Posted: 4/7/2007 6:36:00 AM | | I don't get many either. An aquaintence however gets a lot. He posted a bogus profile with pictures of himself with a borrowed Harley and spiced up his profile. He also brags about using a picture from 1987. But he gets emails and even goes on dates. Not many second ones, but he gets out enough to get, as he puts it, "lucky" every now and then. | |

But many of them don't lead anywhere. My status is separated. I've been told that keeps a lot of them away. I've been separated for a while now and am working on getting the divorce final. Maybe things will pick up then! | |

Since then the messages are only replies, it is rare that I don't get a reply. the first message is important, so take your time writing it, does'nt have to be long but details help. | |

And the general conclusions were ; mansion , sports car, boat pics( wealth in general) got the most responses. GQ guys came in 2nd while average guys acceptably dressed came in a close third and the nice guys finished last....  | |

You mean someone somewhere has actually invested time and money to research this? WHY? So you can start a ghostwriting or profle coach business?
Or is this just the handwriting on the wall.
If you don't have stunning looks and material wealth, or you aren't willing to LIE and represent yourself as having those, you might as well...what?? Go back to the dive bars? Give up seeking love as a bad job? Or just quietly slip away and shoot oneself?
Here's a kink in your line dude...when I see a profile containing a lot of photos of big boy toys, overly "polished" photos, or an allusion to high income and/or "prestige" occupation, my BS detector automatically kicks on. Don't get me wrong, I still might contact the guy in question but I'm on alert.
Now if your pictures show you coming out of the barn, or climbing out of a beat up pickup truck, and you list your occupation as "sanitation" worker, I know that whatever else you may or may not be, the spirit of Truth is alive and well in you, and that's priority one for ladyc4.
Hey don't KNOCK the trash pickup guys...there's a job that's pretty much recession proof and can't be exported to India, or elsewhere LOL

Posted: 4/7/2007 1:16:38 PM | i've been on this site for about a year, and for about the first 4 months I always just waited and checked to see if someone would mail me first. Well that didn't work out too well I maybe recieved 10 messages in those 4 months. So I have decided to take it upon myself and started writing messages to girls i was interested in. I have had so-so sucess nothing crazy. This site is tough for guys, its a meat market for the women, and since so many people are messaging these lovely ladies i doubt many of them have even read these messages...anyway i'm done ranting....goodluck everyone  | |

i usually get 0 for extented periods of time. ( few weeks of inactivity) and i send out a couple a week just looking for friends. i think the ladies are either so busy answering they skip over me or there afraid that i have some sort of hidden agenda, which i don't. | |

I've gotten one. I don't get messages period. And POF is the easiest of all sites I've been
on. If you go one N e r v e, which requires payment, my profile wasn't even looked at.
I'll state that again. Wasn't even clicked on or looked at. Zero for l a v a l i f e.
Guys.....on n e r v e dot com they had listings, there were 3 men for every woman.
On l a v a there were about the same ratio.
I used to write 'serious' profiles. I have tried everything. About 8 different types of profiles.
The best response I ever got was maybe 4 by writing a complete "A"hole type profile.
That's why I write my profile the way I do. Internet dating is an oxymoron for me.
I haven't had a date in...........................um, can't remember.
So, it's a joke. Really. It is. And my profile reflects that. I could put a recipe up, and
it wouldn't make a difference. This whole thing is a joke for men. UNLESS, you
are good looking, and even then.
One day I sat down and emailed all the attractive women on here.
All of them went unread. UNREAD....lol.
Now, this sounds like a 'pity me' thread doesn't it. Ok. Write a profile for me,
and I'll be totally honest about the responses I get. Remember, I've tried
8 profiles in the past.
Sometimes I don't blame guys for lying through their asses. I don't condone
the behavior. But, really, what choice does a man have considering these
pathetic statistics.
I think this is a great and very valuable thread.
I hope it wakes men up to stop looking for women for company on dating
sites for ever and ever amen. Just STOP.

