| People, of our age, alone...what do our pets say about us? Posted: 11/7/2008 10:07:01 AM | My snake hisses at me a lot. My aardvark varks a lot, but mostly at strangers. My talking mule has often said: "Well, dummy ?? ... You gonna spend another Saturday night here with me, again ?? ... Don't you have any of your own kind to hang around with ??"
But all my pets love me at suppertime.

| People, of our age, alone...what do our pets say about us? Posted: 11/7/2008 7:47:33 PM | | I currently have 2 dogs, one is mine and the other belongs to my 14 yo son. (His is the Jack Russel cross). I also have a number of lizards, a fish tank, and growing up I had 2 racoons a skunk, Anyway I wanted to be Marlin Perkins when I grew up. I just wish I was wealthy enough to get a farm for all the critters I wanted. | |

| People, of our age, alone...what do our pets say about us? Posted: 11/8/2008 6:02:52 PM | As I said, I have this pet talking mule – named Charles. We’re kinda close ... a man and his mule, you know.
Anyway ... we were sitting out in the barn last night, knocking back some Jack Daniels, watching the game. He’s a big ‘Rams’ fan – I think it’s all the fur and the attitude. And right in the middle of the second quarter, he put down his bucket of oats and J.D. and said:
“You know, old man ... we’ve been sitting here a long time – it goes back quite a few years now, but I’m really beginning to wonder about you. You say you go out on dates. But every time you do, you come back to me the next day, saying the same things: ‘She was too short. Her hair wasn’t the colour I like. She wasn’t what I wanted her to be.’ And when you’re not dating, you sit here week after week, whining about your ‘ex’, all your hard-done-by stories that I’ve had up to here [traces hoof across forehead], how you don’t like this, don’t like that ... and then you take that same attitude out there again for another week, thinking the result will be different.”
“I mean, I have no problem with it, personally. I’ll sit here and chow down on fine Jack Daniels whiskey and oats till the cows come home (literally) ... but really, old man ?? ... You have the nerve to call me an ass ??”

| People, of our age, alone...what do our pets say about us? Posted: 11/8/2008 9:02:15 PM | I have had dogs, but currently have a cat. My daughter claims that the cat is the hit man--errr--cat for the mafia. Tootsie is very independent and brings us presents regularly. Mice, one time bunny feet, and yes, I'm sorry but I have to say it. My pu$$y brought home a wood pecker. It was a brown one, it almost looked like a small owl when I first saw it on the porch.
We thank her for her gifts--don't let her bring them into the house, and then toss her presents in the dumpster.
She sleeps at the foot of my bed part of the time, when she decides it's time to get up, she gets on my pillows and pulls my hair! I get up and let her out, because she also meows very loudly in my ear until I get up and let her out. The only way I can get any sleep once she starts, is to let her out.

| People, of our age, alone...what do our pets say about us? Posted: 11/9/2008 5:35:44 AM | | My new 10 week old Tuxedo cat is precious. Thankfully, he tested negative for feline AIDS and Leukemia, but had worms and earmites, which have been taken care of. He has now owned me for 2 days, and has already figured out how to whine to get his way and slept next to my pillow for a bit last night. I am sure he will not end up being spoled rotten. His name is Simon, and Ava the calico girl is arriving tomorrow. | |

| People, of our age, alone...what do our pets say about us? Posted: 11/9/2008 9:33:17 PM | | Nobody that loves animals can be all bad. Better yet nobody that an animal love can be all bad. I have had cats and dogs all my life. I cannot imagine walking through my door and not having some one there who is soooo happy to see me. I never got that from my ex. I have 2 cats for now Sugar and her half sister, 2years younger,Hunny. They have been here for me through all the lonely nights , the loss of my precious mother{I got Hunny for her,she had alzhiemers,Hunny was her baby}all the days I was not stromg enough to face on my own. They gave me a reason to wake up in the morning. Hunny still jumps up un the bed every morning, touches my cheek with he paw. If I don t respond she touches my eyelids and licks my nose untill I get up to freed my girls. I love dogs too. I had 3 of them when my ex and I had the farm house. One thing I learned Dogs are unconditional love if you treat them right. A cats love you have to earn.Any man that wants to love me had better love my cats, because if it comes down to a choice. Good bye Guy! | |

Posted: 11/10/2008 12:48:27 PM | Thank you Moraima, for your great work and kindness with dogs...So good to hear there are folks like you who appreciate our "furry angels," and how they enhance and add so much to our lives. Also, I hope we all add a lot to theirs.. Well, we can tell you do... The story of Titan was heart warming.. They ask so little and give so much... Thanks again!!

| People, of our age, alone...what do our pets say about us? Posted: 11/10/2008 10:23:23 PM | I've thought for a long time that dogs are like four year olds, and cats are like teenagers. . . . I like both, but on the whole fine it easier to live with cats, but easier to actually love dogs. There have been exceptions, lol!

