I see a lot of people commenting that this event was in violation of the rules.
Just to be clear, IT WAS NOT.

One thing I want to point out is this. I see a lot of wannabemods quoting the rules but they are forgetting to quote this one so I will.

Planning on Hosting a Party? Things you need to Know.
http://forums.plentyoffish.com/datingPosts1156438.aspx

Exceptions to the rule:
If approved by plenty of fish, a fee can be charged if it is charged ONLY to cover expenses such as bus rental, etc.

In case it isnt obvious, there was an exception made to the other rules because this event WAS PREAPPROVED by plentyoffish to cover expenses such as hall rentals, etc. The key is it was preapproved. That requires contacting admin and confirming it is okay before posting the event.

The hosts of this event contacted the OWNER of plentyoffish - ie: Bigfish and was given permission to advertise this event on the forums. In fact, Bigfish helped the hosts of this event on many levels - one of them being sending out multiple emails to encourage folks to attend the events. Both Bigfish and the moderators have been aware and in the loop on this event. There have been no surprises or secrets.

In closing, I'd like to say this. If you have a LEGIT CONCERN about any events the best course of action is to contact a FORUM MODERATOR or ADMIN and voice your concern.

Leave the moderating to the moderators please.

hmmmmmmmm seems like there is still talk in Barrie.....something about the results should be in on Tuesday........like in Today........personally, I am not going to hold my breath on this one, and hope that the organizers take thier time with them........make sure they get some rest and relaxation time.........for sure, I know we all can wait a wee longer.......and further more, as Kris pointed out.............this was a FREE event, it may of cost 10bucks to get in, but I think that was for the hall.......and I know all the volunteers worked for FREE, which is why POF is the Number ONE Free Dating site................YEAHHHHHHHHHhhhhh

EDIT........now it sounded like I was kissing up........LOL....but I actually posted this before I read the above post, and fully agree with both the mods comment and my own........No reason to kiss up to facts.....and figures.....rules are there as set by owner of this site, and I for one love the site........

Wow I wonder if Kipling ever hosted a speed dating event?

[IF]

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream--and not make dreams your master,
If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!

I think that all the people complaining should give the organizers a break. I can't believe someone would badger anyone who has volunteered their time. I don't know the people who organized this, but I really do believe that this get together came from their heart. I had a nice time and I met a lot of nice people. I had a lot of laughs and has far as I could see everyone was having a good time as well. I would like to thank everyone that organized this and for inviteing me to this event. I enjoyed myself.

Kris you are doing a wonderful job, take your time, none of us are in any hurry.

Wow that is a pretty high average, I'll be happy even if I don't get any matches as it was so fun, and to get 5 matches is beyond my expectations.

Hi Kris,

I just wanted to say that you did a fantastic job of organizing this event. I can't say that I really enjoyed it - I found it a bit too much - but still it was an amazing feat that you and your crew pulled off! CONGRATULATIONS!

Quote from Woodstock "I THOUGHT I WAS IN HEAVEN,MAN"
Posted: 7/25/2006 11:49:38 PM
Three days later, I still get excited remembering that Sat.July 22 2006 @ PoF Speed Dating Event and to think I was THERE! To me, this EVENT will remain in my memory forever. Kinda what it must feel like to people who attended WOODSTOCK 1 . Because of the MAGNITUDE of this event, of course there would be problems and critism. But from the moment I entered the Hamilton Convention Centre, I felt this wonderful vibration of excitement and yes, LOVE. Could it be possible that so many people gather together in one place looking for the same thing? We were all there looking for that "SPECIAL SOMEONE". That one "SOUL MATE", with that "SPARK" or "CHEMISTRY" that will change our lives forever. That gave us ALL, a special BOND. Kinda felt to me like I was a part of a CHURCH, in a way. So, here we were, men and women, sitting across from each other, ready to TALK to each other. And we had only 3 mins. with each person. Wow! What a challenge! How often, in life, do we get a chance to sit across from a wonderful human being and be "YOURSELF"? For me, it was like, "I was in HEAVEN, man". I got to get close (had to lean forward to hear because of the noise) and look into the eyes of over 50 different LADIES. I talked to many very strong, independent, females who know what they want and still have the "HOPE" to find it. Many will travel distances and overcome obstacles. To me, THEY WERE ALL BEAUTIFULL! I felt truly blessed to be in their presence. That`s why " I THOUGHT I WAS IN HEAVEN, man." To me, this event will definitely be a "GLORY DAY" memory that I will treasure. At the age of 58, I`m learning to recognize them. When you`re not with the one you love, THEN LOVE THE ONE YOU`RE WITH" CSNY P.S. SHIELA from Etobicoke...Thanks for the DANCE..(You`re) " HOT, Hot,Hot " BigBobKozy

Four days later, and I can't believe I made it through relatively unscathed. This was the first time I've tried speed dating -- I suspect the same is true for a lot of other people -- and I'm just glad I was able to meet as many very nice women as I did. Some of the organizers here have said they've been able to get an average of five matches per person so far. I'd be happy just to have one or two; but even if it winds up zero, this is something I'd do again.

Probably the next time, however, I'd prefer to do it in a much more controlled environment -- maybe 20 or 30 women at most, with much more time, say five to eight minutes. Regardless, a huge thumbs up to all those who put it together and all those who showed up. As for where this might lead -- well, who knows? I'm just glad I took the risk and for now that's all that matters.

Well I for one had a great time......and let me just say that I have met a TON of great people on POF and if I never find my match on here, it was truly worth the journey. My POF friends (which have been referred to as clicky) have been there for me whether it is through something serious or simply to have coffee........and to any NEWBIES, ask around....we are always eager to have new people at every event, if you feel alone at any event perhaps it is because you have not introduced yourself to one person from POF.....because as soon as you do, you will be introduced around to everyone.....so there are no strangers...........

Here's to my POF FAMILY..... .....and Thanks again for everything!!!!!!
