| Phobias Posted: 8/5/2006 3:05:20 PM | For someone who is a strong swimmer and loves to snorkle, mine is really odd. I am terrified when I get out of my depth, only conquered snorkelling as a trip to the Maldives was held out as a kind of carrot. I used to be terrified of anything going over my face, so being able to wear a mask and snorkle was a big step for me, but I still panic when my feet can't reach the ground.. wish I could overcome it.
My phobia of for deep water is even more stupid when you realise that I spent my childhood surfing of the Cornish Coast.

| Phobias Posted: 8/5/2006 3:19:59 PM | I have an inordinate fear of heights but as someone else mentioned on here it is more to do with a fear of falling over the edge - precipices just aren't my thing, but this fear only developed since I had my children (oddly)...can't handle them getting to close to the edge.
I also have a fear of being ignored, blocked and deleted, also a recent phobia so I get in there first or like to imagine that I do.

| Phobias Posted: 8/5/2006 11:28:51 PM | demeter ive only been afraid of heights since my kids were born-my stomach turns if they stand on my nans balcony and one of them is 13 lol in fact most of my fears have been 10000 times worse since having my children..i think its natural. | |

| Phobias Posted: 8/5/2006 11:51:25 PM | | I am not so much scared of heights, but more of the sudden stop at the bottom if I were to fall. | |

| Phobias Posted: 8/6/2006 12:29:38 AM | >Heights make me go a bit dizzy (Not fun when you are 6'7" and everywhere is a long way from the ground!!! LOL)
Same here. I can explain it. Bridges are horrible because of virtigo. The draw on one side having absolutly nothing but a drop and in perifrial vision sees stable ground on the other side ends up off setting equilibriam.
Other things that cause this 6'7" giant to quiver are small Paris Hilton 'dogs'. From this perspective of way up here They can be easily mistaken for mice or other small rodents and while I'm not afraid of rodents I dont want to step on one of these things by mistake cause I dont want to have to deal with a Paris Hilton type person mad at me. That just creaps me out.
Another thing I find unnerving is those tiny little cars like Steve Martin drove in Pink Panther. You must have seen them. They're like half a car. I mean 1)what happens if you peel out of a green light? Do you end up on your back? 2) See referance to Paris Hilton 'dog' 3) They look like something I can pick up and drag across the carpet a few times reving it up and letting go until it hits a wall.

It isn't so much as the imagined squish under one's foot as it is that both your brother and his girlfriend would be upset at this.
Advice: When ever this 'doy', 'dog', 'mouse' is around take a seat. Keep your feet firmly planted on the ground and smile.

| Phobias Posted: 9/22/2006 6:12:05 AM | mine has to be wave machines in swimmingpools I was dragged under by one of them and could see the 6 foot fans churning away luckily bars where between me and being minced and yes I am a strong swimmer. China dolls or any doll and clowns always remind me of the film IT. and I don't mind heights as I'm only 4"10 so even standing on a phone book makes me feel tall. Oh and wet wool that really makes me shudder as well as placing my hands under something when i can't see what i'm doing (seen some accidents in a factory years ago) hmmmm bugs I can handle tho bar flies can be a nuisence hobo snails I dislike(slugs)but don't fear | |

| Phobias Posted: 9/22/2006 7:52:27 AM | | I don't like spiders but I wouldn't call it a phobia. My real phobia is a fear of waxwork models, they really scare the sh1t out of me. Related to that is the fear of china dolls. At least I can mostly avoid my fear. Although visiting London can be a bit of a chore when Tussauds are advertising on the Underground. I get sweaty and shakey just seeing pics of the models. | |
