Do guys with cats stay single forever?

My brother had a cat, then he met his wife, she had a dog. They have been happily married for 9 years. They now have 2 cats, 2 dogs and a horse. They are both animal lovers. The orignal cat and dog has since passed on.

They did a study, and pet owners are more resposible people then non pet owners.

IMO it's not whether the man has a cat or not, it's how he treats it that speaks volumes.

Spumoni, Good point! I have noticed the same thing. The guy I spoke of with three cats wasn't very manly or agressive. He was more metro. He nor the cats were my kinda party. I wish I would have saw this forum first. He was nice enough otherwise.

My bro got a cat for the same reason, works long hours. I got a cat for the same reason as well.

A man with a cat cleans out the litter box...this is a good thing....hehe.

Now if the guy is dressing the cat up in little fru fru outfits..well, that I would take as a red flag.

Other than that, stop analyzing everything to death. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

I’ve had several Cats over the years, and they beat the Hell out of dogs as pets (and a couple could literally take on any dog you’d care to put them up against)

All of my Cats have been the indoor/outdoor types, I have a cat door so they can come and go as they please, that way there is no litter box to deal with.
All of them seem to be excellent judges of people, if they didn’t seem to like someone, usually I found a reason eventually to not like that person as well.
Way easier to care for, rarely do you have to bathe them if at all. (unless you are masochistic)
More Independent, I have an auto feeder that holds about a weeks worth of food & water, so I can go away for a weekend and I don’t have to have someone come over and check on them.
(This just happened as the girlfriend and I went to Mexico for 4 days, her son was supposed to come check on her/his dogs while we were gone, he didn’t, it was 106 degrees outside everyday we were gone, the dogs were hurting by the time we got back, the Cat ? he was fine, just kinda looked at us like bout time ya’ll got back I’m tired of this dry food how about one of them little pouch’s?)

And the number one reason is they are “FREE” (I mean seriously who buys a Cat?) they show up one day in the yard, you let your kid feed it, it sticks around till a bobcat/coyote gets them, (or they just move on) you go a couple of months without one till another one comes along.

So guys with indoor cats arent as "manly", according to some of you? What if he lives in an apartment complex? What if the cat is declawed? What if you want to keep the cat from getting into garbage & coming back needing a bath?

This is one of the most absurd ideas Ive ever heard, and being on these boards awhile thats saying something! What are you classifying as manly? Someone who bench presses twice his weight and walks around with grease in his hair from working on his motorcycle all day? I hate it when women throw that term around. "Manly". If he has a penis, he's a man. Sheesh!

And all this judgment because of the pet he chooses, no less. If guys with cats are single longer, its because of shallow-minded women not getting to know the "person" simply because of an unfounded prejudice. Which seems to be the real issue here, anyway.

I have found that there is a distinction between inside & outside cats. Men with outside cats are usually more manly. Men with indoor cats are usually more metro. The operative word is usually. Every rule has exceptions. However, I never thought of this before, and I'm glad I read this thread. Men with house cats always turn me off for some reason, and now I know why.

My opinion is that cats need to be allowed to roam.... if its safe for them.

Unfortunately its not very safe in most areas any more. The cats tend to become road pizzas.

The cats I have... are always indoors even though I live in an area that would be less dangerous for them than most...

But the ones I have are somewhat odd cats.

They are twins... Thier mother was run over by a car (I think when they were about 3 weeks old...)

Mom took them home from the vet (she was taking my brother's cat in for shots... and the kittens were taken to the vet while she was there)

I started out taking care of them for my mom... and ended up with them living in my house.

I force-fed them with an eyedropper for several days then bottle fed for 4 weeks.

The male didn't learn how to jump up on a chair until he was 5... The female isn't much brighter.
(they STILL won't eat unless I am in sight)

Can't give them away... no one else would put up with them.
(they'd probably starve before learning its OK to eat if I'm not there)

And... I'm not going to take them in to be put down while they appear to be generally enjoying thier lives.

thats so cute. and caring.

few years ago i took a pair of kittens from the shelter, one had birth complications and was mildly retarded (walked into stuff a lot, would eat anything even plastic, would talk to himself), he was a very loving creature. (sadly died just over a week ago but his brother is doing fine).

i think i agree with the above about indoor cats - metorsexuality, i think you have somethign there.

