| Dating outside your race! Posted: 8/4/2006 7:34:36 PM | Wow, a lot of close minded people. As long as I'm attracted to it, I'd date it. Blue, Purple, etc... | |
|
| Dating outside your race! Posted: 8/4/2006 7:35:19 PM | who would date a hot chick?
I never really had much interest in hot fowls, with the exception of the odd pheasant. However, room temperature or cooler avians or reptiles....mmmmmmm, they give me a woody.

| Dating outside your race! Posted: 8/4/2006 7:39:11 PM | | You don't have to be "close minded" to date within your race an culture. It's just part of the "attraction" factor. Someone can otherwise be very appealing, but whether it's their hair color, intellect, religion, or race, it all adds up. | |

| Dating outside your race! Posted: 8/4/2006 7:39:40 PM | | Considering how easy and cheap it is to travel, I wonder how long it will be until the concept of "race" becomes genetically irrelevant? How long until we become one homogeneous group; truly the human race? | |

| Dating outside your race! Posted: 8/4/2006 7:43:21 PM | | For once in your life you are right FrogO. Just because youre not attracted to someone outside of your race doesnt not mean youre RACIST. It only means that you have a preference....... | |
|
| Dating outside your race! Posted: 8/4/2006 7:44:24 PM | Homogeneous group?
Huh? How'd the topic change from talking about interracial dating to talking about a group of really smart, non-straight men?

| Dating outside your race! Posted: 8/4/2006 7:50:23 PM | homogeneous group? never going to happen. Why not? We were once, before spreading out over the globe. As travel becomes easier, the globe is effectively shrinking w/r to genetic diversity. Eventually the genetic differences between people will shrink to the point of complete irrelevance. | |
|
| Dating outside your race! Posted: 8/4/2006 7:53:03 PM | We turned animals into a global village too and most don't seem to see eye to eye either...
case in point. | |
|
| Dating outside your race! Posted: 8/4/2006 7:59:04 PM | | How so? Animals aren't free to interbreed, the distances between populations are too great; consequently they're only a global village as far as we (humans) allow. | |

| Dating outside your race! Posted: 8/4/2006 8:02:05 PM | | Actually, it's questionable if we WERE homogeneous once. Asians share a number of traits with H.erectus, an Asian species. I'm not sure about Caucasians, but I suspect there is a history of genes shared with H.neanderthalensis, H.antecessor and H.heidelbergensis. The genetic evidence is that Africans are FAR from being one race per se. Cladistically, Asians are a derivative of Caucasians, and Caucasians are one of many African lineages. With so many lines still easily recognized within Africa and the tendency for modern cultures to mix mainly among themselves wherever they go in the world, It's quite possible that the relatively scarce intergrades will never amount to much more than they have historically. I suspect that the tendency to to be attracted to your own race and culture is partly a genetic trait. The fact that the standard races are so easily and universally recognized indicates that at least the physical differences are real, meaning that genetic and cultural differences are at least partly real too. That could be enough to drive them further apart evolutionarily. | |

| Dating outside your race! Posted: 8/4/2006 8:22:36 PM | ^^^ up 3. While I don't doubt that H.sapiens are a mix as you say, if we go back further surely we branched from a common point, or sexual reproduction would be impossible? (Dammit Jim, I'm an engineer, not a biologist. ) In any event, that's neither here nor there. While it's true there are genetic, and hence physical differences between the races, I don't believe the cultural differences have any basis in genetics. As an example, I have no doubt that, were I to raise my family in Japan, my great-grandchildren would be culturally indistinguishable from someone Japanese through 10s, if not 100s of generations. And that is my point: in this day and age, one can easily conceive of moving to Japan and raising a family, something that wasn't true even 100 years ago. Thus the world becomes a "melting-pot". At current technological levels, I believe genetic homogeneity among humans is inevitable, the question is how long might this take? | |
