For those looking for potential shackup pals, perhaps it would be a good screening process enabling you to go thru your visual checklist..maybe a good laugh about how how nervous we are......but I would not expect anything meaningful to come of it.

Going to the POF Beach Party in two weeks, that's kind of similar but, thank God, without the expense or the pretense. And I think we are dragging along a friend that won't sign up for this site, so everyone behave and hide those (I was going to say second heads -- but that doesn't sound right, extra digits... no....) shots of tequila, yeah, hide the tequila. That's it.
Zippy.... I identify completely, and not to top your story but I went with some work buddies to a gay bar and got a man's phone number. Like you, we didn't stay in touch, but you can just imagine how fast that tale got through the workplace. Another ribbon on my dating uniform, getting attention from gay men and women alike. LMAO | |

It seems like window shopping to me, strolling through the mall and looking without committing to a purchase. This speed dating thing would likely be best for those who make a fast first impression. For those of us who like to take our time, it is over too quickly. | |

Actually, that six minute dance can be very informative....
Eye Contact - Close up or avoid?
Holding in arms - Does she 'fit'?
Dancing style - Stiff or fluid? Close or near? Where is her left hand?
Sense of humor -If we stumble...do we laugh or feel the need to appologize?
Intimacy - Does it feel like we are the only ones on the floor or concious of the crowd?
Timing - Do we wish the music had not ended?
Adventuresome - How does she react if I spin or do something unexpected?
The above are all non-verbal communications which I think would tell me loads more about a woman than any 6 minute, stopwatch conversation could. | |

Posted: 8/4/2006 2:21:42 PM | Speed dating I did it and I will tell you it was fun for what the experience was. As you know the concept is to get people together and quickly get through the bull to narrow done the unwantables in your dating experience...
What I like about the experience. First everyone there new this wasn’t going to be the nite to get married but to have some fun. That was the first expectation was to just have some fun. Now people can take this speed dating for what it was worth.
Here what I found out. Most women will not come alone they bring their friends and the experience is now something they share for gabbing with friends afterwards. In short it sort of a contest of what gal can get the most attention. Which is so often the case anyhow in any mixed environment on women and boys?
Second the men were out to see if there were potentially any easy kills. OK, I could butter this down but I am over 40 and let call a dime a dime.
Third the few that were there to expand their possibilities of meeting someone were very fun.
I find it remarkably interesting that our group 40 and older has problems meeting each other as in women and men. However the environments that were use to using bars and similar environments so often bring us in contact with losers or undesirable companionship.
OK, here what I would purpose for those of you daring let us get a group of people and do this speed dating ourselves, we are old enough to moderate this little shin dig and have fun with it.
It was allot of fun and really I met gals that I definitely would not have met without a medium as event to do so.
My vote is…. Yes if it bring people together in a safe environment what is wrong with that.

If I went on 5 minute impressions I'd be friends with all the wrong people, I know that much.
I suppose you could have fun out of it if you put on your freaky hat and tried to see how much you could disturb a complete stranger within 5 minutes. | |

you can say, "hi, how are you?" to 10 different people right? afterwards people mingle in a party like atmosphere.
IF you think you MIGHT possibily be interested in someone you CAN check their box. but of course you don't HAVE to. IF that other person ALSO checks that he might be interested in you he can check your box.
you have allowed them to give your contact information to him. (your telephone number) IF he calls you may decide to exchange e-mail addresses and e-mail each other for 3 and half years. after which time and before meeting you might have your entire family meet his entire family and report back to you individually.
if that meets with your approval you may google him and have a police check done and then have 1,553 telephone conversations with him.
then you may decide to meet but not call it a 'date'. you may agree to a 45 min. coffee but find after 10 mins. you are bored cause you already know everything about him.
no one is forced to date anyone and you are not expected to leave the event and immediately start dating.
personally i would go for less e-mails and telephone calls then i listed here. but that's a personal choice. | |

Posted: 8/6/2006 6:06:01 PM | i can be kinda fun if you go into it with NO unreasonable expectations........i did it 3 times (i go by my 3 strikes principle) and i didn't meet anybody that i cared to contact again, BUT this isn't to say that the women were all losers (or vice versa).....there were a good number of decent pple trying to find someone...there were many educated pple there too!.....its just another venue in trying to find a partner.........it is neither GOOD or BAD.....its is what your experience defines it to be!
if anybody were to my advice....it would NOT discourage them from going! | |
