"You see, not only did the attacks help accelerate a recession, the attacks reminded us that we are at war." --George W. Bush, on the Sept. 11 attacks, Washington, D.C., June 8, 2005
"And the second way to defeat the terrorists is to spread freedom. | What do you think about what the US president is doing? Posted: 9/26/2006 8:19:14 AM | "If anything.....I believe any terrorist attacks to come will be under the next administration, a new admin will get off to a slow start and allow this to happen. I do not care WHO is in office, the terrorist groups are going to attack. Bush has kept them off our soil since 9/11 by using the homeland security act. I for one would hate to see the act disolve because a new admin thinks it has run its course. Now a question....Lets say a Democrat wins the White House(I hope Lieberman) and the country is attacked again... How are all those who are against war of any kind going to react? Are they going to go after the attackers or let them slide? What if the attacks come from country "A" BUT HAVE SUPPORT AND ARMS FROM COUNTRY "B"? Do we go after both or just the one? Another question....If a Liberal wins the Prez...how do you think he/she will do on the war on terror? Will they have the nutz to go after whoever is responsible right away? Just wondering ... I know everyone bashes the Right for war...but would the Left not do the same? Diplomacy does not work on terrorists folks...they have to be delt with in terms they understand....they must be eliminated."
Rightwinggoodguy,
You can't in any way give Bush credit for stopping terrorist attacks if there is no proof that one had been planned and that he had stopped it. There is a much better way to stop terrorists than carpet bombing entire cities and stopping little old ladies from bringing knitting needles on planes.
Bush does need to wage a "war" on terrorists. BUT, he needs to bring it to the terrorists, not civilians. Hit them where it hurts. Take them out one by one, break up their networks, stop the money flow, etc. When you start open warfare, you're creating a breeding ground for others to join the cause. I wonder how many men and women from Iraq that had no hatred for the U.S decided to join AQ and the rest because American bombs destroyed their homes and killed their families?
Bush is fostering hate, and it's going to take a long time to sort out this sorry mess. Is that really OK with you?

| What do you think about what the US president is doing? Posted: 9/28/2006 8:19:27 AM | Brandiw,
From what the Intelligence agency reports have said, we are mush more UNSAFE due to invading IRAQ. What the spooks are saying is that we have increased the likelyhood of more terrorist activities.
I liked John Kerrey's idea, covertly and discreetly assassinate the terrorists just like the Israeli MOSSAD does. Why waste money on homeland security and two invasions. The Reserves would be best utilized as the homeland security. We can always let lose some special ops guys on the terrorists and let them do the James Bond thing: Spy and assissinate the bad guys. We have many guys in Special Forces (green berets ) who would be better fit in the CIA as opposed to the spoiled brat Ivy League graduates who do not know a lick of Farsi, Punjabi, Arabic, etc...or even of the cultures of the terrorists.
A typical Green Beret knows about a dozen languages and is trained not only in spying and assassination, but also Psychological Warfare. They also win the hearts and minds of the indigenous people: ie in civic building acitvities, developing a form of government, building them schools, water wells, AND how to train the indigenous people to fight their own battles.

| What do you think about what the US president is doing? Posted: 9/28/2006 1:02:15 PM | (I think they should let us be as we are not part of this war that we have not caused)
It is no secret that I am a democrat through and through, but how dare you say we should "let you be"? Who do you think will be the first country to help you if and when you do get hit by a terrorist attack? I do not approve of the administration at all, but now that America is in this awful war there is no way to just pull out. America helps the Canadians alot, whether you, or any of the others believe it. Maybe we should remember that you Canadians want to be left alone the next time some horrible tragedy happens in your country.

