Lots of people share their homes with "things" that "slither", and they sometimes walk upright on two legs, too.......

what would my cats say?
"""""I just cant wait for mommy to come home. to pet me, rub my belly, let me sit by her. And I will wash her, and purr for just her, and be there just for her.
But she better by hell, have my food and water bowls full and the litter box clean."""""

two of my dogs are on their last legs. one says scratch me, hold me, feed me, i pooped on the floor, clean it up. the other says, take me out and let my watch the birds. my cats say where is the pheremone spray so we won't fight. don't buy the chicken fancy feast for awhile. the outside ducks say, get up early and feed us so we won' t have to fish. the blue jays say, we don't like this last bag of birdseed. replace it! the bugs say thanks for not stepping on us or swatting us and taking us outside. my kids say, having the pets helped us to no longer be afraid.

what do i do about all this? make sure if i can't be home that the neighbor lets them out. or get one of my kids to petsit or hire a petsitter.

all living things require "maintenance". plants, kids, friends, community, pets, significant others, et al. usually the a person who truly cares about living things, does not have a problem with all this. if you travel, well then... please donate to the aspca or wildilife organization of your choice. then while you are at it, try different organizations that tend to world hunger, environment, amnesty international et al.

many ways to give. rely "ONLY" on your pets for companionship? well, i guess that's an individual choice. it doesn't follow that having a pet or pets means you suck at relationships.

My pets say that I attempt to be a good negotiator and a peace maker. Simon is 10 months old and is going to be neutered soon. He is about as stubborn and hyper as any male kitten that I have ever seen. I spend some time every day trying to stop the bickering between he and Bella, my 2 year old calico. I wonder if they even argue when I am not around, as they both are always trying to gain my attention. She was MIA for 3 months, during which time Simon came to live with me. It has taken her several months to learn to stand up to him and claim her territory ( usually me and my bed). This morning I put him downstairs and left her upstairs in my bedroom with the door closed. They were both exhausted and needed to sleep and Meowmy needed to get some chores done and eat breakfast in peace. He is now sleeping with his head curled up with his paws on his favorite chair downstairs (cat-friendly as it is covered in a soft blanket), and she is curled up snoring in a similar position upstairs in the middle of my bed. How my mother ever got anything done when my siblings and I were toddlers is a miracle to me, as she became a mom to 3 children in a 4 year time period.

And what does your choice of pets say? If you have a dog, as I do, you need to be there for him 2 or 3 times a day. Cats can be left alone for several days, and other "unfurred or unfeathered" pets require less in the way of maintainence. And, does the type or breed of your pet say something about your personality?

What do my pets say about me? I have a "Heinz 57" kitten whom I rescued from a home with 9 dogs and 11 cats. She was pretty much a lump of unwanted fur, left to scavenge for herself. She is now queen of the house and her loud and constant purr has us all wrapped around her little black paws.

I recently acquired a mixed breed minipin pup. His owner couldn't sell him and since he can pretty much be held in my hand when he curls up, she thought it wouldn't be much of a loss to drown him so she wouldn't have to care for him.

What my pets say about me is that I am happy with my life right now and I'm not looking for a full term relationship. But I'm a compassionate person who loves animals, can't stand to see anyone unwanted or abandoned, has plenty of love left to give, is not class (or breed) conscious, generous enough to pay the $250 deposit plus $30 in extra rent per month, plus food and maintenance (not to mention time spent) to give two unfortunate animals a home and make my kids ecstatically happy.

But that's just me.

My 2 doggies (rottweiller mix and lab mix) and 3 cats, all rescues, are an essential part of my life. If people can't accept that, well, geez, ah, that's unfortunate. On the other hand, I have found that, while driving around with two big dogs staring out the window, they can certainly be "women magnets" So, all things being equal, it's a wash!!! Don't worry, be happy!

It has also been proven that pets help improve mental and physical health. I don't see the down side to owning a pet.

I have two cats for now. They are much easier to care for in cases of extended time away from the house then a dog would be. I'll eventually have a dog again. A larger variety. I am waiting until I get back into the home ownership thing again before I do that. They need a yard to run in and the town house I have just doesn't have that option.

I much perfer pet lover type of people, they are has a rule, kinder and more relaxed then people who don't want pets . Thats just my percpective.

I have an apricot toy poodle who "adopted" me 11 years ago; she always stays near me, acts as a friend/watchdog, "guards" me when I'm sleeping, and doesn't get up until I do. She's well-fed, groomed, taken outside for walks several times a day, and is very affectionate.

She's in great health, given her age, but has developed cataracts; this necessitates keeping the light on when I retire, so that she can see well enough to jump up onto the foot of my bed. I asked the vet if surgery would be a good idea, and she said that she wouldn't want to try such an invasive procedure on a dog her age.

Humans could learn a lot from my Annabelle.

