| I SURVIVED THE POF GUINNESS WORLD RECORD BASH !!!!! Posted: 7/24/2006 3:13:03 PM | Wow, it really is incredible sometimes to witness a forum where everyone has the space to speak their minds. That is one of the reasons I enjoy this site. It is a shame that there are those that can't seem to get their points across without becoming childish, rude and just plain ignorant. Certainly there are always facts and feelings and sometimes they have nothing to do with one another. Anyone with half a brain must realize the magnitude of organizing such an event. The logistics alone would be enough to give anyone a nervous breakdown. I'm curious to know just how many people actually put their hands up to offer their services as a volunteer for this kind of event as it's always those that don't help contribute that complain the loudest. Everyone that helped out deserves respect for what was a very long and somewhat tiring evening in the hopes that they could help provide an enjoyable evening for the rest of us and offer up the opportunity for a world record that dosen't come along every day. I wasn't going to post to this because it has been done ad nasuem and I don't believe the manner in which it was presented should even be rewarded with a response but felt compelled. I am also not a part of any "click" and to those that didn't enjoy themselves in the end have no one to blame but themselves. Nothing ever runs perfectly...life just isn't like that...when you live in that kind of eutopian world let the rest of us know and you can throw your own perfect little party...and none of us would show up...even if it was for free | |

| I SURVIVED THE POF GUINNESS WORLD RECORD BASH !!!!! Posted: 7/24/2006 4:35:04 PM | Wow...i cannot believe what i have been reading in this post!!! It is truely amazing to me how people can sit back, and complain about an event that took months to prepare, in hopes that we set a record, make some new friends and yes, potentially a connection with someone!
As i stated in my earlier post...i did come out to be part of the speed dating but I CHICKENED OUT. I could have just turned and gone home...but instead , i OFFERED MY TIME to help out in any way i could.
I was told we needed floaters to fill in for washroom/ smoke breaks etc. I was told we HAD TO KEEP THE SEATS FULL, AT ALL TIMES....so i thought , sure why not...how bad can it be..
Well let me tell you where i found the problems:
1. Not all volunteers showed up to help out as they had said they would 2. A number of times, i did sit in someones chair to allow them to go do what they had to, but guess what...THEY DIDN'T RETURN....therefore, making me sit there longer than i should have had to.....which in turn...MADE OTHERS HAVE TO WAIT LONGER TO GO TO THE WASHROOM. IF they had come back...their might not have been such a long wait for others to go do what they needed.
3. Their was to be equal men and women for this event to work...as stated from the very beginning. NO WAY ANYONE can help it, if those who signed up or said they were coming...DIDN'T SHOW UP! Yes, there were people who came early and yes,,,they didn't have a partner to start with....BUT YOU COULD HAVE STAYED AND HELPED OUT ALSO. You would have been able to eventually do the speed dating part of it.
4. Their was an opportunity after the speed dating to still MEET PEOPLE WHO DID COME OUT.
5. I personally host many parties on this site, and much smaller venues...and trust me....its not easy trying to please everyone. We are not here to make sure YOU HAVE A GOOD TIME....ITS UP TO YOU, TO DO THAT YOURSELF. We provide a location, a bit of entertainment, and yes, if we are lucky, we get the venue to sometimes throw if snacks/beads or discounts on things for you all. But i mean really....DO YOU THINK WE should pay for everything....i think not. We provide a venue....its up to you if you go to it or not....there is never any pressure put on anyone to go to anything posted in the forums for events here on pof....IT IS TOTALLY UP TO YOU..
On a personal note for myself ............i was scared to death to sit there and talk to all you men...(ya for those who know me....trust me...i'm good once i know you...LOL) but when i did fill in when needed, i found it was really ok. I did get to meet some very nice men (and women) and they made it very comfortable to be myself.
I for one...did check off yes to a few names, not sure what will come of it...but you know what....IT WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE...AND..............I ACTUALLY WOULD DO IT AGAIN!
Perhaps, the next time an event is thrown....some of you , who do have an opinion..(and rightly so) can bring forward your concerns prior to the event....or make suggestions based on your experiences...........and that might give insight to the next person doing something GOOD FOR EVERYONE..........or better yet.....BE A VOLUNTEER.........HELP OUT INSTEAD OF COMPLAINING ABOUT WHAT WENT WRONG. just my opinion.....
For those who did come out, had a great time, met some new friends.....well heck....guess you just formed a clicky group....way to go....
I'll take my clicky friends i've met since i joined anyday! My experiences on here, attending events, meet and greets, have been the best! I would not change a thing. I've met some really wonderful people in the past, and again on Sat night.....and will continue to do so in the future....
iF ANYONE WANTS TO JUST SAY HI...FEEL FREE...nothing wrong with making friends......anything can happen after that...IT ALL STARTS SOMEWHERE!

| I SURVIVED THE POF GUINNESS WORLD RECORD BASH !!!!! Posted: 7/24/2006 5:57:58 PM | Kris, As I told Wizard (who I was fortunate enough to meet Speed Dating), I never post anything in the forums but thought you deserved a pat on the back for all the hard work that you, Ken and all the others did. I went with a friend who is Not a POF member and I don't think we have laughed that much since we were kids. She has decided she needs to look at dating online.
For $10.00 you couldn't ask for more. Even though some guys were younger than I would usually search for it gave us a chance to chat with guys we wouldn't have given a second glance otherwise. Even if I don't end up with a match it was worth while. The girls we sat with were a hoot too. I am now interested in attending more POF events.
Outstanding job! | |

