Posted: 7/30/2006 9:36:17 PM | i have been "threatening" myself in the past few months that i`m gunna cut my hair short.. but when the time(s) come.. i "chickened out".. i`ve had long hair what seems like forever.. yes i have had short hair before.. didn`t like it on me..
and y some older females cut their hair short?.. ummm easier 2 take care of?.. | |

Posted: 7/30/2006 10:18:01 PM | I whacked mine off about 3 years ago and am still waiting on it to grow all the way back.
Short it was way more of a pain to keep looking like something. And I froze half to death the first winter. Ya it can be hot in the summer, long, but if I condition mine right it will stay slightly damp for a good 6 hours and that helps. | |

BUT why do some women choose to have short hair in their late 30s or 40s in my opinion because some (not all) of these women now starting to grow grey hair and it's costly to maintain that natural color look if they keep their long hair. OR perhaps some of these beautiful women chose to have short hair (wash and wear look) because they have other important priorities in life. that's my 2 cents...  | |

Posted: 7/31/2006 4:36:15 AM | My hair used to be about an inch away from being able to sit on ~ and while it looked great, it was such a pain to look after. Here's just a few examples........
~having it wrap around poles while waiting to cross the street
~ shutting car doors on it
~ in the summer, it's like a wool blanket hanging down your back
~ waking up one morning and realizing that it had gotten entangled in my metal bedspring... took me three hours to untangle as I was living alone.
Because of these reasons, it was usually in a long braid which still got stuck and wrapped around stuff. Then I tried twisting it up and keeping it piled on the back of my head which lead to headaches.
It may look nice, but once it reaches a certain length, there's not all that much you can actually do with it. Mine is short now and I'll never go back to super long hair. | |

Posted: 7/31/2006 5:46:47 AM | My hair's that long, Spelly. Just right, as it is very annoying if you keep sitting on it. When it was short it always looked a complete mess as it stuck up all over the place, so for me it was more frustrating. Now it is easily manageable.
I won't cut it until it goes grey and I have to dye it (I think dye would damage it). Somehow being described as 'that girl with the really long hair' feels so much nicer than being described as 'the really tall girl'. It's kind of a disguise. Sorta :) | |

(at that time, it was well below my butt).. she looked at me & said "r u sure?".. i said "if u don`t do it now.. i`ll change my mind & walk out".. she started 2 cut.. i had started 2 cry.. lol.. after i had that done.. i went into a store (that i had gone into quite a few times) & was asked 4 ID when i asked 4 a certain brand of smokes.. lol.. was the last time i was ID`d.. *sighs*.. | |

Posted: 7/31/2006 6:41:17 AM | My hair was long just about my entire life until I turned 20 with the exception of one bad bad bad haircut where I got the notion to go short and make it easier on me....well I never had such misery in my life, I was not a fussy girl so to have to gel hairspray and curl and recurl and spray and spray some more was torture to me, I let it grow up....then I did it again in university--I never learn lol
My hair is short now but just because I don't like to wait til my hair grows out past that "awful stage" so I always go and get it cut again, I'm going to try to let it grow this time, for the simple fact of I like low maintainence hair care and short sure doesn't fit that bill......I miss my throw it in a pony days | |

Posted: 8/2/2006 7:33:47 PM | Well... I have LONG HAIR... my face looks much younger than I am.. I act younger than I am and the only thing that really gives me away is the GRAY in my hair but I refuse to color it.
I think that myth about women needing to cut their hair after a certain age is BS!!! My hair is long.. it will stay long. Maybe when I get older (I'm almost 48) I'll just try a new style, like pig tails or something like that!!! | |

Had short hair till about 5 years ago, and decided to grow it long, I've never looked back. I love having long hair. There are so many styles for a girly girl like me to try :) And I discovered my hair is really curly!! Heehee....  | |

Posted: 8/2/2006 9:23:05 PM | I had hair almost down to my waist ... then I cut several inches off just to get it evened out and get all the crappy split ends out. I have naturally wavy hair and the humid air of Hawaii was wonderful. But it dried a lot shorter than when it was wet. 
Now that I live in Arizona with such dry heat ... I only see my waves when I first wash it. I can still crunch it up and let it dry, but once I run a brush through it a few times ... it straightens out.
I've often been asked if I have a perm. I just laugh and say ... oh it's permanent all right.
I love my long hair. It grows fast and as a result, I have had long hair and gotten it totally cut off and just started over again. I have two 12 inch pony tails of my hair stashed somewhere. I also have long ponytails of my 3 daughters' hair as well. | |