| What do you think about what the US president is doing? Posted: 9/28/2006 1:07:09 PM | | He hasen't kept them off our soil with the homeland security act. Do you know how long it took the terrorists to get ready for the last attack? Listen very carefully, to these people the next attack could come tomorrow, or it could come 1,000 years from now. They don't care how long it takes to do damage to this country as long as the damage gets done. Besides it seems to me that the Authorities over seas are doing a better job of protecting America than old Georgie Bush is. | |

| What do you think about what the US president is doing? Posted: 9/29/2006 8:45:37 AM | There is no WAR ON TERROR. All tgis is constructed by greedy individuals and families who want tomake money out of conflicts and get paid rebuilding the war ravaged countries.
Cheney likes to get paid rebuilding (and overcharging) IRAQ (re: HALLIBURTON). The Bush family likes to make money building up tyrannies and financing conflicts (RE: PRESCOTT BUSH and the financing of the NAzi's rise to power, The more recent Bushes with Gulf War I & II). Rumsfled has an interest in military body armor business.
All these clown are ingoring the domestic agenda. We need to rebuild and strengthen our CROWN JEWELS: the Machine shop industries and the Automtive indutries, and all other heavy duty manufacturing...PLUS the electronic busniess. We should quit giving away the keys to the kingdom. Globalization is a way of WALL STREET (nothing but peoiple gambling other peoples money..why not simply go to Vegas) screwing over their fellow Americans.
America should be about American Job creation and growth...not tax cuts foir the rich. The only way the rich should get tax cuts is if all goes to investing in their plants and captal, AND training their important resource THE HUMAN RESOURCE.

My dad was a vietnam vet and that ****ed us all up(Family). but to know ....actually not know why where there, in my mind. ...for oil or to catch this person or that....He's only making it harder on Americans and everyone else! It just seems to me that going into there was understandable at the time, but now what? We cant back out or we look like wimps(kinda like when your in the 6th grade and you have a bully chasing after you!!) I just say,.......and my opinion is my own, but perhaps Bush should concentrate on America instead of trying to instill "the American Way" with everyone! There needs to be a focus on job loss and the sh&t we're dealing with in the USA! Maybe I lost something here, but isnt he called the President of the United States?!!!! Where is he at?!!

| What do you think about what the US president is doing? Posted: 9/30/2006 3:56:01 AM | I am of two opinions on the job President Bush is doing. Iraq War - mistake Immigration - mistake, not just in his approach to illegal immigration but also H2b visa and legal immigration policies. War on Terror - compentent to a degree Education - right direction but more needs to be done Economy- right in principle lacking in positive action Free Trade policies - way off base in granting free trade with no plus in it for Americans
As far as terrorism it started long before the Bush adminstration took office. You can look at the barricks bombing in Beruit, The USS Cole, The Kenyan Embassy bombing, the first attack on the World trade Center and many more incidents...you can go back to the Iranian Hostage Crisis in the 70's and see that as each act was not dealt with in a strong and convincing manner the terrorist became more emboldened. Will there be another attack in the US or possibly in Canada..Yes sadly that is just the nature of the conflict. Remember that security has to be 100% yet the attackers only need to be successful 1% of the time. So the odds are strongly against us in that effort.
And to touch on something Lady_US brought up. If you want to understand the Saudi link in all this I suggest reading "The Secret Kingdom" by Gerald Posner. It traces the roots of the Kingom of Saudi Arabia and the House of Saud from creation to present. While you may not agree with some of his conclusions it is an interesting look into the islamic mindset.
But keep in mind it is not just the Bush adminstration it is also congress and the judicary that decide the direction that the country is going in. The mid-terms will be interesting and I think the '08 presidential elections are wide open at this point..but that is all just MHO

