men who can fix anything(your thoughts)Page 2 of 5    (1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
Speak for yourself, boys. I avoid "white collar" men like the plague. It's one thing to be "edjucated" and an entirely different thing to be smart. I'd much rather have a man around that actually could fix things and use his brain along with his hands. I can do alot for myself, but it's nice to have help and I'd rather have a man that could do it rather than just pay someone else to do it.

Ok, here is the truth-----I enjoy TRYING to fix things, but I really appreciate it when a fellow gives me a break and FIXES it for me! It might be a little shallow but, I'll gladly cook the meals if he fixes the washer!

And I understand that not all ladies want a fellow to fix stuff,,,,but really I like the thought of it!

Wow, talk about bashing intelligent men. As if being smart or educated made you somehow incompetent with a hammer and a tape measure. How positively Orwellian.

I am fairly well educated, but it didn't stop me from owning my own computer business, nor did my father's Phd stop him from having his carpenters papers.

I can do carpentry, plumbing, electrical wiring and am just as competent under a car as belaying off and working 110' in the air (it was a fun way to cure a fear of heights), built sheds and taken down trees. None of them got me laid, although some of them got me very sweaty and horny....LoL.

Mrs. Fixits? No problem. Even a girl in sweats with her hair tied back and paint on her from, duh, painting is sexy.

Why is it every time I read a thread we are discussing issues as if they are polar opposites? Why it that there is a misguided notion that an intelligent and/or educated man is useless with tools?

My father had a Masters in Psychology, was multi lingual and at the same time built two beautiful homes, fixed his own cars, flew a Mosquito in WW2. My Boyfriend is too smart for his own good, yet can fix anything. It doesn’t always have to be one or the other… DOESN’T ANYBODY GET THAT????

"Polar opposites"...

That is because it makes for a good read… like drama makes for good tv…

Isn’t it great how “do you find a man who can fix anything around the house is sexy” can turn into this…

What I know: Being skilled at using a hammer doesn’t mean you can’t read a book.
Reading a book doesn’t mean you can’t be skilled at using a hammer… doesn't have to be any more complicated than that.

Now, put that dictionary down and go hang that picture for me… please...

Woah Dawn, no need to yell. Both you and DK seem to be reading more into my post than I said. So let me clarify. I didn't say that a "white collar" couldn't be smart or handy, and yes, I am throwing a general coverage out there but, generally speaking they are not. I'm sorry if you don't like that view, but that's been the majority in my experience and in many other women’s I've spoken to. It's just a simple observation from working in a corporate world and dating from it, too. And besides, there's a heck of a lot more to it than that for me.

Women's feelings/thought processes are so complex it's hard to tell. I frankly dont think it has anything to do with it. Even if they choose a dumb guy (as they often do) they will compensate that by "befriending" a handyman.

Even though women finds handymen attractive, it has nothing fo do with it. Some of them figure out how to get it done by playing the friends card.

True story more than once

Actually, for me and many other women I know, that is not true in the least. I do find it attractive for a guy to be handy. I personally would never "befriend" someone to do it. Though, there is nothing wrong with being friends with someone and having them do something for you. That's what imo friends do, they do things for each other because they are friends. On the flip side of it, I would do it myself rather than befriending someone just for that specific reason. I've managed to completely remodel many areas of my house. One of them being my kitchen. I completely gutted it, installed new oak cabinets (completely relaying the whole design of the kitchen), a new deeper sink and faucet, laid down porcelian tile, new baseboard, drywalled, mudded, and sanded areas that needed it, stripped wallpaper and painted.

I personally think guys who can fix things are great!

Then we can work with our tools together because I like fixing things too. It's always good to be able to "speak the same language".

What I don't like is guys assuming that I can't fix something because I'm a woman and then botching up the job for me.

A nice little saying is : "If it an't broke don't fix it! If it is broke fix it, if you can! If it is broke and you can't fix, it get someone who actually can fix it to do it for you while you watch and learn!"

Just IMHO.

hmm,on fixin things....depends, some can and won't, some can't and try, some can and do,and some 'can't and won't' ...I seem to get the 'I can but won't' types...where are all the 'can's and do's' type or at least the I can'ts but I'll try guys?
But the most important thing to remember is...if you don't have a clue, please admit it, and don't please don't go ahead, pretend like you can, and fuc it up!

can we rephrase it a little??? A woman with a man who thinks he can fix anything?

One that can actually fix things? And not have it fall apart 2 weeks later? Sign me up-I'm tired of doing it myself(or paying someone to).

Just like a man always knows the way, right?

Boy I am glad I am handy with tools if for no other reason than to save the expense of having to throw something out. I had a speaker go bad and was able to fix it with a re-foam kit some glue and a knife. I had to pull the whole speaker apart to fix it. Did it work was I sucessful?

Yes I was, it worked perfectly.

I think theres a certain appeal to anyone who is ...capable.
So, if you can look good doing it, you just scored extra points.

C'mon now! To say that educated people are "slow" with everyday tasks and problem solving skills is an unfair statement.

I have a bachelor's degree and I still taught my daughter how to change the muffler on our old car. (while my ex sat and watched)

Fixing things just goes along with things like houskeeping, both parters need to put in their fair share. That's the most attractive part, the initiative.

My .02
It's sexy....Especially since I have several "put together backwards" projects. Hey they worked....just could've worked better. Definately a turn on to not have to call a plumber, electrician, mechanic etc....but unfortunately I have seen these men get used by women...but not by me.
