He is true punk rock in my eye! the 101ers, the Clash, the Mescaleros, and all of his other projects were just briliant! His music has influenced generations of punk rockers with the way he would seamlessly blend sounds into creating something new. That's what "PUNK" is! "Something New". I saw the movie documentary on him "THE FUTURE IS UNWRITTEN", and that only made me miss seeing him even more!
In the clips I've seen from previous interviews with him, he was an intelligent, well spoken man, and I'm sure I coulda learned lots from him!
In the song Indestructable, Rancid sings "I keep listening to the great Joe Strummer, cuz through music he can live forever"