There needs to be a focus on job loss and the sh&t we're dealing with in the USA! Maybe I lost something here, but isnt he called the President of the United States?!!!! Where is he at?!! ================= Their is still a way out. Egypt made the suggestion to have Arab world broker a peace and let the arab world be the multinational peace keeping force. It would allow the US to save face and slither away with its dignity intact. BUT GWB arrogantly said NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! There is a documentary out there with the USA squaddies taking cam corders out there with them. Most of the male squaddies typically say this is the war of cheese, it is money making war for the few. this means the white house and his rich cronies are getting rich while the body bags come home. I heard we have already surpassed WWII in duration. At the rate we are going, this may start to look like Vietnam (hmmm another FUBAR of a war handled by another idiot Texan...LBJ (comparison and forcast by John Hoag)). I heard this may be a GENERATIONAL invasion (nope this is not a war, but an invasion and occupation) which will last at least 10 maybe 20 years.
I can see it now...Osama bin Laden will have long died of a kidney malfunction with a grin in his face. He is actually winning, we are financially bleeding, yes you and I , the tax payer. And our mom and dads, brothers and sisters, sons and daughters are coming home in vain both mentally broken or in body bags for a war that is making money literally for the very few.
Do your homework, the Bush family has always made money out of conflicts. They are Skull and Boners, what do they care about you and me.
I say why don't we elect the same fraternity that created this country..FREEMASONS. When FDR was in office, he made America into an super power, and he was a Scottish Rite mason on top of that. So was Harry Truman and many good Presidents and political leaders.
I get weary every time a Skull and Boner wanst to run for President. These people are the most elitist, racist (even among there own race), bunch of hooligans that ever breathed air. Just do your homework and research on these people. Many quielty quit or become deactivated because the selfish amorality of this fraternity is runs into conflict with the morals and beliefs of most members. Be warned these are VERY powerful and dangerous people. There are some government employees and honorable military men whose civilian careers have been wrecked. The Bush famil and the S&B's are inextricably linked, make no mistake about it.

| What do you think about what the US president is doing? Posted: 9/30/2006 5:27:01 PM | This president(Bush) is the worst president I've ever seen, and I'm sure he'll go down in history as such. Because of him, the U.S.A. is in the worst shape it's ever been in .
People who lived through the Great Depression would like to have a word with you.
Shame on you if you didn't vote! You live here,so you have an obligation to vote. This president got us into Iraq claiming w.m.d.'s,which turned out to be a lie. It appears he's lied to the american people numerous times.
My fellow DEMOCRATIC Senator John Rockefeller, Vice Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, gave President Bush & Congress the summary of intelligence pertaining to WMD in Iraq. Based on that intelligence, Congress(with a slightly Democratic controlled Senate and slightly Republican controlled House) voted to invade Iraq. So the Democrats I voted for in turn voted to invade Iraq.
This must be a record. This country is broke, and living on money from other countries. They buy our government securities, guaranteed by the U.S. Our #1 debtor is Communist China
You can give thanks to my fellow DEMOCRATIC President Clinton for granting China Most Favored Nation status & signing NAFTA into law.
There used to be a separation of church and state. Thanks to Bush, not in his administration. He's a born-again Christian. So is Sen. Frist, the Rep. majority leader. And the Speaker of the senate(House?)and many others in the Repubican administration. Very scary. I'm all for religion, but we MUST have this separation as it always was.
There still is. Please read the actual 2 clauses concerning this in the 1st amendment. Two clauses in the First Amendment guarantee freedom of religion. The establishment clause prohibits the government from passing legislation to establish an official religion The free exercise clause prohibits the government, in most instances, from interfering with a persons practice of their religion. Nothing states that one cannot espouse their religion publicly, even elected officials. It only states that one cannot establish an official gov't religion.
Bush claims to talk to God! Doesn't this scare you?
Not any more than Hillary Clinton stating publicly that she talks to the spirit of Eleanor Roosevelt. God would probably give better advice than Eleanor in my opinion.
Religion seems to have taken over the Republican party. Make it your business to vote in every election. And PLEASE VOTE DEMOCRAT! Maybe, maybe it's not too late.
Take it from this Democrat....Dont take others advice