Posted: 8/2/2006 10:17:59 PM | I have to laugh and empathize with many posting here. The situations you can get into when your hair is long enough to sit on.... I'm getting ready to have mine trimmed several inches, to just below my waist. Only once in my adult life have I had "short" hair--and that was to the middle of my shoulder blades, so truly only short for me. All my childhood I had a "pixie" cut (1/2" to 2" long) and never looked back once I was able to wrest my haircare from my mother.
Unlike someone else's comment, I think of my long hair as what I have because I'm usually NOT a girlie-girl. No fuss, twist it into a bun on top of my head and push a pen, pencil, or stick through it if I don't have a scrunchy or band to pull it back when I want it out of the way. Lots of sexy, classy options for when I do want to be the girlie-girl, as another poster said. I'll be fifty soon, told I look younger, and think it's ridiculous that age is a supposed barrier to long hair. It depends on the individual. There are girls of 16 that would better with short hair and women of 60 who look glorious with waist length or longer hair.
As to color, there are henna and other botanical based hair colors (which contain no artificial chemical ingredients) for women of any age which don't damage the hair (actually conditions and improves shine) and come in a variety of colors and neutral (uncolored) for those who like their color just fine but would like the conditioning and shine.
Women (and men) should have their hair how they want, however makes them feel good about it and comfortable for them and looks good to them. I most often wear mine up, especially in the heat. Why don't I just cut it, other than my childhood pixie trauma? Because I love that it's almost no maintenance, and I love the feel of it when it IS down, and I love to look down into my man's eyes as I reach up and pull one single hairstick out of my bun and let my hair cascade down to my hips.... | |

When I wash my hair, I don't have to "style" it with the blow dryer and IF I happen to go out in public with it wet.. then people are much more understanding about it not drying.... Maybe because our sole purpose in life is to please ourselves, not men?
I think it's important when engaged in a romantic relationship to only please yourself and not tend to your partner's desires whatsoever.
And guys, this is a cue from the women who only wish to please themselves, by all means, get a beer gut and lay around the house in your underwear and fart. After all, our sole purpose in life is to please ourselves, no women.

I think enough ladies have replied to show you that there are many of us out here with long hair. Looking at all these lovely women (both long and short-haired) has made me realize something--Damn, but many of us look much younger than our years!
Maybe you've passed some by because you thought that they were younger than they actually are?

Also, I have NEVER been with a man who wanted my hair short.. ever... That however would not matter because me having long hair is ME. I've always had long hair and that is something people relate to me.
When I'm with someone, and we're going out.. I will ask him if he would like me to pull my hair back.. put it up.. or just leave it normal. I will also ask if there is anything in particular he would like me to wear... any (I give him a choice of 2) perfume he'd like me to wear.. etc. I am very in tune with pleasing my partner TO A POINT!!! But that is something I enjoy doing is making him happy... but not if it involves making myself unhappy, because TRUST ME.. If I'm unhappy.. he'll be unhappy!!!  | |

It's not about pleasing a man in my life,,, there isn't one. I wear it like this because I choose to,,, it's all about me me me. ;)
I wear my hair up in a knot, held in place with a chopstick, or a single braid, but usually it's pulled back away from my face with a big clip and hanging loose.
It now reaches past my butt,,, do most men find it feminine and sexy? My guess is yes.. a woman notices being noticed.
But, if it's not your thing,,, cool,,, hairdressers have to make a living and they'd starve waiting on me to show up.
Just my 2 cents worth,,,,,

I for one wear my hair short just because it looks much better short then long ,I am very dainty so therefore long hair makes my face thinner looking.Actually when I read your profile I thought you sounded like a nice guy but chose not to email you because of the statement you had made about the long hair and figured you would most likley not be interested because my hair is short.And I agree with you most men prefer long hair to short hair,which is really to bad for us ladies that just don,t look good in long hair.But as far as sexy goes I believe I am just as sexy as the next long hair or not.I am fun to be around and have lots of character.Take Care from carebear4 and I say keep looking till you find exactly what it is your looking for because we all deserve to be happy and longterm is a long time if your not happy.and good luck. | |