I was seeing a guy with 2 cats. We were having a great time...I was liking it, a FWB deal. Only a couple months, very casual. When one day he seemed distant, I asked him if he wanted to continue. He wasn't that interested and said 'He didn't want a girlfriend' (which I wasn't trying to be but he wanted to make the point) and he said he
WAS HAPPY IN THE COMPANY OF HIS CATS.

I think you are definetely on to something.

That's the dumbest thing I ever heard, what does a person's choice as a pet have to do with others being interested in them as partners? The things people spend their time thinking up to cover up their own insecurities.

Ladies, if a guy is using a pet to compensate for a real relationship with a real woman he is trouble. The kind of pet has nothing to do with it. If you believe the kind of pet is relevant, you are foolish and should be single. Pay attention to how he behaves with that pet. Can he differentiate between the needs of his pet and the needs of his woman?
To what extent are you willing to accept a person's needs to satisfy themselves, at the expense of yourself?

Nah, guys with cats aren't destined for permanent bachelorhood.

We can have most any woman we want (if my female cat will let me).

wow i never thought of it like that. compensating for your relationship loss with a pet. AND i know a guy like that.

Just had an epiphany. I just thought he was embracing his gay side finally.

Guy threw me half naked out of his bed at 2am after falling asleep cos the dog had to get in and sleep with him and wouldnt share with any other female. - now it all makes sense.

I also know a guy with a house cat that is about 22 lbs...the bigger the cat the bigger the problem...I've never seen him with a woman and not even gays look at him.I suspect he's a Communist too.

Not true in my case. I adopted a cat when I was 19 and had her for 17 years. During that time I got married, divorced, and then was in two long term relationships. I have been mostly single since my cat died though...

I'm all for a man with cats. I love sea monkeys. The last time I had some monsters (those were some HUGE ameba), they lived in a fish bowl (because their little plastic condo was much too small) and the ex's dog got thirsty while I was at work. Massive casualties. No self-respecting cat would stoop to lapping sea monkey water ~ they want the good stuff. (If "he's" into that, I'm likely going to be into him.)

Here is some food for thought - maybe those metrosexual types get a cat and make them indoor cats to make them conform to their lifestyle???? (rather than the other way around)

I do believe that many women view 'owning a cat' as a sign of not being 'a man', not manly, gay, etc.... Whatever. LOL

People have their stereotypes that they like to employ.

Cats don't need someone to be home at a particular time or they cr@p/pee on the floor. Cats can get by without a human to take care of them several times a day. Cats can keep your house and yard free from things such as mice and moles (mine is awsome in that respect eventhough she is 18 y.o.)

Too, some do not like cats because they are less needy than, say dogs. This aloof nature tends to bother many people.

That is all.

Folks - don't read too much into the nature of an animal/pet. I rather look at the flip side of it. If the 'human' can't deal with an animal because of their 'feelings' about them. Says far more about the 'human' than the pet.

Some people are fearful of dogs - perhaps of a memorable childhood incident. I do not fault someone for being afraid of a dog barking aggresively. I have never seen a cat become agressive to a human. There are some breeds of dogs that are breed and known to be more aggresive. Not too many communities have 'leash laws' for cats.

I don't have to worry about my cat taking a bite out of someone that wants to pet her. As a matter of fact, she loves the attention and kids just plain get a kick out of her.

What if someone owns goldfish??? Or worse. Fancy guppies!!!!! OMG!!! Lions and tigers and bears - Oh My!!!! I would check to see if they have a collection of show tunes and tap shoes. LMAO

Get a grip folks. LOL No -better yet - get a life.

I am okay with my masculinity being a cat owner. If you have a tough time with that - too bad.

Stereotyping and prejudging people is pretty lame.

You know what is really quite funny - ironic even. Animals do not have it in them to do this to humans.

Now, I ask you, who is the 'dumb animal'????

great post, stevelfun!!

As for those who have been dumped in favor of the animal ~ blame it on anything you like but, face it, he/she just wasn't that into you!
