| If Italian need not apply Posted: 8/5/2006 10:01:12 PM | I am Italian too.........i can not take offence to her remark........actually i would probably make contact with her ..........to show her who and what, etc., i am. You folks are probably correct.........no italians screams to me that she has suffered a bad experience and she most likely feels that if an italian came into her picture right now i t would not be fair to him as she has not healed enough. It' s understandable. Even if our reasons for No italians is wrong..........she has the right and hat's off to her for being so forth right.

And if this person should read this post, no we are not all members of the MAFIA (Mothers And Fathers Italian Association), I've never had a relative who either put or had put a horse head in his/her bed. And I do talk with my hands but only in bed.
Foooorget about it....................
there's no doubt that ITALIAINS are hyper sensitive
I guess everyone has their preferences....don't worry about it....

she wrote, "NO ITALIANS." Being of Italian descent I was a bit taken aback and thought, "Wow, that's kind of short sighted." I mean I know many people of Italian descent and it's not like they can all be lumped into one category in terms of physical appearance.
RACISIM comes in many UGLY forms.....
Your a bigger person to forget about it......

| If Italian need not apply Posted: 8/6/2006 4:43:24 PM | I think she must have just had a bad experience with an Italian and is afraid to trust one again. I. personally, had a wonderful, caring, and totally innocent relationship with an Italian back in junior college. From the day we met, when I literally fell into his arms, until the last time I saw him before I left for Jax the weekend he was murdered, he was nothing but a gentleman. On the other hand, I met one online who was not what he said he was...or at least I'm pretty sure he's not. He claimed to be single with no children, yet when I called like he wanted, a woman answered the phone. I'm not saying that that's just an Italian thing, because it's not, but maybe she had a similiar experience and the guy just happened to be Italian. As for you, OP, you're just too far away! | |

| If Italian need not apply Posted: 8/6/2006 4:46:11 PM | | She si obviously an ignorant person who is very superficial. Dont waste and of your time giving her a second thought! | |

she wrote, "NO ITALIANS."
Typical of a scorned woman looking to blame someone of something.
Because of course, EVERY Italian is like every other Italian, right?
Good lord, what a child...
Wonder what she's say if the guy had been 'insert ethnic origin here' ?
NO ANTARCTICANS!!!!
NO BANGLADESHIANS or BANGLADESHERS or BANGLADESHITES or whatever they'd be called....
Ignorance is bliss, and she is the happiest woman going....

| If Italian need not apply Posted: 8/8/2006 9:41:21 AM | Buddy, I wouldn't worry about her. Being of european descent, I have encountered the same as well, especially by my own culture. It's baffling at times but what can you do? Feel thankful that nothing did work out with this person. Honestly, they are doing you a favour by not hooking up because who would even want to be with someone so shortsighted like that. I have come to understand that you just have to go with it and respect other peoples preferences regardless; even the most rediculous of criteria such as this. No worries either way. Chin up,...there are plenty of females on here that would love to meet a nice Italian guy like yourself. Cheers.

OP: You answered your own question:
I won't date smokers, just a preference.
She won't date Italians, just a preference.
What makes you think you have more of a right to preferences than she does?
And honestly, what difference does it make?

| If Italian need not apply Posted: 8/8/2006 10:27:33 AM | I am 100% Italian heritage and yes, What that woman put in her profile is rude and insensitive. But i was warned at an early age about the prejudices i would face as an Italo/American. Most people won't see mild mannered Italians as the late Perry Como was. Or the Italian who invented the battery that is basically the same we still use today in our everyday life..Alessandro Volta. or Luigi Galvani, Christopher Columbus, Joe Dimaggio just to mention a few. They prefer to remember Al Capone, or various mafioso members. Ultimately she's done us a favor. I wouldn't even want or think about contacting someone like her. When in the Navy we were always reminded that we were "Guineas Dagos and Wops" But we learned to consider the source. ie "What can you expect from a pig but a grunt?" Don't even try to educate or reason with someone like her. She's not worth it and it's her loss anyway. John | |

| If Italian need not apply Posted: 8/8/2006 10:56:11 AM | Well, I am Italian and to any men who love Italian women here I am !
I wouldn't even give that person the time of day, who posted that, sounds so low class!

