I'm posting this on behalf of Bambers. She just re-joined, and cant post til she is an active member for 3 days.

after the hamilton pof party this sat night,i made a few phone calls today and did a little math,at ten dollars a person,at least 2000 people...........hmm.

Clearly stated in the original party post that it was the VENUE collecting the money. Rental for the place, the DJ, all the advertising that was done. The photo-copying of all those papers. These things are not free!!

i just read that you host speed dating for a living ,,,,,,,,how do you hold on to your job? sat night was a real let down for many as far as the speed dating end of it!and for women who showed up at 3 to just be brushed off when others who came at 5;30 keep a seat, what happened to first come base here?

At the start of the event, the women who were extra were used as relief to the women wanting to use the washroom, get a drink, a bite to eat, smoke etc. Had any of you stuck around, you would have been placed within 5 minutes MAX! So what if you couldnt speed date for the whole 4 hours?? There was a HUGE after party where you got to mingle with everyone who was in attendance anyways! I didnt participate in the speed dating, I mixed and mingled with the crowds out in the halls, met some amazing men and ladies! I even met a fishy too! So there ya go! A non-participant in the speed dating made a connection! Imagine that happening at an after party! Who would have believed that crazy concept!!

Kris has NO blame in any of you having a crappy time at this. You make of it what you will. Make the best of it! She provided an EXCELLENT event! I had the best time ever at this one! As I said, I didnt speed date at all.

You needed to come in with an open mind. With an event this large, you cant accomodate everyone. We had enough trouble getting them in the door and registered in a timely manner.

As for not seeing Guiness there? Hmmm,,there was a booth on the second floor with two gentlemen sitting in it, overlooking the event. Those were the officials.

Edit to above Bambers gotta love seeing ya back chicee

Still waiting for Chris to give us a count on the numbers that attended. I was Male #1034 one of the last guys to get a number. (I really was there early but I waited till the end to get my number.)

Whatever the numbers the place was packed. I've still got a sore throat from screaming.

So did I scare off a lot of you with my occupation??? I got the exact same surprised looks from all of you LOL! and Yes I really do that. and I do play with big ones.

And Yes I know all the sex jokes about my occupation as well, just ask me. ;-)

Unless you have ever been involved in hosting an event of this magnitude you will never understand the expense of pulling it off as well as this event was.
I have been involved planning and participating in a few international events of this size and they have NEVER made any money!! They usually loose money - but what you do get from this is recognition and the joy of bringing so many people together for a chance of a life time. How many of us would ever have had the chance to be in the Guinness book or to meet so many wonderful people at one time?

This was the first POF party I've ever been too...and definitely won't be the last! My friends and I had an awesome time!! Everyone we met was in such a good mood you couldn't help but enjoy yourself! Not sure if I made any connections....I guess I'll see when they check who said yes to me, lol.

Anyway, here's to more POF parties in the future!!

"oops sorry for the typos just a little hot under the hat thinking many people have been taken advantage of here, and hope this does not happen to us again!"

This person has made bitter and horrid accusations without any proof and is apologizing for her typos? Doesn't that about sum it up?

Although the outrage it may bring to innocent parties is obvious, and the desire to defend, do we really..really need to even dignify, answer or defend in this case?

How about we just carry on in our own version of reality? It is so much more fun in mine where I had a blast for $10 :)

I'll be waiting patiently for my matches too but I won't be holding my breath or I'll end up looking like this guy>>>>>

Hi there Kris and Fellow fishies!

I had an awesome time at the speed dating event and at the after party! My total of 23 hours of travelling over and back home was worth it! Oh yah, do I get a prize for being the person who travelled the longest way to get there?!?

Well, okay. It wouldn't have been so long a trip if I hadn't gotten lost so many times!!! LOL! Anyways, I can't wait until the New Year's Eve bash! I wonder how many new expectant families will be attending?!? LOL!

Anyways, it was so cool to be a part of this event! I just told all my friends who ditched me last minute; "What happens in Hamilton, stays in Hamilton! You should have been there!"

I'm so glad to see some of the pics already posted!

To all the fishies I did get to meet, thanks for entertaining conversation. To the ones I danced with, thanks for cutting the rug with me, you made my night even better!

See ya'll at New Year's!!!

