Posted: 8/11/2006 3:55:39 PM | Height is a factor. I get overlooked, girls in public don't even make eye contact. even with my group of friends (all very nice people) I am overlooked almost like I'm not there.
Happens when I take my truck to the mechanic, I know vehicles, I know what I'm talking about and they overlook my suggestions! its like listen buddy I know whats wrong, I just don't have a shop of my own to fix it in.
At work I have a physical job. Lots of very heavy work and when I first arrived, I had to prove that I was capable of doing it. I work with some tall guys that know they can't do something and end up asking me to do it. Tallness is not a sign of strength but it's taken that way by almost everyone... I've dropped a few taller guys when I'm out at a bar and they feel they can push by me or but in line and give me that**** attitude... not so****y with teeth missing... bouncers are always shocked.
I guess I suffer from "little man syndrome" from being shorter (just over 5'7") I need to compensate with a bit of attitude and assertiveness. I dont' get pushed around and I can be a total ***hole when someone starts treating me like I'm inferior. Inside I'm a softy but I can put on a "game face".
Alot of girls won't date me because of my height, they've said so. Girls are all interested online say I'm a great guy untill they find out my height and then I don't hear from them again.
I'd wish females would actually understand I can be just as protective, and productive as the next guy. I know its hardwired into us, but its way past the point of that in these times.
I'd prefer short women... for a reason as I'm not that tall. but I wouldn't say no to a girl my height or a bit taller if we clicked. | |

Posted: 8/12/2006 5:45:43 PM | Well great response in theory- but for some reason the 2 most significant relationships in my life were with men 1-2 inches SHORTER than me--- lol.... my first real long term boyfriend and my ex-husband of 11 years. I always had a thing for smaller guys-- in part because my father was very controlling and abusive-- at 6'4, so I found comfort and a greater sense of safety with a man my height or shorter.... dont worry-- its not a dominance thing-- I dont go around whipping a man (unless he'd like me too- wink-), just makes for comfort for me sexually and emotionally. Also just because a man is smaller in height doesnt mean he isnt just as endowed. I've known 6'2 men who had 4 inch penises--lol!
Think of the Captain and Tenille-- and Cher and Sonny Bono-- lots of other famous matches of tall gals and short men and no its not JUST about the money--

There is a lot of talk about preferences and seems to be a belief that once you define what you want, its a process of finding it and living happily ever after ...but notice the word, "it". For me, a more interesting line of inquiry is to ask if people of a certain height enjoy more longetivity in marriages and relationships ..who lasts? If you want a car, you look at the tires, you dont look for wings. A person isnt a sum of body parts and a relationship isnt about body parts ...tall, short, young, old, etc. is all about "it", "things" ....not people! I dont think it really makes a damned bit of difference, actually. I have a friend who is 5'1" and was married out of college to a man 5'4", he died from a heart attack at 54 and soon after she paid the first bill, wrote the first check ever in her life. He took care of everything and they loved eachother very much. They had two great kids, two homes, he left her very comfortable. I understand he was a very sweet, kind and nice man, well loved by many, tons of people at his funeral. Frankly, I dont think that he was 5'4" or 6'4" made any difference to her one way or another. If you asked, but if you could choose his height, would you have rathered 6'4"?, I think she would laugh at me to ask that. I think that "tall" gives a woman the illusion of things, but just the illusion, just like "short" gives a man the illusion of power over a woman. And by the way, it definately does not help protect a woman from an attack. In my younger days, I was a bit of a toughie and got into fights and the lanky, tall guys I could cream. I;m 5'9 and muscular, a giraffe was never a match for me. I dont mean to preach here, but I have made the same mistake over and over and over again picking women out for their physical appeal to me, giving myself an illusion, and its brought me nothing but misery because its only a superficial attraction, its not what makes people connect and its just not what makes things last. People really need to try to stop thinking they can order other people from some kind of menu, like food, and be more realistic. things just dont happen that way and very often, you really dont have ANY choice at all about who you really love.  | |

Posted: 9/22/2006 1:29:26 AM | Okay lets see -- Although I appreciated the original posters efforts in creating this article and I enjoyed reading it alot I have to disagree slightly in the fact that yes I agree that its hard wired for women to prefer tall men from our ancestors for the survival thing but the rate of modernisation we are experiencing means that survival is not about getting a spear and killing an animal to eat -- survival now is more often than not monetary / financially based.
I am 187cm tall ( 6' 2 ") and i weight in at 210 pounds and have 8 % body fat -- I havent had a date in 3 years - in fact any time i approach a woman they tend to try to get out of my prescence as fast as possible ( and i am sure someone will say my personality must suck then or something like that ) - so the physical attraction thing based on survival instints these days I dont think has any merit or bearing like it may have a long time ago.
Still I am no expert its just my uninformed opinion based on personal experiences and observations | |

As I used to box and still do boxing training I have a power ratio of around 100kg per sq inch, compared to a normal man of around 30 to 40, so I am far stronger than most tall and short men!!! I train with another who is a ex pro am boxer who can give 200kg per sq inch. " thats 440 lbs
I have an extremely handsom son who has done many television adverts and was offered the part in a film next to Ewan Macgregor, but turned it down because football is more important to him lol………he could have made it.

To the OP: great work! Most people in this thread ( esp the women) can't seem to appreciate a well-argued thesis anymore, nor the time you invested into it. It seems that sarcasm and cheap one-liners are more popular than intelligence!
Other than that I have no real comment...I'm average height and find I appeal to some women and not to others. However, tall girls generally seem to like taller men and vice versa, so perhaps it's simply an ergonomics thing. | |

The problem is when you see a number written down, you form a mental image of someone that you can't get from meeting them in person. The same would apply to women and numbers...who you really are and the vibes you give off, just can't come across on an impersonal machine like a pc  | |

We are not going to grow by complining about it. I've been with taller women. Here's another point most of the Martial were made for the short poeple to know how to compensate or hoe to fold a taller man. examples
Jiu Jitsu, Judo Kadokan, Russian Sambo, Aikido etc. Anymore examples Ok. fighters like Mike Tyson, Rocky Marciano, Wilfredo Gomez, Bruce Lee, and Matt hughes are short!!!! How's that for protection. Bruce Lee ,quoted that being tall would be esier to get defeated by the striking of their long extremities. So why cry about being short? | |