| What do you think about what the US president is doing? Posted: 9/30/2006 5:44:26 PM | Please get your facts right. Ike Eisenhower had the US troops (ie advisers, or better yet MACV Military Assistance Command Vietnam) sent to Vietnam to "advise" the ARVN's (Army of the Republic Vietnam). JFK had in mindto pull the plug and send the boys home. Unfortunately someone decided to play hardball and thus ended JFK' career.
My fellow DEMOCRATIC president John Kennedy ran for election in 1960 on the promise of peace, goodwill & prosperity. He won the election partly on that "promise". In 1961 he introduced troops into South Viet Nam. In 1963 he supported a coup to overthrow the elected goverment of South Viet Nam & the assasination of its president(..didnt know that, did you???). The Viet Nam conflict has begun.
My fellow DEMOCRATIC president Lyndon Johnson assumed the presidency in November 1963. At that time there were 17,000 troops in Viet Nam. By 1965 there were over 200,000 troops on the ground. At the end of Johnsons term, over a half-million troops had rotated through Viet Nam. Total American deaths:56,000+
Disgraced REPUBLICAN presidents Richard Nixon & sucessor Gerald Ford were responsible for reducing troop levels & eventually ending the Viet Nam conflict.
I take it you are a NEOCON or a die hard Republican
I take it you another BLIND Republican/NEOCON supporter
Im tired of seeing this NEOCON slur posted over and over. Its a catch phrase that has become an embarrasment for Democrats like myself. Are you a Democrat?? It doesnt sound like it. It sounds racist, spiteful and hateful. If so, then please leave the party and start your own.
If you insist on calling conservative Republicans NEOCONS, then I reserve the right to call you an AD-LIB(Adversarial Liberal). There is no room in my Democratic party for AD-LIBS.

| What do you think about what the US president is doing? Posted: 9/30/2006 5:56:47 PM | In fairness, there were more US Servicemen killed in Nixon's administration that in Johnson's and Nixon expanded the war to include Laos and Cambodia. It will be argued for centuries whether the war would have continued If Kennedy had not been killed. None of us will ever know, however John Kennedy's closest advisor, his brother Bobby became one of the leaders of the anti war movement and the entire Kennedy family was in opposition to it.
Neo Con is not a bad word and I believe was coined by the group of people, Republican, who the label fits. It simply means that they do not hold fast to the "Old Fashioned" Republican ideals. They labeled those that do, Rhinos.

| What do you think about what the US president is doing? Posted: 9/30/2006 6:04:24 PM | As soon as Nixon came into office, troop levels started dropping from the Johnson administration levels. That was a campaign promise of Nixon's. I was an up & coming high school teen during that time & remember it well, since I was looking forward to being drafted upon graduation.
As far as Laos & Cambodia, the US Mission was mainly a B-52 mission in support of SVA troops entering, with SVA troops taking most casualities. We mainly carpet bombed.
Kennedy was asassinated 3 WEEKS AFTER he ok'd the overthrow & asasssination of South Viet Nam's President Diem. Ironically you should have asked ..."If Kennedy was asassinated EARLIER, would things have played out considerably different"??
Its the Senate Intelligence Committee's job to organize information & present it for debate & vote in Congress. I still have no idea how former Texas Republican governor George Bush takes the blame for something that career Democratic senator Vice Chairman John D. Rockefeller OKed & presented to Congress. Of the 92 YES votes by the Senate to invade Iraq, the makeup of the Senate at that time was 49 Republican, 51 Democrat, & 1 Independant. The MAJORITY of MY FELLOW DEMOCRATS voted to invade on the summary of intelligence presented under the guidance of fellow Democrat Rockefeller.
|
| What do you think about what the US president is doing? Posted: 9/30/2006 7:15:59 PM | | The Senate Intelligence Committee gets its information from agencies that report to the President. The CIA now says that the President ignored their advice and only used the parts that he want to. For insatnce they warned him that the Nigerian connection was bogus as well as other key issues. The senate was given faulty information from the President and that is how that works. The Senate voted on the information given them, There is every reason to believe now that the President deliberately mislead them. Read Bob Woodwards new book. | |