Matches will be coming -- working on them as we speak actually -- just feel the need to address stupidity first :

Just to clarify -- No one made any money NO ONE at this event no organizers walked away with a single red cent -- WHat i did walk away with is the following :

One amazing night of memories -- I met sooooooooooooo many people who were happy , laughing enjoying themselves. Over 250 couples walked out at night holding hands -- thats at least 500 happy people counted leaving .. Tonssssssssssssssss of people who signed up didnt show up -- im sorry ya'll missed an amazing party . Whats in it for me you ask ? The satisfaction of being part of such an event . The amazing oooohs and awwws that you all brought with you as you walked in ... I heard so many gasps when people first entered the spectacular room .. i made sooooooooooo many new friends .. i got an amazing album fullllll of memories from something that will probably take a small army to duplicate. And to think that NO ONE made real actual cash on this .. its all about getting a name out there , its all about doing something that we love .. for me .. being a professional events manager and speed dating company owner its all about seeing everyone smile. 99 % of that room walked out with smiles on their faces..Yes sure i had to play drill sergeant a couple of times.. with that many people in one room its inevitable BUT -- I DO THIS FOR A LIVING THAT MY DEAR IS HOW I MAKE MY MONEY that is how the world works and im sorry if your bothered about how damn good i am at my job -- I bought my house and everything in it MYSELF with money I EARNED ..NOT by duking people .. its unfortunate -- but if you read i did say come into it with an open mind and youll leave with amazing memories -- close your mind and you will not have a great time, in fact you will miss the life that is in front of you being a cranky miserable ok wait .. better stop there ::) .. meh -- some people are single for a reason :)

Prizes --We walked around and handed out hundreds of prizes .. some we bought some were donated .. imagine giving out 200 + prizes on mic -- would make it impossible to dance ..

On that note im back to my office to match you people up -- there are literally THOUSANDSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS of matches with me being not even a quarter of the way done these the average person right now picked 26 people !!! yeah 26 !!!

Thank you to everyone who realizes how much this event took to pull off.. I would do it again in a heartbeat to see you all smile again.. That alone is priceless ..

Ya know on a personal note : AT the end of the night as Kees and i were dancing to stairway to heaven , I looked around, i seen at least 50 couples still dancing , arms around each other , kissing, smiles on their faces, THAT is what this is all about ... And im more than honoured that I could be the one to do it ..... THanks Fishies for allowing me the opportunity to have such an amazing experience !

Kris, Ken and to all the Volunteers

There is no need to defend yourselves. You guys did an amazing job. I know and anyone who has ever organized a function in a large building that it can cost thousands of dollars just for the building alone. I help organize Craft Shows and I am sure you would have lost money at this event. The building, the security people, the DJ, medical staff, the chairs and tables, advertising, insurance and so much more all add up very quickly. If you haven't been behind the scenes, most people just don't understand the costs. It is unfortunate that some people are ignorant to the costs of putting on an event of this scale.

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK AND ORGANIZING THIS AMAZING EVENT!

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

I HAD A GREAT TIME AND YOU ALL DID A WONDERFUL JOB!

oh man, there always has to be some asshat who comes in biatching and complaining without having a single clue wtf they are talking aboot!

honestly , the venue itself is terribly expensive , I have been to Nursing conferences where we had to pay 20+ bucks just to get in to cover the cost of holding the conference in the first place!

I know we shouldn't even bother to waste a few minutes typing in defense of the event but seriously , what do you expect for 10 bucks? logistically it was a huge undertaking and if you really wanted to ensure you had a seat , you went early , waited in line , and didn't leave and come back.

I had a blast, met a bunch of cool people (men and women!) and although my voice is still hoarse - at one point I was actually squeaking! (so not attractive, I know ,but I normally don't sound like fran drescher, promise!) and for 10 dollars it was well worth it!

I think Kris and the organizers deserve to make something from taking on an event like this , but they won't because if you add up all the cost involved (seriously think about cost , venue, nametags, paper, stamps, stickers, dj, prizes etc) there is no kick back to be had.

whoever said that your happiness is in your own hands had it right, if you're going to sit and piss about it instead of enjoying yourself thats no ones problem but your own!

look at all the 20 something guys who stuck it out being in an age group with women who were 20-30 years their senior? They did it in the spirit of the event , and all of them seemed to be having fun at the afterparty!

Rather than complain like a steroid ridden maniac, why don't you post the numbers you have and we''l first evaluate the merit of your complaint... it's only fair since you started with the allegations.

