| Italy, best places to go Posted: 10/2/2006 9:51:40 AM | | Ahhh... I'm going to Italy next year for my annual birthday trip. Where in Italy has the best food? I'm sure the food is just obscenely good everywhere, but where in the country really stands out? I'm thinking of Tuscany, but are there any better options? | |

| Italy, best places to go Posted: 10/8/2006 9:07:56 PM | I have been to Italy a few times and I would have to say that a small city in Tuscany is the best. I think it is called certadalo near Siena. There is a hostel there that is the best in Italy and it is just so realxing and fun. | |

| Italy, best places to go Posted: 11/13/2006 7:03:31 AM | The Italian Riviera is lovely is you want to be by the water. Cinque Terre is not to be missed. Actually if you look at my profile you'll see 3 or 4 photos from my trip there. I also quite liked the beach in Lerici. It's a cute little resort town where people park their boats.
For the poster wondering about food, if you're a steak-lover, head over to Florence and have the "bistecca a la Fiorentina" which is available at a lot of the restaurants. Best steak I've ever had [wish I could remember the name of the place I ate mine]. It just looks like a plain slab of T-bone, but the flavour is incredible! My friend and I really enjoyed the restaurant Acqua al Due" in Florence. There seemed to be a lot of tourists there, which I usually see as a warning sign, but the food was delicious and the atmosphere really nice too.

| Italy, best places to go Posted: 11/13/2006 2:41:19 PM | Ah, Italy, my first love when it comes to travelling, and the country that made me want to see more coutries.. The neighbourhood of Trastavere in Rome has wonderful trattoria-style food - not too expensive, casual, and of course delicious!
Other places in Italy worth visiting: the isles of Capri and Anacapri, Pompeii (so beautiful!), Sorrento, Florence. I never made it to Venice (wanted to avoid tourists) but I've heard it's a must see, especially before it sinks! I think Sienna is worth it too, very unique history and a contrast to Florence in many regards.
Oh Italy, how I wish I was with thee!

| Italy, best places to go Posted: 11/14/2006 6:46:58 PM | My mom was born in Reggio Calabria...right at the tip of the boot. It's a fun and happening place...discos on the beach and stuff.
My dad grew up in Sicily...what a great island!
You want beaches, southern Italy is less "touristy" and the beaches are nicer.

| Italy, best places to go Posted: 11/14/2006 7:36:16 PM | | Hey, I went to the Almafi Coast and stayed in a little place called Ravello. It is absolutely gorgeous! Sorrento is amazing too. You can get to the island of Capri from there by boat and it is incredible. It is on the Bay of Naples and you can see Mount Vesuvius from the coastline. I have some nice pics for paintings. Check it out on the internet. | |

| Italy, best places to go Posted: 12/17/2006 7:55:14 AM | Sicily, visit Sicily! You can go to my hometown, population 10. LOL, actualy I think Florence is beautiful. Venice and Rome and stunning and the most popular places but Florence...with it's unique art galleries and historical places..wow. I'm lost in dreams now. | |

| Italy, best places to go - Venice is a must see Posted: 12/18/2006 3:11:25 PM | | I spent 2 weeks in Italy and Tunisia 2 years ago - went to Florence and saw David ( go first thing in the morning - worth the trip) spent Easter week in Rome at the Vatican, saw the Tower of Pisa but the absolute best was Venice. Only had a day there but you have never experienced anything quite like it. | |

| Italy, best places to go Posted: 12/21/2006 10:50:36 AM | Roma! You can't go to Italy without seeing Rome. I was there for a week during the summer, and it is hands down my favourite city in all of Europe! I lost myself for 10 hours just wandering a city, and I never had any regrets, everywhere you walk there's something to see. 2000 year old monument here, 400 year old fountain there, just an amazing city.
I didn't get to see an oceanside town, but I've heard the coast is amazing, the seaside towns are supposed to be great for relaxing and seeing the scenery. Cinque Terre would be my seaside recommendation, since every person who I met during my trip who went there said they loved it.
As for cities to miss, Milan. Unless you want to go shopping, there isn't anything special. I'll go back there only to watch an AC or Inter match, but otherwise, no way.

| Italy, best places to go Posted: 12/26/2006 7:32:44 AM | | Although I didn't get to Cinque Terre myself while in Italy, a couple of people in my tour group did a day-trip there and said it was amazing. Worth going twice actually they said; once by foot along an unbelievable trail along the cliffs that take you through the five towns; twice by boat - dissembarking by using amazing docking techniques on the rocks. Very interesting when the seas are rough I imagine :-). During the summer, the rocks are full of people catching some rays, like walrusses apparently. I visited Rome, Siena, Florence, Venice, Umbria, and Assisi in 2005. I highly recommend touring Italy and would go again in a heartbeat!!! | |

| Italy, best places to go Posted: 1/4/2007 7:29:00 AM | | I totally agree with you, sugetek. I was only in Rome for 3 days but could have easily spent a week there. So much to see and do! I was in Milan for only a handful of hours (stop-over) and, you're right, there's not much to see. Although there are a lot of towns/villages worth visiting that are relatively close to Milan, Lake Como for instance. Really posh area from what I hear. Has anyone been? | |

| Italy, best places to go Posted: 1/16/2007 7:56:58 PM | | I was in rome for a day and a half, the place totally rocks, would love to go back. Italy is one of my fav european countries. | |

| Italy, best places to go Posted: 1/20/2007 2:00:33 PM | | Venice is one of the most awesome cities I have ever been to. You can walk around for hours and find a new street or dead end. If you go make sure you stay at a hotel close to St. Marks that faces the water. Also, make sure you see the Adriatic Sea. Plus the Alps are great to see in the winter when there is snow. | |
|
| Italy, best places to go Posted: 1/27/2007 10:55:13 AM | | i just returned from italy... Cinque Terra is a place that should not be missed.. it is five fishing villages that are located on the northen Medittereanean coast.. you can hike from one village to the next.. its totally awesome!!! | |

| Italy, best places to go Posted: 1/27/2007 6:46:55 PM | Italy is magnifiscent. My best friend and I went the Christmas break 3 years ago. Rome was huge, and a crazy city to drive a rental in, but amazing... Florence is such a romantic city, and great for shopping.
But Venice was, for me, the most incredible. The ferries, and gondolas, and cobble paths... the shops and, well it's very hard to explain. But try to picture sailing down the Grand Canal and seeing a huge Catholic Cathedral rising up from the water. The front steps of the church walk right down into the water, and the very large dome roof holding court over the peacful waters.
Really, anyone traveling to Italy must experience Venezia.

| Italy, best places to go Posted: 2/2/2007 4:21:41 AM | Visit the Amalfi Coast! If you have not seen the movie "Only You" or "Under the Tuscan Sun" then rent them this weekend. Both have parts filmed in Positano. While Positano is perhaps the most famous of the towns on the Amalfi Coast, there are other quieter and less expensive and ....perhaps alittle less crowded places.. take a look at a great site exploring-the-amalfi-coast dot com and see for yourself. I am going back real soon, well, as soon as my broken heel is better. I am thinking in May...Ciao everyone! | |

| Italy, best places to go Posted: 2/5/2007 3:21:45 AM | | Visit as many places as you can! Not just the big ones either (Rome, Florence, Venice ect ect ect) check out little places I loved Aviano, Pordenone, basically everywhere in tuscany. I would have loved to go to Verona. Even though I am not Christian I still enjoyed the beauty of the Basilica's. I believe it is the Italian Naval Academy you can see acrossed the canal when standing in Piazza San Marco. Make sure you get to any smaller towns market day... | |