| What do you think about what the US president is doing? Posted: 10/1/2006 1:05:56 AM | I was under the impression that it was the other way around. Most of intelligence is NOT gathered by the president....He is the president and thats what the CIA is for.
The CIA was responsible for most of the intelligence & where it came from. The vote in the Senate was a direct result of the intelligence report compiled from that intelligence. The president is sort of out of that loop, so to speak.
Who was CIA chief during this period??
George Tenet.
It is clear that he is one of several responsible, and he was a Clinton apointee in a Republican Administration, being sworn in June 1997, during Clinton's presidency. That in itself is fishy to me.
The vice president noted in August 2002 that “Simply stated, there is no doubt that Saddam Hussein now has weapons of mass destruction.” One month later, in September 2002, the president said, “The Iraqi regime possesses biological and chemical weapons.” After those speeches, CIA director George Tenet—a holdover from the Clinton administration stated in the new October 2002 estimate in its summary of “Key Judgments,” that “Baghdad has chemical and biological weapons.”
Rockefeller is privy to any and all intelligence that the president is. He has the authourity to hold briefings with the various intelligence chiefs as chairman of the Senate intelligence commitee. From what I hear everyone say, all he did was rubber stamp what the CIA supposedly handed down...anybody could have done that....but it was his job to gather information to present as summary. That is/was his job. He seems to not have done it then. If he did do it, then he was basically duped by George Tenet and the CIA.
If one thinks George Tenet may have been pressured to write a faulty estimate, then the blame again falls on George Tenet the way I see it. Applying pressure would be wrong, but perpetrating a false report is criminal. Being he was a Democrat, I find it hard to believe that he would bow to the Republicans, unless he had an agenda. Perhaps that is why he eventually resigned...???
Its all pretty weird to me. Perhaps I dont understand it all, but I am surely not going to swallow some controversial fishhook that seems to be floating on the waters of discontent of this presidency. Theres far too much poison floating to take a bite.

| What do you think about what the US president is doing? Posted: 10/1/2006 10:10:11 AM | Neopol,
JFK had Preisfdent Diem of Vietnam assassinated because he pretty much represented the interests of the aristocrats AND JFK gambled that the Vietnamese military leaders had their countrymen's interests in mind. A necessary evil at that time (a hasty decision if you ask me).
I am of neither party but do have democratic leanings. As for the Neocon wording, that is something the Republican party uses and they use it proudly.
If you want to know why our country is losing credibility, especially by being a bully, please read Chalmers Johnson's book: Blowback, and Sorrows of Empire. We have a boy emperor. not a president, in GWB. He is trying to revise, or tear apart or sacred institution, THE US CONSTITUTION. Also he is stuffing cash into his family, freinds and cronies especially with heavy links to the Military Industrial Complex (MIC). Also we have too much secret intelligence networks. We have a secret governement that is well managed by D.ick Cheney. This likely means that TRUE Republic is dead. We are heading to what I call a Plutocracy/Oligarchy, rule of the rich and powerful. The Pentagon holds power now, not the populace. I feel the American people should take back their government.
I am not an "AD-LIB" but one very pissed off US Citizen who would rather see more products MADE IN THE USA. More industrial plants created and opened up, College trained jobs kept in the USA not India or China. This bozo, GWB, is giving away the keys to the kingdom. One day we will wake up with Asian or European OVERLORDS calling the shots.
We have the GOP saying we are the fiscally responisble party...well guess what, they dominate both the house and the senate, and they have led our country to a fiscal road to ruin. We have acquired massive debt. I beleive we are approaching the $10 Trillion dollar mark.
To remedy this, we have to: 1. Abolish the Federal Reserve Board. 2. Abolish the Inerrnal Revenue Service (a lackey non federal agency that is the Fed's dog. 3. Have the US Treasury in charge of the money supply and be the sole minter of money (as it historically been). 4. Return to partial or complete return to the Gold standard.
Since the Fed is basically making money out of Hot Air for the few, this would be technicaly very easy to do. Since no gold was never involved, but only the fleecing of the American people. Please read THIEVES IN THE TEMPLE.
The US citizens (ie , the people), not politicians, are the ones who should have more control. Why should we let MIC and the Pentagon take and hide money.
Why is it, that the American people, who are so kind hearted, have to threatened or killed, all on account of selfish greedy and unscrupulou few who cause all the problems?
I take it you sound like a very knowledgeable person.
But my observations, have me very disappointed if not very angry at the current situations.
I consider myself a very well informed person and do care about my fellow countrymen. That is why I think and say the way I do.