You're just pissed because the night/event didn't revolve around you when you entered the building. Complain about gov't taxes before complaining about paying $10.00 to meet hundreds of men. Ironic thing is... the $10.00 was not a problem to you, until you were told to wait... then the world "wronged you"... give it up!!!

Behaving like an adult includes cursing someone you have not met?
Tsk! Tsk! Tsk!

I believe this thread was opened to invite comment on the event. After the rest of you stop pissing in each other's pockets, realize that not everyone had the wonderful time.

There were issues, and there were problems. Take those comments constructively. I've noticed in the forums leading up to this event that anyone who commented with concern, was bitten or rudely treated...being told like children they should read all 23 pages of forums to find their answers. Perhaps a FAQ regarding the event might have assisted those who did have concerns.

Being adult means being able to stand back and see things from both sides. I'm glad someone added their comment that it wasn't all rainbows and sunshine. It's the reality of trying to organize a huge event. Things do go wrong. Not everyone was happy with the event. Yes, indeed they too survived the event...they have as much right to comment here as all others.

Why can't the organizers admit that it might have been done better, answer the concerns raised, and the rest of those who feel the need to protect them at least be ADULT enough to not use name calling and bleeps to get your point across.

Just my opinion.
Dev

PS. Congrats on the Guinness Record...to everyone who attended and made it happen.

Though i don't agree with the complaints regarding the actual event i do agree with what Beautiful Deviant had to say. The individual who posted her concerns is in the minority, but she is entitled to her opinion. Address her opinion not her. I also found a few glitches in the party but I am also hesitant to voice them because of the way in which anyone who has voiced any sort of criticism whether constructive or not, has been shot down. It's a shame really because the event was well organized and put together but there were problems.... For example:

1. A guy who went to the restroom during the dating was sent to the 40 plus area when he came back. The guy was 26. He didn't get a chance to speak to many in his age group. Yes i know he could talk to the older ladies, who I am sure were very gracious and fun to speak with, and find out about their daughters or grand daughters, but I actually stayed in the row and held in my need to run to the lavatory because I didn't want to get out of line and be sent to an area to speak with someone or people I had little in common with. I also do not think I was alone in this concern.

2. The start of the event, after everyone filed in and sat down took WAY TOO LONG. I understand that the logistics were probably a nightmare but ther must be a way of improving the set up and communication and getting everyone seated to start.

3. It was a shame that many in the 19-25 crowd basically left after the actual event began. However, I do not find it to be surprising. When I was 19-25 years of age, I had no problems finding dates, so the need to come to a speed dating event was minimal.

4. Trying to communicate on microphone while the dates were going on. We had all of 3 minutes, if even that, to talk to people. That was barely enough time to get your name out there. Then there were the 4 or 5 times someone had to talk about 'if anyone wanted their money back then leave now' announcements. It was hard enough talking with the noise of everyone around us let alone with constant announcements of one type or another.

those are the main points of concern I felt were relevant to the event. Again, I am merely pointing out observations I made during an event which was very well organized and quite enjoyable. I hope you all take them in the context they were meant.

get some balls people and speak your real opinions

Beautiful deviant,

Rarely is an event a perfect event and those who feel cheated may speak their mind... but it's their mind..... she should speak for herself without insulting others.

Remember the old addage.... "The bigger the balls, the smaller the brain"

Besides, people are speaking their real opinions, they're just not the opinions you or her are expecting.

okay Dev, yes not everyone had a good time , and there were of course many concerns with the logistics of it all , however, the person who was complaining was attacking in the first place! Jumping to the conclusion that money was made somehow and insulting the hosts etc, come on now , if you're going to post like that of course people will jump on you in return, the organizers did the best they could , you can't please everyone all the time but to jump on the forum and wonder out loud how the organizer makes a living doing event planning etc is just childish and rude. Constructive criticism is one thing , horrific, insulting, spelling error filled hate posting is another.

Ill add mine to this even though I know its fruitless to the detractors...