| I SURVIVED THE POF GUINNESS WORLD RECORD BASH !!!!! Posted: 7/24/2006 6:03:18 PM | It seems everyone is talking!
I live in Toronto, and on my way to work this morning (monday after the event) on the Bloor/Danforth subway, I overheard some young men talking about the POF party!, they were saying they had a blast and made some contacts. Then on the way home, once again on the subway a few girls were talking about the party and how much fun they had and it was "awesome".
I didnt go to the event, wish I did, I have followed the forums both before and after the event, sounds like it was an terrific experience. What a vision!, what an accomplishment! seems like a good time was had by most

in fact if you who are complaining wish you can come on over to my office and help my staff try to put these matches together -- oh did i mention there is no pay but happiness in knowing what you did ?
I may be misinterpretting the rules of this site, but, if you are a business and making a profit as an organizer, I do believe there may be concern as to who/when/how these rules apply to some, but not others. My understanding is something as simple as a 50/50 draw is unacceptable in the eyes of admin.
As the organizer, hopefully, you made it well known this was a profit making venture (if profit was made). The event itself, sounds great. But it does seem to be against the rules.
Maybe the rules don't apply to public relations/marketing events that benefit this site... who knows?
As I said, I may be misinterpretting the rules.

| I SURVIVED THE POF GUINNESS WORLD RECORD BASH !!!!! Posted: 7/24/2006 7:22:32 PM | | I had a great time and would like to thank Kris and everyone involved. I can only imagine all the work that went into organizing this. I met a lot of very nice people, young and older, male and female. I did not tick yes for guys who lived far away but I was sure wishing some of you lived closer to me. There were a few in my local area who caught my eye some of whom I didn't get a chance to talk to. I left to get a bite to eat with every intention of returning, but found myself driving home instead. I am kind of sorry I didn't return for the after party. Hopefully I will be matched up with a few that I had the opportunity to speak with during the speed dating. | |

| I SURVIVED THE POF GUINNESS WORLD RECORD BASH !!!!! Posted: 7/24/2006 7:43:39 PM | | Holy Crap I'm sorry for even suggesting some of the concerns I had with the party. I personally wasn't ****ing about the event I thought it went very well. I just thought that if there was going to be another similiar event in the future the organizers would maybe like some feedback. I do not think I was out of line for pointing a few things out. I respect the people who put this together and congratulated them on the good job they did, as well as the volunteers who took their own time to help out. I personally wasn't saying that their efforts went for naught. As for the suggestion that those who cast their opinions regarding an event are never satisfied I think that is quite offbase. I agree that it isn't the organizers responsibility to guarantee a good time and that it is up to each individual participant to make the most out of the situation. I also think that the NEXT TIME a large event is going to be held, there can be some improvements made to make things a bit better. If this is wrong, then I will shut up and stop giving my opinion from here on in. | |

| I SURVIVED THE POF GUINNESS WORLD RECORD BASH !!!!! Posted: 7/24/2006 11:57:00 PM | OK We all came out alive right? We all did something we will probably never do again... We all had a story to share and laugh about the following day... We all met interesting people who we hope will produce results.. And if they don't what we all did was take advantage of the kind generosity of those who volunteered there time and efforts for OUR enjoyment... I have to say thank you ... As someone who oversees event planning and logistics i believe it was a job well done...
P>S> Tom if you are out there I need my psychic back..

| I SURVIVED THE POF GUINNESS WORLD RECORD BASH !!!!! Posted: 7/25/2006 5:22:44 AM | | Even though I decided to take a pass on this event, add me to the list of people who would be interested in seeing a similar event run again, but scaled down and without so many rules for the organizers to worry about. | |

| I SURVIVED THE POF GUINNESS WORLD RECORD BASH !!!!! Posted: 7/25/2006 6:04:07 AM | My 2 cents...
Alrite I'll admit: I was a lil bummed out to be an extra at this crazy event..alrite i was a LOT bummed out to be excluded...i mean considering my friend and i had taken the time to properly pre-register, drive all the way to the hammer, make it there on time, line up to actually register, then pay the 10 bucks...only to find out that there werent enough men for the women!! Come on...if u were me wouldnt u be the LEAST bit peeved??
My point here is tho, that although that part of the nite was disappointing, my friend and I did leave and ended up coming back for the afterparty...and it was AMAZING!! So the nite turned out really awesome after all,...i mean sure our names weren't gonna be in the Guiness but I was part of a CRAZY afterparty..met some awesome ppl (that werent even POF'ers)...and to think I wouldnt have met these ppl if I hadnt come back!
Things didnt go as planned as Kris had hoped but like every1 is saying, a lot of us had an amazing time and we have her to thank for!! THANKS FOR A GREAT NITE KRIS!!

| I SURVIVED THE POF GUINNESS WORLD RECORD BASH !!!!! Posted: 7/25/2006 6:14:46 AM | Wow it looks like alot of blood, sweat and tears went into this event! To me it sounds like an awesome amount of planning and organization went into this, and the vast majority of POFers had a kick azz time. I can't even imagine the hours of planning and time that you spent on an event of this magnitude!!! Kudos to the event planners on a fabulous job well done! | |

| I SURVIVED THE POF GUINNESS WORLD RECORD BASH !!!!! Posted: 7/25/2006 6:59:00 AM | The certificates are participation certificates and there is no way im mailing them out only due to the fact they will cost an arm and a leg and because NO ONE made any money on this event that means if i had to mail them i would have to send them out using my own money and im allllllll into following rules so that wont work ...
The issue will be once we get official confirmation of the success from London we will get given the certificate template .. im not sure how the copywrite works yet as ive never held a world record before ...LOLOLOL..
Watch for details closer to Halloween about that .. takes Guinness up to 3 months to confirm, a submission anyways ..
We will keep you all updated dont worry !!