| If Italian need not apply Posted: 8/8/2006 11:03:32 AM | silva888 The derogatory names you mentioned to me, are, fighting words. I can relate to what you went through. As for the poster who said we are "hyper sensitive" and the other ones who see this as just a preference, I think you should think before you speak, or post. There are just certain things we dont go around saying, even if we are thinking it, it is called; human decency.

| If Italian need not apply Posted: 8/8/2006 11:03:56 AM | OP: Again, you have supplied the answer to your question. I took the liberty of looking at your profile (which is great, might I add). In your profile you state...
Finally, I believe that being selective is a great thing. Too many people fear being alone. I'm very comfortable being alone and prefer it to being in a relationship that doesn't stimulate me in a variety of arenas. There are many great people out there but not everyone is great for me (or you).
So I guess my question to you is this: why is it okay for you to be selective, and even to say that you think others should be more selective, and then come down on this woman for stating her preferences, because she is selective herself?
Just because someone doesn't want to date members of a certain group, it does not necessarily follow that they are prejudiced against that group.
I don't want to date someone who eats big macs three meals a day. Doesn't mean I don't like them. Just means I don't want to date them.
This topic has been done to death, by the way, but we're all still here posting... boy, do we like to beat a dead horse around here!

| If Italian need not apply Posted: 8/8/2006 11:07:06 AM | 1coolchick, Everyone has preferences, but like idiots we don't go putting them all in our profiles. I can't understand why you can act so rudely about this topic, if it does not affect you personally! | |
|
| If Italian need not apply Posted: 8/8/2006 11:10:13 AM | I have papers We should all be proud of who we are and where we came from. We should also be free to choose the type of people we are attracted to and list that on our profile if that is our preference. I'm not a big fan of Blonde haired blue eyed men but I fell in love with one once. | |
|
| If Italian need not apply Posted: 8/8/2006 12:10:19 PM | @ Huggablehottie - actually, a lot of people do put their preferences in their profiles. And although this does not affect me personally, this is a public forum, and the OP did ask the question. | |

***Karlia, I wouldn't date a Muslim either, not because they don't eat pork, I don't eat pork, either, since I'm a vegetarian, but because of the way most Muslims treat women.

P.S. As for the Italian stallions... Hey, that means there's more for us!!!

| If Italian need not apply Posted: 8/8/2006 12:42:01 PM | comparing smoking to the heritage you were born into, is illogical at best, one can choose to smoke, but weren't born doing it, yet we were not able to pick whom we were born to and where. have a good day. | |

| If Italian need not apply Posted: 8/8/2006 1:13:50 PM | | hey well first off Im part italian and love it. But something like a nationality to be judged upon is kinda not fair. There are some great people out there from every nationality and others that arnt so great. Doesnt mean they have to be exluded...Im not picky but there are things that I dont agree with and others I do but I tend to give everyone an equal chance...step out of my comfort zone for instance. | |

| If Italian need not apply Posted: 10/7/2006 5:53:40 AM | | Message 112, thanks for your kind comments about my profile. Actually I started this thread, not because I was "mortally offended" by this woman's comments but because I know we all have preferences and there is nothing wrong with being selective. Height, weight, activities, smoking/drinking habits etc. are all things we choose to like or dislike. What was odd re: the Italian comment was that it implies that all Italians are the same. I've met blonde Italians, short ones, tall ones, calm ones, angry ones etc. You cannot equate a behavior or action that is definable with one that isn't. I don't want to be with someone who uses drugs. That's an action that could hurt me in the long run because there are ramifications to it. A person's ethnicity doesn't have ramifications. And since all Italians don't look alike, act alike, sound alike etc. it's just a very odd thing to put in a profile. Well, at least that is my opinion and I'm sticking to it. | |