Everyone has a right to their opinions here....even Kris would agree things didnt go without a few issues..I doubt very much when she started planning she was thinking she would have to raise her voice to get people organized, and I doubt anyone forsaw the rules Guinness had established concerning sitting situations...Guinness' rules were a tad strict, and the organizers tried their best to get ppl in order quickly...not something I would enjoy doing...Before complaining..put yourself in their shoes
As far as the complaintant...well she comes on and accuses the organizers of making serious profits from this....This isnt a complaint so much as downright petty rudeness and she deserves everything that was said after..she opened the pot....had she merely suggested that some people like herself were not enthused about the outcome and why, theres a good chance people wouldnt have slammed her as they did..So in effect it isnt the disagreement so much as the nature of her complaint that raised the ire of many....she proved to me that she would never be datable to anyone I know due to her thought processes. Its sad....
Like everything in life, this party was what we made of it..simple..and as the majority has said...they had a great time...so the majority walked in that door thinkign it would be fun....struggled thru 3+ hours of sitting and trying to talk, and still walked out at the end of the night with smiles, and memories..geez, many made matches...what else can anyone ask for
SMILE....LIFE IS GOOD

Wizard, as I have stated often the night was a success i just wanted to point a few things out that I am sure the organizers are aware of. As for the individual who attacked the organizers she did lack tact and ... well ... evidence of her accusations being accurate so I wasn't defending her opinion and the way she voiced it, but her right to actually voice an opinion.

It took a lot of guts for me, and money, to attend the Guiness World Record Speed Dating contest and bash, from Ottawa.
Despite everything negative, we did stay the course (good Canadians that we are) and we sat through it, and Whoopie we made it a record. At present, I will really believe it when I see something in writing.

LUVME24U .. you have made a point. No one does anything for nothing (unless you are Bill Gates).. money is always the issue. Follow the money trail they always say. Only Revenue Canada will find out the truth, not us. These singles gatherings are usually set-up non-profit organizations.
I personally, do not care if they made money .. what I don't like is being CONED.
By implying that we were expecting 3 to 4 thousand people, it made the get-to-gether a little more exciting.
The pre-party was a bust. Maybe 65 people there. Music so outrageous and loud, one could not hold a conversation.
The shouting and screaming on the micro-phone was sad. A good leader, leads by delegating, and finds good people to help. Several people working each aisle, could of offset these "screaming sessions" EVEN THE VOLUNTEERS WERE ROLLING THEIR EYES!
A summary of the procedures to speed dating hand-outs, would of saved some time.

KUDOS to those 18 to 25 year old gentlemen who sucked it up, kept a stiff upper lip, and made it through a bevy of beautiful older women with a smile. I was one of the people who told some that they would be interesting for my GRANDDAUGHTER, not daughter. lol

BEAUTIFUL DEVIANT: Bravo!! Forums are for discussions, for the pros and cons of an issue, and not to be sanitized for the comfort of some. When I querried about this event several days before it happened, I was later called "old", "feeble minded" etc I obviously hit a nerve. There is a tight CLICK operating here , who come to the defense of each other .. even if they are holding a smoking gun!!!

FINAL COMMENT: WE CAME, WE PARTICIPATED, WE CONQUERED ..

AT this point im going to ask the fighting to stop and say this

EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TO THEIR OPINION

But when you accuse something you must i repeat MUST have merit for that accusation ..

THere were issues with the evening -- WE EXPECTED THAT

When y ou get that many people in one room there are bound to be issues -- logistically this was the biggest nightmare ive ever encountered .. but i think that we pulled it off .. we do have to wait official confirmation from LOndon on the record but all looks good so far .. ( from an organizational point we have to send in tonssssssssssssss of paperwork all your choice sheets ,, press clippings ,, tape recordings etc etc for a true confirmation)

Just because you have gone home does not mean my work is over .. in fact if you who are complaining wish you can come on over to my office and help my staff try to put these matches together -- oh did i mention there is no pay but happiness in knowing what you did ? ( and not those voicing their opinions because those are important i mean those who tend to bash and accuse without merit )

I loveeeeeeeee contructive critisism .. i think its the only way to get better at what you do .. the issue is when you attack you arent being very constructive.. when you ask questions and point forward hints i take them very seriously --- and thank all the people who voiced their opinions ... both positive and negative on this issue ..

Ill be looking forward to seeing you pull off an event of this nature .. id be sure to attend

On that note im done on this topic as i go back to work matching the fish up

Thanks for all your support and if you have an issue with me i suggest you contact BIGFISH the owner of the site who has been beside me this entire way .,... and KNOWS the logistics of this undertaking

Have a great day

KRis