i might add that my numbers above are fo the misleading variety...the 2 emails i get are usually from two friends i made the first day on here...and the 5 or 6 a day wanting to either comment on a good post or a controversial post in a forum, or just wanting to find out what my dog's breed is, probably don't count for what's apparently relevant in this thread...
if something serious bites my hook, it'll probably pull me right out of the boat, since it's often a week between serious emails, and even then, once i've pulled the teeth hard enuff, i see i've gotten another pic of a lonely old overweight, out-of-shape homely kinda thing, that thinks we'll be compatible because her friends lie to her throughout her entire life telling her she looks 20 years younger...but hey, the ugly ones ask you to dance in the bars as well in real ife...and girls...easy on the eyes does not necessarily mean i'm an easy guy to get along with...lol
i prefer the real scene myself...for all the speed of the internet, this is just too friggin' slow bantering back and forth with emails for days and weeks at a time. The medium can't capture a woman's tone of voice nor her sincerity or lack thereof...i like to think i can size men and women up in real life, since i've made a pretty good living out of doing just that for 30 years...this internet stuff is just way too over-rated and as lifeless and limp as half the women i've slept with...so I'm not expecting to pull a tournament winner out of these waters..
.all these are is what we call the'big-waters' much like the difference between fishing in little brooks and streams, and now we're out in the big waters...meh...fish is fish...it all smells like fish anyway, but there again, we're deprived of that smell on the internet
i too have sent emails, and well thought-out emails, to every pretty lady in our local area that i thought, based on our profile's we had some things in common, which by the way, wasn't a lot of emails...not one response...not one...i guess they're all much too classy for me, or perhaps taken already. My loss or their's, we'll never know
so now i send them out of here. why not? I'm mobile...and in the meantime i work in my career, keep dating in real life, where the hugs and kisses and fooling around on the couch or in the back of the car, are real, and keep learning a little more about life in these forums...
to the canadian guy that posted he's sitting there with no emails...you can either maybe count your blessings, or don't worry too much about it. I've never lacked for dates in the real world, but this is like being in some hyperbaric vacuum chamber on here
and to pay for this treat? no thanks. I already waste too much money on things i don't need as it is
.. my neighbour tells me i'm too old for this nonsense...apparently it's the 20's where the kids are actually getting laid staeady from this site, or even actually finidng partners

That is really sad to hear. I've been on here for a couple of weeks and I get at least 5 a day. You need to do something about it. I haven't looked at your profile because I really don't care. Put a little effort into it. Change things up. Hire a profile writer. Get some glamour shots. Have some confidence in yourself. | |

Posted: 4/8/2007 8:03:40 AM | Pay sites haven't worked for me either. On M a t c h, I got 2 long distance emails and 5 scammers from overseas in one month. That was my only month there too. Strangely enough, when I put a rant about the same thing on my profile there, I got at least a couple more responses. Both were to tell me that I billed myself as separated and that scared people off. But I'm not going to lie about it just to get a date.
There are not a lot of ladies in my area that are in my age group. I email every now and then and get a response about 1 in 4 times. So I just email one lady at a time and see what happens. Mass emails are a bit of a turn off. Individual emails that speak directly to the person are much better. Plus I wouldn't know what to do if I was writing several ladies at one time!
Real life does work out better for me too. But I don't hang out in traditional places to meet women. I've met a few through dancing and a few through being introduced by friends.
Still, it's nice to get an email out of the blue from someone that read my profile! | |

There's usually many more men than women on the sites, and because most of the time women get their pick, most men are left in the dark. Compare the numbers of people who have men listed as favorites to those of women. I have received no messages and i have no people who have me listed as a favorite (NO PROFILE REVIEWS, PLEASE!)... after about 8 months. I've realized that I probably WON'T find the love of my life on the computer, but at least i'm not paying for it. | |

Yes, you will probably not get many "bites" from what YOU consider "the pretty girls" because understand........they can READ too ..........and they are reading you daily. Now I'm not certain how you mean to come across but that's just how it reads....for me! but again, I'm not YOUR, "pretty girls" but I bear listening too because I am a half a brain girl. Now just alittle FYI......what you consider "PRETTY" another man may abhor........so keep that in mind......you do not have carte blanche on labeling what is and is NOT pretty......or what size or shape is or is not attractive. HOWEVER, you do have complete decision over what you will accept and so therefore, be alittle more careful in your diatribe of wants and dislikes and calling people out who innocently email you because "THEY" happen to think well of themselves......as I said before........someone YOUR TYPE is reading and probably thinking.......how mean........or better yet...........someone YOUR TYPE loves how you handled that in here and you have an email waiting from them as I type this.......in which case....pof is matching ya'll up wonderfully!

That, however, does not include the email exchanges with the several wonderful new friends I've made here. One thought my friend had is that my status of looking for "friends" may be the inhibiting factor. If that's the case, I guess I'll just have to be satisfied with the way it's going for me here on POF because that's how I believe I'll find (or he'll find me, or we'll find each other........smiles) the person whom I'd like to believe will be the "last true love of my life"........... | |
