Anyway, whilst that message really didn't add anything to 'the discussion'
The OP asked me a question, and I answered it.
I noticed that you did the same.......
WRONG!!!!
It IS a fear of flying, crashing doesn't come in to the equation for the majority. Yes that fear of crashing may be a contributory factor, but it is the flying, being in the air, being enclosed in the small fuselage that is the phobia.
How can you possibly claim that the quoted post is 'wrong'?
You have no idea how I view flying (I enjoy it, FYI) - my fear is of 'crashing', as plainly stated. Please don't tell me that I don't like being in planes!

It's not a fear of 'flying'.......it's a fear of crashing!
Yes, it was a fear of crashing that I had, particularly on take off, plus the feeling of being out of control, not exactly as if you can get off at the next stop. When I was in the air I was fine, landing was fine, just the take off and the feeling that the plane was going to crash I hated.

It's not the crashing part for me, it's the dieing part...

| Phobias Posted: 9/4/2009 4:37:21 AM | | I used to be scared of flying and for me it was a control thing, basically i was stuck in the back with all the other cattle and had no control over anything and copious amounts of vodka simply weren't helping so i nerded up on avionics and everything to do with flight, why the engines change revs in mid flight etc etc and even had a flying lesson ...which was bloody terrifying.. but at least now if it all goes wrong and the plane is hurtling towards the ground at 600mph while all around me are kissing their ar$es goodbye i will have a pretty good idea why. | |

| Phobias Posted: 9/4/2009 5:06:53 AM | I like flying....it leads to an adventure.
My fear is things round my neck; hate scarves, big chains or those silly college pass things I was supposed to wear with a plastic card on a long tape that goes round your neck and dangle down your chest - showing everyone an awful photo ident inside. I refused to wear it point blank.
Even my coat zipped to close to my neck can bring an uncomfortable feeling of wanting to rip the coat off! Silly, I know.
Can cope with insects, slugs, spiders, heights..... I suppose phobias stem from an earlier upset or experience that builds up over time and creates unwanted reactions.

| Phobias Posted: 9/4/2009 5:13:51 AM | Tallastrees, my boyfriend has that neck phobia too. Its very annoying. I was intending to strangle him but now I will have to think of something else. I have two phobias. Snakes. They disgust and terrify me. Vile serpents. Drought cracked land. Just typing that and thinking of how it looks has brought me out in a cold sweat. Totally irrational. | |

| Phobias Posted: 9/4/2009 5:22:34 AM | | Oh I couldn't cope with a neck phobia! Nothing nicer than having your hands on a woman's neck, gently caressing and kissing every part of it, before squeezing your hands tightly around it, as you are fecking her brains out! | |

| Phobias Posted: 9/4/2009 5:57:54 AM | I have a phobia of the sea!
I dont particularly like flying, but it wouldnt stop me going on holiday, I get in a panic and do the dry vomit thing in the sick bag, and sweat and talk crap for the whole journey but I do it. On a journey to new york, I spent the entire 8 and a bit hours watching the little plane fly over the map and breathed a sigh of relief when it flew over land! wtf!!!! my head knows we would have more chance of survival if we landed in the water but I cant help myself! I dont like the eurotunnel, only been on it once, and would NEVER go on it again, a fear of all that water on top of me, and if a leak happened, no chance of survival!
My fear is totally irrational, seen as though I passed my life saving many years ago. Since Ive had the kids its terrible. I won`t let them swim in the sea at all when they are with me. on a recent outing to portland bill, I wouldnt let them mess about near the rocks, in case they slipped and got stuck in water pools! I see danger everywhere to do with the sea, and I have been known to sit on the beach facing in land so I can not see whats going on in the water. One night I went for a stroll along the beach with an ex boyfriend, and it was so dark and the sea was so loud, I honestly thought a tsuanami was coming, and we had to get back in the car.
Its stupid really, because I love the beach, just cant swim in the water.
Another fear I had when my husband left, was of change. I like routine, and change scared the hell of me, but time has changed that, I have done so much more, and been to so many places on my own, that I have over come that one!

About the only time I can keep it in check is when I have to take my son in for his hospital visits... Funny how love can override a phobia
