As for dating being a rude business, I think that is a far worse attitude than the "no Italians" comment. If you feel that way, then why would you want to be on a "Dating Site"?
It depends on your sensitivity. Rudeness is relative perception.
One person's rudeness goes undetected by a less sensitive, crude, person.
Also cultural values alter our perception of what constitutes rudenes and levels of rudeness.
One nations or cultural levels or rudeness are vastly different in what is written and said. Individuals within those nations compound it by having various levels of sensitivity.

THe first time he took his shirt off I couldn't believe it. I have to say that that did put me off Italian guys in general . . .who knows though. Maybe this girl had a similar experience.

Explains why the Italian girls enjoy sporting the moustache so much.

| If Italian need not apply Posted: 7/22/2006 4:18:46 PM | well vivid i am of italian decent...and last time i checked i was facial hair free. I also shave my legs and armpits.... I agree, its all down to choice...good and bad in all nationalities...but no need to be rude about it... | |

| If Italian need not apply Posted: 7/22/2006 4:35:16 PM | Hi Mike!
First of all, I'm sorry you had to come across a profile like that, I'm also italian and I would be taken aback seeing something so blunt on a profile..
That being said, I'm going to try and explain something... I was married for 15 years to an italian man that was abusive. My experience was so bad it unfortunately put me off italian men, probably for a very long time. I try very hard to push it away and be open minded. I can't help but cringe everytime I meet a man I like, and find out he's from the same race as me...This isn't to say I won't ever date an italian man again, I'm just extremely leary because of my past experience. Believe me, its not something I want to feel.So....although I might not agree with the tactlessness of it, in a sense I understand why she might have put that on her profile...
I'm extremely proud of my culture, I think we're incredible people that are family oriented and caring. Most will give you the shirt off their back, and welcome you into their home as part of their family. I think we're beautiful people, but theres good and bad in every race. Its just awful when you hit a bad one...good luck, I'm sure you'll find LOTS of women that will be more then happy to be with an italian...
OH YA...and one more thing...NOT ALL ITALIANS ARE HAIRY, GEESH...lol

We all have the right to state what we feel is perfect in a mate but, (and that's a big BUT) I feel there are soooo many fine men of all races and when you generalize or restrict your choices in that manner then you not only restrict that race but, you also restrict anyone who takes offense to racism. Racism is NEVER cool or OK. All races have bad and good and all races have mamma's boy's (believe me! been there, done that, LIKE 3X). Even if I wasn't part Italian, I would take offense. Some people can be so narrow minded and actually I think it's just plain ignorant

| If Italian need not apply Posted: 7/22/2006 7:30:50 PM | | Maybe just maybe people who have such narrow parameters are single because of that. Just a thought... | |

To find somebody bigoted means to have intolerance in your heart. To find somebody bigoted you have to be able to recognise bigotry. How does that require - or even *imply* - intolerance on your part?
I guess that anybody who ever laughed at Archie Bunker is intolerant.

| If Italian need not apply Posted: 7/22/2006 9:34:45 PM | | I didn't call her stupid because 'I' disagree with her...but because what she said was wrong ("stupid") as reality and facts disagree with her. | |

| If Italian need not apply Posted: 7/22/2006 9:35:56 PM | | Hey, wops have feelings too! lol There's always one that makes the bus late, getting waaaay too serious! No names mentioned, of course! Hey, life is all about choice. If she don't want she don't want! Not too complicated! | |
|
| If Italian need not apply Posted: 7/22/2006 9:41:17 PM | | I'm not Italian, though I've often been mistaken for one, amongst other things. But I do find the way she put that as insulting. Though at least you know who to stay away from. | |

| If Italian need not apply Posted: 7/22/2006 10:01:58 PM | | We all have our personal preferences when it comes to a potential mate. There are some nationalities that I find very attractive but their traditional beliefs and customs clash with my own and thus would make them a poor choice for a potential long term relationship. Knowing this incompatibility up front may eliminate some potentially wonderful partners who aren't traditional even if they share the same ancestry, but in the end we have to be true to who we are on the inside. | |