I've always believed a pet teaches us how to be patient, playful, and responsible for another being whom seeks only love and basic needs in return.

albert schweitzer said " until he extends his circle of compassion to include all living things, man himself will not find peace".

i have always had animals in my life and now live with an insufficient amount of them...one mighty 16 year old jack russell and a magnificent manx cat. would have many more if the situation allowed. they have taught me to communicate without words, to be patient and see the value in all living things.

i view them as totems, healers and familiars, not as objects or commodities and do judge people on how they treat the animals around them.

Agreed with the cats--I have two as well, so they keep each other company. I adore them both, and let's face it: when you live alone you have to have someone to talk at!
Ah gads, I am turning into the terrible joke about the old cat lady!!!!!
I had a dog, adored her--but was too busy to care for her, and after my divorce gave her to some very good people.
Given the choice, I would probably stick with cats, mostly because they tend to be discerning, and I like to think that they chose me!

I have 2 cats - what does that say about me? That my daughter knows I'm a sucker. Both came from her because I sure wasn't looking.

I have three rescued pits and who are very well trained. What does that say? I'm compassionate. I'm dedicated. I don't know. What does the breed say about me? I guess I a big clown like they are. I'm strong willed and loyal.

Uh... why would you think having a pet makes us losers? My dog is my constant companion. Through her I've met some really cool men who also are hiking with their dogs. My dog forces me to get up off my butt and walk with her. She tags along when I go to the beach. She goes to the mall with me. She's a beautiful girl and makes it very easy to strike up a conversation. (and no, she's not a toy, she's a big ol' mutt). Also my volunteer work with shelters allows me to meet even more people... all of whom have potential either as a date or as a contact for a date for someone they're friends know.

Now I do have a dog walker plus friends who love her (and love to take care of her) plus I live in an area where dog sitters/cage free boarding facilities are plentiful AND she's an older dog so she is patient if it takes me awhile to get home. But I'd not really be interested in any man who hadn't had a pet at least for a period of time. And my dog is a great judge of character.

You say you have a dog, but do you really? It doesn't sound like you like him very much.

I have four dogs. Actually, I personally have two dogs. The other two belong to my daughter. I have Lilly, chihuahua, and Daisy, Chow/Lab mix. Both are rescues. What does this say about me? I am capable of loving and caring for something other than myself. Daisy is a draw for men because she loves everyone but Lily, not so much. She usually distrusts men deeply as was abused. In some regards their personality mirrors mine.

Interesting .... if find I am drawn to people who have pets or love animals. People who don't like animals I find I actually don't trust them. I think having a pet simply means you have taken the time to care for something other than yourself. A lack of selfishness.

Yes they sleep on my bed, but they don't have to be there.

Yes, he watches

If you have a pet...probably the first thing I will do is play with them. I am a lover of animals.

I guess it comes down to.... don't like my pets....don't like me. They will still be there after you are long gone.

HUGE 2nd on everything you said, Claypot. Based on my screen name, i guess its easy to know that I am a dog owner and lover. I have two pugs and sometimes I feel like they hold me back from doing some things that i want to do because they require so much attention. however, I dont mind the few inconveniences and I would not trade my dogs for the world. they are amazing little pugs that have been with me through some really tough times. Anything that I have not done, or anything that I have given up because of them is well worth it and I have no regrets. I love my puggies for now and for always!!!

i took a quiz on web md. i lost points for the fact that i didnt own a pet , despite the fact that i lead a very healthy active lifestyle. their claim...single pet owners are healthier and live longer too. it makes sense to me.

I also gravitate towards those that love animals myself. They also know what it is to be responsible for those that they love and adore.. They are not usually all about me type of people.. and usually touch is something they need in their love.

Besides the above facts I have my own built in sound machines.

Now what could possibly be better!

It should be a profile question "do you have pets?".

I can not imagine getting serious with someone who is not an animal person. To me that says so much about a person. When I was in high school (way back in the day) my psychology teacher brought one of her kittens to class and let it wonder around. I was amazed to learn that some people did not think it was the most adorable thing in the room! One girl was actually creeping out and making all these noises about how it was freaking her out and get it away from her. You know-like some girls would do with a snake or a bug (not to offend those who have these as pets-I was never on eof those girls but I don't have them as pets either).

I understand the poster who referred to his big dogs as a magnet for women. I almost always just naturally gravitate towards any dog in the vicinity.

I have a dog and 2 rescue cats. My dog was (is) my constant companion when I first divorced and had to deal with not only no longer being married but having my daughter at her Dad's half the time. She has also helped keep me in good (well ok)shape. And she is a natural force against depression. She is a Corgie and is the sweetest dog I have ever know. The cats, well they are just fun! My daughter only had dogs until we adopted them and she is so in love with the little furry cuddly dudes. Of course I made sure to get brothers and not any ****y little female cats . I haven't had much luck with them in the past!

My other name is Handmaiden-to-Dogs. Anyone that thinks they can be more important than my dogs is delusional. They give their entire lives to make mine better. What human would do that? As someone above said, they were here before you got here and they'll be here after you leave.
