| Northern Michigan Posted: 5/20/2007 7:54:10 AM | Let's have it in middle goergia, lol Peace-Out | |
| Northern Michigan Posted: 5/20/2007 8:12:21 AM | I'm still a little confused.
By "Northern Michigan" do you really mean "Northern Lower?" I haven't seen a lot of U.P. chatter in this thread and that's more what I would have expected from the title. Of course I'm well south of all of you, so I can't claim too much authority here. I just wondered if you might throw a bone to those above the bridge and have it someplace close to them too.
Maybe that's just unrealistic though. I do enough traveling to the western U.P. to realize how many hours it can take to get to the bridge from there.
I guess that Georgia guy is getting bored or something.
| Northern Michigan Posted: 5/20/2007 11:09:32 AM | onderzoeker we havent decided on a location as of yet. We are northern michigan just in the lower. I know there are a few people in the u.p. on POF. Id like to know if there are more from the u.p..maybe they can give a shout on here. I camp in the u.p a few times every year. I know for me to drive from here to the kewenaw takes a little over 7 hrs. It would be nice to have one in the u.p also for people up there and others who like to travel up there. | |
| Northern Michigan Posted: 5/20/2007 11:12:31 AM | Wolfie I know Georgia is a nice state but this is Northern Michigan forum.. luv your humour.... | |
| Northern Michigan Posted: 5/20/2007 2:02:05 PM | I didn't mean to pick nits, I just know how the Yoopers can feel left out a lot.
I have a son at MTU so I know all about that drive, and I like the Ontonagon area when I can get over there too.
They're starving for tourist trade with gas so high the past few years. Might be interesting to see what sort of a 3-day weekend package might be possible to put together to help them out while giving lower Michigan POF folks an outing, and offering all of us a meet-up. There have to be a few people here interested in the sights, some hiking, some of the local color.
Munising is fairly central for up there, and it has stuff to keep people busy for a day or two (after considering travel). My guess is you'd want to be closer to the bridge though for any U.P. outing, to encourage more participation from folks down this way.
I sort of wish they hadn't blacktopped over those stretches of red and then green pavement between Seney and Munising on 28. My kids always liked the novelty.
Sure, there are Fish up there. Probably a lot fewer though. After all, one of the big attractions is the thinner population.
| Northern Michigan Posted: 5/20/2007 3:50:51 PM | onderzoeker, I know what your saying. It is very beautiful up in the u.p. I camp north of Seney. I have been going up there since I was 16, so that is many, many years. Munising is a nice area, with the waterfalls and Picture Rocks. But you have admit that stretch of 28 from Seney to Munisng is alot smoother now. I know it is very nice over towards Iron Mtn. and the Porkeys. So it is a good idea to maybe have one up there this summer, once it ever gets warm again. Maybe some yoopers will let us know...heck, Id even enjoy camping for a few days . But, I also know alot of people don't do camping... | |
| Northern Michigan Posted: 5/20/2007 5:38:23 PM |
But, I also know alot of people don't do camping... I thought people who "don't do camping" weren't ALLOWED to live in MI? Don't we like banish them to...well, middle Georgia, for instance?"
What you might look for would be a campground/resort that also has cabins, or facilities for travel trailers and RVs as well as traditional "rustic" camping. But Lordy the price of gas!! Let's face it kids, people with 6figure incomes don't NEED dating websites...let's get real we all know that money can't buy happiness but it can buy enough stuff( including companionship and sex) so's you don't NOTICE that happiness is absent LOL. Anyway, let's keep thinking and talking! Cindy O
| Northern Michigan Posted: 5/20/2007 7:22:03 PM | I tend to avoid those RV traps - er, camps. LOL!
I had an experience once that felt like "camping" in the K-Mart parking lot. Some guy next to us flipped on his porch (flood) light and started strumming and singing drunkenly... at about 2 AM. But with fuel prices I wonder if they're all parked these days?
Still, maybe a place with camping and close by motels might help accomodate everyone?
Gas is high, but I can still get to Houghton on one 13 gallon tank. Glad I bought a hybrid back in 2002.
Which Georgia is he talking about? The U.S. state or the former Soviet state?
| Northern Michigan Posted: 5/21/2007 2:21:37 PM | | I don't know if any of you are familiar with Indian River....but there are several state parks and non-state parks that camping is done...and several motel/hotel facilities too. Maybe that would be a possible location....and it would be close enough to the U.P. that if they REALLY wanted to come down...they could. | |
| Northern Michigan Posted: 5/26/2007 1:17:31 PM | I know Indian River some. It is nice around there. And not too far from me. I have had a few suggestions, and even one about it being at ST.IGNACE...so we need somemore ideas... | |
| Northern Michigan Posted: 5/30/2007 7:25:51 AM | Well....when the time comes to organize this thing....IF you need help...just let me know. If it is gonna be in the Gaylord/Indian River area....I can look around and try to help locate some places for the actual meet. Or for that matter...help almost any way you need. I'm sick of being bored......LET'S PARTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | |
