I got that off my chest.

Ok, It was about time I washed the thing it was getting a bit ripe. . .

I wasnt pointing fingers ned just making a democratic statement
so i went and read the rules and now understand that excessive caps is against the law of POF
this is just too much for me to take certain people worried about how one writes their posts
anyway topic dropped I do believe I have had my say
no more postings from me
I like being able to state your opinion
not being held hostage by small minded people
Have fun at my expense though cause if you are cutting me up then you are leaving others alone

Just a thought for anyone who decides to do something like this - make people pay the registration fee ahead of time (non refundable - if you can do that legally, I don't know but I would think you could) - it's a lucky thing if less than half the people showed up, that Kris didn't end up in debt. And it will also make people think twice before sigining up because they have to pay upfront and actually more likely to force them to come if they've already spent the money on it....know what I mean? When I saw the number of empty chairs, I did wonder whether there was enough money made to pay the Convention Centre. I would have felt terrible if there wasn't - and shame on those who didn't show up!!!

Anyways, it was a very interesting event to participate in, although after about the 6th guy I was losing my voice and tired! And I still had about 50 more to go! lol
Good job to everyone who organized it!

I did not attend the event, but read this thread with some interest to see how the event went. I think Kris has done a great job in this venture and has her hands full. But as in any type of event or environment of this magnitude there will be the negative ones.

To me, the bottom line is that Big Fish has endorsed it, so there is very little that needs to be said.

However, Kris, you did take on the responsibility of the event and therefore your complaining about the tasks at hand are not valid, in my opinion. You criticised people for not following the rules, for not acting like adults, etc, but you are not helping either. You did take on this task and you shouldn't have done so if you are not willing (or expecting) to accept the negative feedback as well as you accept the positive feedback. It's all part and parcel of being a host... of any event.

In my opinion, I am a little bothered to read some of your comments for such an unimportant event. I say unimportant because it was a social event... not a political event.

On that note i have better things to do today than sit here and listen to any more whining. There is a reason some people are single . It is rather obvious in some of you

^^^ I hope that isn't the attitude you have when entering politics... you'll be eaten alive. In your previous post, you said 90% of the feedback is positive... in Politics, 90% of some issues will be negative and your attitude and insults can make your political career a very short one.

I'm not a politician, but I do know that "sucking it up" is all part of the job.

I think ive stated several dozen times that when critisism and feedback is put forth in the proper context it is not only accepted but welcomed. When there is feeback weather it be negative or positive when it is done correctly it is only a stepping stone to better things. I do not believe yelling or screaming or berating is the way to go about delivering feedback. When delivering postive or negative feedback the manner in which it is presented is everything. I have taken all feedback delivered with due diligence seriously .

And YEs i did take on the responsibility of the event : Obviously well aware of what i was in for ...I do not feel that i was complaining at all about the tasks.. in fact i think ive been more than patient and taking my time to do all of this i would have never done if i wasnt interested in seeing it to conclusion.. I havent complained about this at all in my opinion because no matter how much crap flies my way i really enjoyed myself on this event ...
I think ive accepted the feedback and was rather calm about the entire thing until people started yelling/ screaming/berating/ acting like children in their emails to me .. heaven forbid i took a little vacation .. the world didnt end .. its still standing ...

As per the political set of it .. my approval rating is so high becuase i tell it like it is .. i dont beat around any bushes and im a blunt honest politician . I do not belive in sugar coating things for feelings sake as sometimes all someone needs is a little wake up call of honesty and bluntness to realize what they are doing. The people here respect the fact that i dont hide things nor do i try to make bad things look good. I tell it like it is - each and every single time and i do not hold back . I think that if some more of our political leaders higher up did the honesty thing we would be in a much better place. 90 percent of what i deal with in politics is negative .. and 100 percent of the time i resond in fairness and honesty .. making me who i am today

on that note : thank you for your feedback . As stated above i appreciate when people deliver feedback in a positive light not berating or putting down ... rather stating their opinions in an adult and profesional view. Feeback can only make us all better and the sooner we learn to accept all feeback , positive or negative , and realize it can only grow us into better people the sooner animosity will stop .

Sorry i didnt spell check this its written rather quickly as im on my way to pigeon races for charity ...

Have a great day people

I guessed from the initial raw list that I had more than one match -- but I guess I was mistaken. I had squat. But I'm not complaining. At least I got to meet some people rather than just do absolutely nothing on a Saturday night. It was something else for a change, and that's all that mattered.

So what if there were no matches? No hard feelings. There's no point in taking it out personally on anyone, because obviously I didn't make a good impression on any of the nice ladies out there -- or those I liked didn't pick me.

The least I can say is that the opportunity was provided, and I took the risk. If I got a goose egg, that's my damn luck. Thanks to the organizers anyway -- given what could have been organized chaos they still pulled it off and they should be getting more gratitude than some here have given them. I do, for one.

There are some people who have restrictions on their profiles ( dancer1113) and others which is making it impossible for your matches to contact you . May i suggest that if you have major restrictions on your profiles you remove them if you want to hear from your matches. I have a list of no less than 40 people who cant contact their matches due to restrictions.

Thanks
