| Donairs Posted: 8/5/2006 10:30:37 AM | | I remember this great donair place that was downtown on 7th Ave. in a real dump of a location half way between Centre and the Bay on the south side. The building is still there (and still a dump) but I know it is some other business now. Glad to know there are a few good places close by to work, I might just have to go check them out. Haven't had a donair in a long time now. | |

| Donairs Posted: 8/5/2006 10:30:59 AM | Hey Sambo...your to funny, was good to see you last night but you snuck out without sayin bye!!!!! lol lol. A donair is a pita wrapped around strips of beef, chicken or lamb with some veggies and tsiiki sauce...they are awsome!!!!! See you later girl. | |

I'll second that. Where else can you get a donair made by a singing Lebonese cowboy?
Love that guy, he is so quirky it's great. Used to go there, plus served him at RBC when i worked there.
|
| Donairs Posted: 8/5/2006 11:07:21 AM | ^^^ Jimmy is great... love the falafils at AAs.
There are TONS of donair places in Calgary... I can walk to 3 from my office if I wanted to at lunch.
|
| Donairs Posted: 8/5/2006 12:17:45 PM | | donair express.....118ave. and about 86st... the best i've had in e-town. | |
|
| Donairs Posted: 8/5/2006 12:40:13 PM | In Edmonton, Queen Donair on Whyte Ave and 105st is good, but Charles Smart Donair on Whyte Ave and 91st is the best in the city. Don't avoid the sauce. Embrace the sauce.

| Donairs Posted: 8/5/2006 12:50:27 PM | | Charles is ok too..... | |
|
| Donairs Posted: 8/5/2006 12:51:11 PM | | ^^^^i second that charles donair on whyte and 91st is the best in edmonton so far... queens donair on whyte is second... then there is a place on 51st and 99th... or maybe its 97th... and did anyone know that donairs were originally called gyros... pronounced heros... greek in origin....blah blah blah geeky girl... | |
|
| Donairs Posted: 8/5/2006 5:34:56 PM | Theres a really good shop on the east of town in the industrial section. The name escapes me for the time being, but take a look for it, its worth the hunt. Theres also a shop just over the tracks (on the east side) of Whyte ave. Again, I havent been there in along time, so I cant remember the name. I just remember those being the best.
What I want to know is, where else but Edmonton can you find a Hot Philly. OMG I love that place, but I cant find them ANYWHERE else!

| Donairs Posted: 8/5/2006 7:07:18 PM | first of all....i've had donair express and that place is "yuck" no taste at all... if you want good donairs there's only one of 2 places i'll go now....
1. chomps in callingwood or 2. simon king on 91st street and 51 ave
yum yum yum.... | |
|
| Donairs Posted: 8/5/2006 8:53:21 PM | Not sure who said there weren't any donair places in Calgary, but there's 3 within walking distance from my office.
1) King Tut (11th Ave & 12 st SW) - Pretty much average tasting, and a little bit more expensive than some others. 2) Sarah's (11th Ave & 10? st SW) - Not so great IMHO 3) Can't rememeber the name but it's on 17th Ave near the spy store. Only been there once, it was totally average.
And there's a Schwarma King opening up soon @ 14th & 16th Ave.
That said when we decide to go for Donairs/Schwarma's we make the trek to Jimmy's A&A. I remember one of the last time we went there the 4 of us ordered everything without tomatoes. He threatened to call our mothers...
(Just to be on the safe side, order one size smaller than you normally would. The portions are huge!)

| Donairs Posted: 3/19/2007 1:45:09 AM | I'm gonna have to agree with my sis on this one,
simon kings is awesome, charles smarts has a good donair but nothing compared to the ones at roadrunners pizza and I remember going to Chomps once, I got the guy to make me the biggest jumbo donair he could, he told me that I'd never finish it, I love proving him wrong LOL
|
| Donairs Posted: 3/19/2007 3:04:00 AM | | Best one I've ever had was from Spruce Grove, they advertise the SECOND BEST DONAIR IN THE WORLD, but I think it should be first. | |
|
| Donairs Posted: 3/19/2007 4:00:45 AM | Best Donairs I've ever had was at the Food Court in Kingsway Garden Mall in Edmonton. Haven't been in years though. They also had amazing Bougatsa. | |
|
| Donairs Posted: 3/19/2007 10:09:11 AM | Great donairs at a little shop in Eau Claire market, in downtown calgary, awesome and good price too... there is another place just north of 16th ave behind the home depot too...
Best donair ever was in edmonton though....soooooooooooo goooooooooooooooodddd

|
| Donairs Posted: 3/20/2007 12:21:42 PM | | Donair has spiced beef that is cooked on a rotisserie for a long time and shaved off to make your sandwich. Shwarma is chicken that has been broiled, not as spicy, but they both are wrapped in pita with yummy sauces, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, sometimes pickled cabbage and hot peppers. Excellent with a nice bit of taboulli on the side. Yum | |
|
| Donairs Posted: 3/20/2007 12:24:14 PM | A Donair is something so freakin yummy that even on a date I will eat one, too bad for him if he hates onion breath.....
but what is even better than a Donair.....
SHAWARMA!!!!
Shawarma King in Kensinston and othe one on 14th and 17th (Mountroyal?) both are awesome, and yes they have donairs too......but who can resist a good shawarma???
Now I'm hungry for anything with lebanese meat....hmmm, that sounded so wrong!!
OE- vvv **Runs to find the spring fever thread** vvv

I think you want the 'Spring Fever' thread...
Castle Donair and Pizza on Elbow in Kingsland Plaza is most excellent.

| Donairs Posted: 3/20/2007 12:28:50 PM | MORE SUBS-WEST END
Football size donairs!!
HUGE and yummy, awesome for hangovers~!
|
| Donairs Posted: 3/20/2007 12:37:16 PM | | ya'll are killing me....so craving a donair now | |
|
| Donairs Posted: 3/20/2007 1:21:26 PM | Only donair I'll have is the donai subs from Sub's and Such in Calgary (61st Ave and Barlow Trail SE). And it is only because the rotisserie/heater is always glowing red.
If the donair rotisserie/heater doesn't glow, I'm not buying it. I don't care how good the donair is. Something about ground meat left out in the open and bacteria.