Posted: 11/11/2008 9:55:31 AM | easier to live with cats, but easier to actually love dogs On the surface, I would probably agree with that. However, since my dog has been gone, 8 years now, the cat and I have gotten very close and lived through many 'adventures.' He's a grumpy old man now, but as he ages, he becomes more affectionate and loving all the time. It's pretty easy to love a little guy who meets me at the door every evening when I get home, insists on cuddling and rubs his head on my neck to let me know he's there. Not the same as a man, for sure, but loveable nontheless.
There have been exceptions. Guess if there are exceptions, he's one of them.

| People, of our age, alone...what do our pets say about us? Posted: 11/11/2008 5:06:55 PM | | I have two spoiled rotten dogs who think they are human. Folks would say I am neurotic about them. I cook for them, they have their own leather recliners, and my house is one big doghouse that they let me live in. When I do have to go out of town, I board them in a high dollar doggy dude ranch with cribs for beds, classical music at night, group play time ALL day, and webcam so I can spy on them from wherever I am at. The dude ranch offers valet service for me to and from the airport. What my pets say about me, is this is how I take care of my loved ones and that I am unselfish. I don't care if people call me neurotic or crazy dog lady. I DONT CARE. The breed of my dogs doesn't accurately reflect my personality-I have a pug and boston terrier. Most of my married life I had hunting dogs/bird dogs/gun-dogs/hog-dogs e.g. treeing walker coon hounds, catahoula (louisiana cur dog), chocolate labs, blue heelers, australian shepherds etc. Those reflect my personality-outdoorsy/country. But during my single years, I have required more attentive "lapdog" breeds. If my dogs are considered by a man as "cramping" our lifestyle, I say, "there's the door, don't let it hit ya where the good Lord split ya". | |

| People, of our age, alone...what do our pets say about us? Posted: 11/12/2008 9:33:09 PM | I'm back again...I'm the one who started this thread, under a different name. That was several POF lifetimes ago.
I still have my "Snort", ...over ten years old, and still going strong. A lot has happened since I started this thread, but Snort and I have weathered the storms. He's a little grayer around the muzzle now...I'm a lot balder now... Snort has stood in for the local Marine Corps League's mascot bulldog. Unfortunately that pup died of a massive heart attack during a thunderstorm, at a little over two years old. Bulldogs do not do well in T-storms. Snort would gladly take on the responsibility of being their mascot, but at his age, I don't think so. Most USMC mascot bulldogs are retired at five years old. Average lifespan of a bulldog..about 8 - 10 years, because of the health problems of their "design".
Referring to Miss Acurn's post... she said; "I board them in a high dollar doggy dude ranch with cribs for beds, classical music at night, group play time ALL day, and webcam so I can spy on them from wherever I am at. The dude ranch offers valet service for me to and from the airport"... I'm not able to provide that for Snort when I need to be away, but he stays with his vet. There are some absolutely wonderful young ladies who work there, and they just spoil the heck outta him! I have to argue with him to get him to come home. Quite often, when I pick him up and the Dr is not in (office hours not open) I'll find they let him have the run of the office. Might have something to do with the fact the vet is a Marine, maybe?
Anyway, just checking in...I love seeing this old thread of mine still alive...and; CDN...say hi to that mule for me. A

| People, of our age, alone...what do our pets say about us? Posted: 11/13/2008 10:46:37 AM | My 2 dogs and one fat cat say I am the best mother in the world to them. lol
The fat cat was an elderly residents whom I was caring for and she passed away. Her son asked if someone would take her cat.. So, of course I did. The cat is old and I have had him 3 years and he's still going strong.... or should I say waddling.
I have 2 dogs, a schz-poodle mix and a chi-pom. They are a blessing to me, and keep me on my toes!

| People, of our age, alone...what do our pets say about us? Posted: 11/13/2008 11:29:45 AM | Good to see Miss Ageless Wonder again!
After reading all of this, I think my bulldog does indeed say things about my personality. Laid back, quiet, friendly...not the prettiest, and pretty much non-aggressive. Unless provoked. Then the tenacity come into play. I have nothing against cats...with the mice around this place, I could probably use a couple, but I can't see myself with a cat. Oh, I've met some really nice cats in my life, but they (just in my experience) don't show the absolute unquestioning love that you get from a dog. That was my intention with this thread.

| People, of our age, alone...what do our pets say about us? Posted: 11/13/2008 11:53:53 AM | | My 'tiel would say that I spoil the man in my life and that you had best be worthy of me because he will be watching. He has been known to dive bomb gentleman callers who have gotten to close to me, but this is why God made cages. | |
